In comparison to everyone else’s life, mine has been bizarre. I’ve always done things a little different and really just felt my way through life. If something felt right or I felt like something was trying to tell me to do something I just went with it. I made money and did some things with it other people might not have thought of or even thought was realistic.

The black limo filled with Matt and the girls pulled to a stop in the underground garage on my 20th birthday. The ’10 Car Monty’, as it came to be known, worked. Well enough to get us away from whoever was chasing us. Riled, the sport’s bar was fun but the chase seemed even more fun for everyone, except me.

Matt looked at the girls as the opaque glass became see through again. He opened the door and hopped out of the limo. The girls followed him out and I just sat there for a moment. My mind was still preoccupied with who it was that followed us. It was the tactical boots that we

It’s funny how people will make what seems like a meaningless decision that turns into a stupid one. Seeing it over and over again in my life, people have a tendency to overlook the things that they think are mundane or small. I’ve been guilty of that so many times in the past. Standing in the snow covered hills of Vale, Colorado, I was starting to feel a little dumb for not grabbing my ski jacket instead of just the normal day to day rain Columbia I threw on as I rushed out the….window. Well, that was a strange set of events to begin with. The tactical boots were a good idea. They were woodstove warm and keeping my feet bone dry. Of course that’s what they are meant to do so, it makes sense. Even in the freezing snow. When I slipped them on all I was thinking about was they could handle any climate. With those boots, I really would have felt dumb if I’d chosen the Florida Keys with its hot dry sand. There was only one goal to

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   A Sitting Room Isn’t Just For Sitting

Nine years had passed while I sat in a small concrete room. They were good enough to give me a box-less bed and a metal chair and desk. No doubt they were waiting for something to happen and they either wanted me to be bored while we waited or they thought it would happen fast. Everyday of the last nine years, since right before my 21st birthday, had been spent in my room. Locked away from the world, but never locked out of my own mind. Day after day I escaped deep inside my mind learning every detail of this bizarre ability I had and learning how to use it consistently. Still, I was always aware they were behind the glass. Some of the learning had to take place outside my head just by the very nature of what it was. The majority, though, could be learned inside my ever expanding mind where I didn’t have the mirrors. The very first thing I taught myself was how to be in two different places at once. Each time I had done it before

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   Cash, It’s What’s For Dinner

Food has never been something I thought a lot about. Maybe it’s because I spent so little time between family dinners and posh restaurants. By the time I was sixteen I had my first college degree, though I didn’t graduate until I was seventeen with my masters in hand which I had setup that way. Before I was fifteen I had a company setup in my Dad’s name and was running it through him. I never really wanted for money so I always ate the same way, just enough for my stomach not to complain. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved food. Pulling up to the curb, I could see a sign that read ‘Mastro’s Steakhouse’. We were somewhere in Beverly Hills. Just a wild guess, but I figured this would be Bob’s choice. They had fantastic steak and I had been several times and at least once every trip to Los Angeles. I glanced over at Bob with a wide grin on my face. He looked down as to say “What”. “There goes getting out of my suit,” I chuckled and let my

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   Not All Darkness is in the Shadows

Rain could always be a soothing experience for me. Tiny round droplets of cold water falling from the sky, crashing into whatever got in its way, to make a sound easing the tension. I could always count on the rain to put my pulse and my racing mind back in check. Spring in New York always had the potential to let loose the rain. That day it happened to be raining as I looked out my hotel room window to the street below. An ever moving and never sleep city that didn’t care the tiniest little bit about the water falling from the sky. I was in New York for business and a little bit more. Paranoia was starting to creep in and I wanted to start setting up some things that I could use later. I was buying some property while I was in town trying to show the board of one of my companies a new technology we were going to produce. Both Matt and Bob had made the trip and had lists of things I’d given them to do. Bob also wanted to check w

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   10 Million Ways to Get Caught, Choose One

There has never been a sound more smoothing to me than the sound of the ocean crashing up onto a shore. Maybe that’s why I’ve dreamed about it so much in my life. It never really leaves my mind even when I’m not close to it. I was sitting Indian style on the beach in a pair of shorts and nothing else. My eyes closed and the rest of the world nowhere around me. The sand was like sitting on the most comfortable cushion every imagined. Waves broke and crashed all around me as I sat in my own solitude. Opening my eyes I could see the rolling waves as the sun came up over the ocean ever so slightly. No master would ever be able to capture such a beautiful sight no matter how hard they tried to paint it. In slow motion I turned around and saw nothing but a small patch of sand and more ocean. My heart started to race and my breath became short as I spun around and could only see the sun over the ocean no matter which direction I looke

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   All the World Is A Stage, Sometimes

In school I loved to act. It was a side passion to be in front of people as they watched you intently bring something to life. Anything that had to do with Shakespeare or Broadway was always something to get me exited to do. Even though I ended up in the logical world for my profession, my love for the performing arts had never died. Street lights passed over and over, more and more slowly, as my left eye opened. The car I was in started to come to a stop and was turning left. Opening the other eye I started to sit up when I realized my jaw was in excruciating pain. Yelling out in pain my left hand went to my jaw. “Ouch! Shit!” Bob looked back from the driver’s seat. “What the hell happened? I feel like I got nailed in the face with a sledge hammer.” “Yeah, well, that hammer was my fist.” He laughed a bit at the thought. “I had to knock your ass out!” I was trying to remember everything that had happened. It

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   Blue Eyes Are Better Than None

Not just any blue, but the crystal blue that is almost see through and has a hypnotizing effect. I’ve always been a sucker for a woman with a set of eyes like those. Saying I’ve been bewitched by them several times would be the best way to describe it, almost as if I was destined to find one pair in particular. Across from the bar Riled was an alley. Normally, an Aston Martin would be noticeable anywhere it went. In a black Aston Martin in the shadows of an alley, it was almost invisible with the darkness engulfing it. Watching the front door, I waited for the girl with the blue eyes to walk out. Through the moving foot traffic inside the bar I could catch glimpses of her sitting with the people I had left her with earlier that night. She was staring off over the shoulder of her friends whenever she wasn’t being talked to and my imagination kept picturing her in deep intelligent thought. Sliding in a CD of mixed classical music

  • SE7EN: Transcendence   What Dreams May Come And Go

Vivid sparkling dreams of fantastic creatures, both good and bad, have plagued me since I could remember. Every dream was so real and detailed I could wake up screaming or smiling depending on which way that day and night had gone. The doctor’s always said I just had an overactive imagination. Water. Water was trickling down my face. All I could see was pitch black darkness. I wasn’t sure where the water was coming from, but it was all over me. Had I just got out of the shower or a pool or a sauna, I kept asking myself. Wiggling my fingers I opened my eye a little at a time, blinking to let my vision clear. It could have been morning with all the light coming through. Clearing, my vision returned and I saw Bob, Remy and Alley over me. Bob had an empty water glass in his hand and was slapping my face trying to get me to respond. I grabbed his arm. “You can stop now.” He put his hand down. “Oh, sorry

Life is a crazy and bizarre thing to behold and even more strange to actually live out. My own life has been more interesting than most. Time, and a lot of it, has been spent on trying to understand why this all happened to me. Finally, I realized there was no point in asking that question. The purpose of me having these abilities is much more important and even if I did find out why I was like this, I could not go back and change it. Matt and Bob are running all the business, now. To be honest, I would shut them all down if it was not for the fact they employed a large number of people and I do not want to make them all jobless. The family is all looking over their shoulders and either seeing the government following them aroun

    Knowing is Half the Battle

Expectations of life in the mind of every child leave anything to the imagination to become reality. When you are older those expectations change and reality of life starts to beat down imagination. In the end those who can keep more of their imagination are the ones that end up as the minority and seem odd to the rest of the world. Sitting down next to Delilah, the server poured wine for the table. Around the room there were some nervous faces and one that was stone cold as ever. “So, General, I am sure you want to begin your questions,” picking up my glass. “Almost a month ago I did say I would tell you what you wanted to know over the last ten years. Now is your opportunity, but remember something,” taking a sip of wine, “there are

Time Is On My Side, Yes It Is

Watching an episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ when I was in college, I wondered about time. Time was a strange thing we knew almost nothing about. Standing in the hallway without any sound or light, a pin dot sized light come from the end of the hallway. Heading toward the light I passed the interrogation room and then the board room. With the light still growing in size my body kept heading toward it. Stopped and leaning against the wall, there was no recollection of the building ever being that long. Focusing on the lights being on, light blared into the hallway with enough force to blind me for a moment. I thought I was looking down the hallway, but there was nothing

    I’m Positive, Maybe

At one time I dated this girl that use to make fun of me whenever I said I was positive about anything. She used to say it was not good to be positive because something could always change. I found out that she was right. Breathing frantically and with sweat pouring down my face, nothing around me seemed familiar. Splitting myself constantly, it was becoming more difficult to figure out which me was where. Confusion was setting into my unconscious mind at night when while sleeping. Between that and all the half real dreams in strange places, it seemed like I was never in the same place twice. Baal had been in my dream this time, or nightmare, trying to come through the glass as he had done just a few hours before. Not wearing a

Float Like a Butterfly and Sting Like a (Insert Noun)

Watching boxing or mixed martial arts was always fun. I am not sure if I ever could get in the ring and try to fight with someone in that way. It always seemed too brutal and I would have been afraid that with all the adrenaline and emotion I would not be able to stop. Sitting Indian style in my little room with my keepers behind the wall sized mirrors watching me, I felt at ease knowing the time was close for me to leave this place. A plate of food was sitting on the desk next to the bed. Not a single bite had been touched. Something was coming and I could feel it near. Food would only upset my stomach more. Looking around for any sign, my focus was on the mirror in front of me. It would be about a month before leaving th

    How to Become a Vox

Reality television shows have birthdays on because they can be entertaining. Twenty-One is the age you are truly considered an adult in the United States. The age when you can legally drink and the age when most people have graduated from college, but my 21st birthday was something utterly different. Waking up to a flashlight being shined in your eyes is a terrible way to avoid headaches. Some woman was shining a light in one eye and a man shining one in the other. McCoy was holding smelling salts in his hand in front of me under my nose. Swatting his hands away, “That’s enough!” swatting away everyone with lights. “Can you please get the fuck out of my face!” my hand was up holding my head which was throbbing with pain.&nb

Oh, It’s What You Do To Me

Emptiness was never a blank void without form to me. I always saw emptiness as a hole in my heart that seemed to be un-fill-able or just missing something that needed to be there in order to feel whole. I had a chance to see both. A black smoke was covering my vision and distorting my orientation to the ground. My feet were not on anything, it felt like direction depravation no knowing which way was up. Air was all around me, yet I wasn’t falling. Waving my hand to get rid of the smoke, it moved enough to see that darkness surrounded me. Suddenly, my knees touched what felt like sand. A white light shown above me and I looked up to see Baal floating down and landing on the black sand I was kneeling in.

To Be or Not To Be, Caught

Always thinking to myself, why prolong the inevitable? If it was going to happen anyway then there was no reason to postpone it. That would just end up being a waste of time. “Yes, Bob,” my irritation level was well beyond the point of frustration. “I do understand what you are saying, but you’re not hearing me. This is just how it has to be. It happens no matter what we do.” “That’s the part I don’t understand,” Bob yelled out. “Yeah, mate. This is all getting ridiculous!” Matt had his say as well. “Look,” trying to be calm to keep them calm, “they have someone that is

If I Could Be In Two Places At Once, Oh Wait, I Can

Movies had always fascinated me as a child and as an adult. One of the many things that makes a human stand out, on this planet, is the unbound imagination. Maybe something couldn’t physically exist, but there was a way for someone to figure out how to make it exist in people’s minds. Six months had passed since my 21st birthday. It didn’t really seem like that long sometimes and other times it felt much longer. The first month or so, after that night, was spent in what seemed to be a coma for everyone else. For me it was in another bizarre world deep within my own mind. What was a month for everyone else was actually a few months for me. Spent trying to find my way out. My keepers had spent a lot of time testing me for everything imaginable. The best were the psychological evaluations I’d been subjected to every other day. I did t
