Reality television shows have birthdays on because they can be entertaining. Twenty-One is the age you are truly considered an adult in the United States. The age when you can legally drink and the age when most people have graduated from college, but my 21st birthday was something utterly different.
Waking up to a flashlight being shined in your eyes is a terrible way to avoid headaches. Some woman was shining a light in one eye and a man shining one in the other. McCoy was holding smelling salts in his hand in front of me under my nose.
Swatting his hands away, “That’s enough!” swatting away everyone with lights. “Can you please get the fuck out of my face!” my hand was up holding my head which was throbbing with pain.&nb
Watching boxing or mixed martial arts was always fun. I am not sure if I ever could get in the ring and try to fight with someone in that way. It always seemed too brutal and I would have been afraid that with all the adrenaline and emotion I would not be able to stop. Sitting Indian style in my little room with my keepers behind the wall sized mirrors watching me, I felt at ease knowing the time was close for me to leave this place. A plate of food was sitting on the desk next to the bed. Not a single bite had been touched. Something was coming and I could feel it near. Food would only upset my stomach more. Looking around for any sign, my focus was on the mirror in front of me. It would be about a month before leaving th
At one time I dated this girl that use to make fun of me whenever I said I was positive about anything. She used to say it was not good to be positive because something could always change. I found out that she was right. Breathing frantically and with sweat pouring down my face, nothing around me seemed familiar. Splitting myself constantly, it was becoming more difficult to figure out which me was where. Confusion was setting into my unconscious mind at night when while sleeping. Between that and all the half real dreams in strange places, it seemed like I was never in the same place twice. Baal had been in my dream this time, or nightmare, trying to come through the glass as he had done just a few hours before. Not wearing a
Watching an episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ when I was in college, I wondered about time. Time was a strange thing we knew almost nothing about. Standing in the hallway without any sound or light, a pin dot sized light come from the end of the hallway. Heading toward the light I passed the interrogation room and then the board room. With the light still growing in size my body kept heading toward it. Stopped and leaning against the wall, there was no recollection of the building ever being that long. Focusing on the lights being on, light blared into the hallway with enough force to blind me for a moment. I thought I was looking down the hallway, but there was nothing
Expectations of life in the mind of every child leave anything to the imagination to become reality. When you are older those expectations change and reality of life starts to beat down imagination. In the end those who can keep more of their imagination are the ones that end up as the minority and seem odd to the rest of the world. Sitting down next to Delilah, the server poured wine for the table. Around the room there were some nervous faces and one that was stone cold as ever. “So, General, I am sure you want to begin your questions,” picking up my glass. “Almost a month ago I did say I would tell you what you wanted to know over the last ten years. Now is your opportunity, but remember something,” taking a sip of wine, “there are
Life is a crazy and bizarre thing to behold and even more strange to actually live out. My own life has been more interesting than most. Time, and a lot of it, has been spent on trying to understand why this all happened to me. Finally, I realized there was no point in asking that question. The purpose of me having these abilities is much more important and even if I did find out why I was like this, I could not go back and change it. Matt and Bob are running all the business, now. To be honest, I would shut them all down if it was not for the fact they employed a large number of people and I do not want to make them all jobless. The family is all looking over their shoulders and either seeing the government following them aroun
I’ve been sitting in a concrete, steel reinforced room with three two-way mirrors and a twelve inch thick titanium door since the turn of the Millennium. My prison has 238 digital micro cameras that let my keepers watch and record every single movement I make. Well, every movement the cameras are able to see and record. Truth be told, the normal human eye has no chance of ever catching my every gesture. You see, there is an unbelievable world under the everyday façade that you wander around in. That’s my world, the one you are oblivious to. Not that the world you are living in now isn’t the real world. By all means, it is. Your world is the only reason mine exists. My 21st birthday was the pinnacle. By pinnacle I mean just how self-aware I came to just how different I was from everyone else. Brutally, the world was flipped upside down and has never been nor will it ever be the same again. Not for me and a few others, that is.
“Michael,” a voice said softly breathing heavy breath with a delicate whisper into my ear. “Michael, don’t you have a meeting?” My eyelids tried to unglue themselves and pop open. Where is here? What was that fluttering sound? Whose voice was that whispering in my ear? Turning my head to see the pale off white skin and pinkish cheeks of a blonde woman I couldn’t remember the name of. My mind was racing to come up with a name. “Sharon? No. Sara? No.” It was too early to try and remember names. “What, baby?” slyly. Of course it was smooth enough not to be noticed and went over fine. She looked at me with soft eyes telling me she had just woke up. “Don’t you have a meeting?” “Yeah,” looking at the window of blinds behind her. The sun was a bit of a pinkish orange with a hint of yellow reflecting onto the ceiling. At that moment I knew what time it was. “Let’s see. It’s 7:13, right?”
Bars had always been a fun place for me. Little did I know that someone in the bar that night was not my friend. Just watching me from the other side of the room as closely as they could. Of course, I was oblivious. “Michael!” My best friend in the world, Matt Hickson, was throwing me a birthday celebration at one of my favorite sports bars, Riled. “Get over here and take a shot, mate!” He yelled when he drank too much. The entire bar was aware of him that night. Matt worked for me. How could I not hire my best friend? He was the only one that actually tried to be my friend in college. I was the genius prodigy and he was the imported British guy. It worked for us. We were inseparable from the first pint together and the first shot of Tequila just sealed the deal. Jimmy, the owner of Riled, didn’t care that I was under 21. No one thought of me as a kid. They all saw me as the guy that owned a few successful companies an

Emptiness was never a blank void without form to me. I always saw emptiness as a hole in my heart that seemed to be un-fill-able or just missing something that needed to be there in order to feel whole. I had a chance to see both. A black smoke was covering my vision and distorting my orientation to the ground. My feet were not on anything, it felt like direction depravation no knowing which way was up. Air was all around me, yet I wasn’t falling. Waving my hand to get rid of the smoke, it moved enough to see that darkness surrounded me. Suddenly, my knees touched what felt like sand. A white light shown above me and I looked up to see Baal floating down and landing on the black sand I was kneeling in.
Always thinking to myself, why prolong the inevitable? If it was going to happen anyway then there was no reason to postpone it. That would just end up being a waste of time. “Yes, Bob,” my irritation level was well beyond the point of frustration. “I do understand what you are saying, but you’re not hearing me. This is just how it has to be. It happens no matter what we do.” “That’s the part I don’t understand,” Bob yelled out. “Yeah, mate. This is all getting ridiculous!” Matt had his say as well. “Look,” trying to be calm to keep them calm, “they have someone that is
Movies had always fascinated me as a child and as an adult. One of the many things that makes a human stand out, on this planet, is the unbound imagination. Maybe something couldn’t physically exist, but there was a way for someone to figure out how to make it exist in people’s minds. Six months had passed since my 21st birthday. It didn’t really seem like that long sometimes and other times it felt much longer. The first month or so, after that night, was spent in what seemed to be a coma for everyone else. For me it was in another bizarre world deep within my own mind. What was a month for everyone else was actually a few months for me. Spent trying to find my way out. My keepers had spent a lot of time testing me for everything imaginable. The best were the psychological evaluations I’d been subjected to every other day. I did t
