she places the plate full of scrambled eggs in front of him. They sit silently for a few minutes, watching each other, and Goldberg is surprised to discover that she is the first person he has talked to since waking up this morning. The following day, Goldberg arrives early to class before his lecture starts. His eyes land on Gold’s table immediately and he feels instantly drawn to it. Goldberg walks slowly past the row of chairs, admiring Gold’s face for a few moments before sitting down next to him. Before leaving his apartment the previous day, Goldberg had decided that he couldn’t sleep anymore – too nervous about meeting his mother and about what she was going to do once she learns about the conversation he had had with her the night before. So, he decides that he should sit in the room and wait until he’s certain that his mom is nowhere near before walking back to his flat, just to be on the safe side. Now, he feels a little bit relieved that everything turned out alright – although, of course, there’s always the possibility that his mother wouldn’t react well to the news and will end up calling the police. As soon as Rachel closes her eyes, the first image she sees is Mr. Gold sitting on her bedroom floor, holding her hand while they watch Romeo & Juliet together. Rachel feels her heart melt at the memory and her thoughts drift back to when she was younger; he held her hand during every performance he was giving. He always asked her if he should change his pose during a particular scene just to match her response of yes or no depending on what emotion she had experienced during the previous act. He often joked about how it was better if he could see her face during those moments because her expression was so expressive. Sometimes, he teased her because he knew that she would blurt out an immediate “no” every single time. However, after he saw the way her lips curved up as if she wanted to smile, he decided to tease her more. Even though he was just teasing her, Rachel was thankful because he reminded her of his presence and she couldn’t deny that she enjoyed the closeness they shared.

Maybe she wasn’t new though. David had been hearing a lot of rumors and theories about her, although none of them sounded as outlandish as the one his father had told him the other night. He doesn’t remember which ones had come about. However, he knows for sure that they weren’t true, as the girl was smiling at him and he remembered her smiling face. Goldberg stands directly at the old rusty gate while breathing naturally but trying to suppress the fear inside of him, the smell of rotting bodies, blood, and burnt flesh, makes him feel uncomfortable, he feels like vomiting.When he finally manages to breathe properly after a few minutes he takes his keys out and unlocks the rusty gate.
