Caught in traffic, Seth sat in his car waiting to get through traffic, when a call came into his phone.

"Hello," Seth said into the phone.

"Am I speaking with Mr. Seth Rivera?" The deep, manly voice asked over the phone.

"Yes, you are" Seth replied, looking at the caller ID again, and realizing he did not recognize the caller.

"That's great. It is great that I was able to finally get a hold of you. This is the First Aide to the President of the United States."

"Your  Company, Chroma Creatives, came up as one of the top three Creative Companies in the United States, and the President would like to host you in his home this afternoon." The man said.

"Oh, wow, that is great Sir, I am honored. Although, I never heard of the event before." Seth said honestly.

"We have been trying to get a hold of Chroma Creatives for so long. But we were told it was no longer under your leadership. The investment you made seven years ago has

Are you trying to tell me that you lost the deal?" She said in a tone that was laced with venom. "I ..I did not lose the deal per say Grandmother. I am not the one who was handling the deal in the first place, okay?" Aidan responded to her. "Aidan, I paid thirty million dollars to get that a lot, and now you are telling me that some riff raff I rejected as my son in law got the slot??? How is that even possible?!" Grand ma Patterson stamped her staff on the carpeted floor in anger. "I do not know, grandmother. I will get to the root of this nonetheless. "Let me see your hands! Don't take another step towards the car." The rough masculine voice said behind Seth. It was the day of the Presidential convening, for the discussion of the President's business olanz and what he intended to do for the youths. Seth had gotten the deal, and it was important for him to be there. On his way out of Chroma Creatives building, he was accepted by two men at the garage, which was void of people and dimly lit. "Who sent you?!" Seth asked them, but they did not respond. They were both hefty, and one of them punched Seth across the face. While the other one stabbed his knife into all his tires, causing all the air to escape. "Shit" Seth groaned silently. The person who held the knife, pinned the tip to his back, and Seth could feel the sharp edge piercing through his suit jacket. "You are coming with us, buddy." The man said and pushed Seth towards the black van they had stepped out of. Seth quietly followed them, their faces were covered a

"You mean Seth Rivera bought Nova? My my my, my days." Gem, Phoebe's friend gushed. They had come over to Seth's house to see Phoebe, who had woken up that morning to find that she was on her period and had crams. "What are you going to do about cooking today? Surely, he does not expect you to do all the housework while you are in pains." Melanie asked. Phoebe merely shook her head at them and shrugged her shoulders. The doorbell rang through out the house from outside. A classic tune, specifically, Beethoven. The Butler, who Seth had recently hired to run the little house errands went and handled it. They heard the door open and shut. "Who could that be? Are you expecting guests?" Melanie asked Phoebe, but she shook her head gently. "I see. Then who could it be? " Gem asked. A beautiful young lady walked into the house. She was dressed in turquoise skirt which showed off long, slender legs, and an off shoulder, white top. Her sandal heels glimmered as she walked into the

Grand ma Patterson had girsts over at the mansion. She usually did that in preparation for the annual Memorial ceremony she normally had for her late husband. "I believe these patterns would look lovely on the new interiors. How soon until your second grand daughter walks down the aisle?" Mrs Yvette asked. She was a long time friend and event planner for the Patterson family. "Oh darling Gloria just wants to take her time. You know, to avoid making the same mistakes her sister did. We have downed enough shame to last us a lifetime already." Grandma Patterson replied. The hot, sultry afternoon air blew at them, as they sat in Grandma Patterson's beautiful, plush garden. "Oh, about that though. I hear the man is rich now. Do you know how that happened? Some people say he has pure luck, while others say you saved him a fortune and probably gave him some connections to the wealth he's acquired and others assume he is into drugs." Mrs Yvette said to her. "Speculations, speculations. D

Seth had already instructed his driver to take a lunch pack to Phoebe's office. He knew she would still be having a bit of crams, and would not like to go out to eat. So, he prepared ahead of her, and ordered lunch from her favorite spot, Kentucky's. His driver into her Secretary's office held the food pack in his right hand, while he swung his car keys from his other hand. "I want to see Mrs Rivera. I have a delivery pack for her, courtesy of Mr. Rivera." He said to her Secretary. "Let him in." Phoebe said when her Secretary called to confirm whether or not to let him in. "What is it?" She asked when he placed the pack on her table. "Mr. Rivera thought you would not go out for lunch, so, he sent me to bring this to you. He said he would rather you do not stress too much, or go on an hungry stomach through out the day." Seth's driver explained to her. The garden sprung with life as the bright lights came on, lighting up the evening sky. The red china lamps had been set up on the tents which had been set up for the D-jay, and the food and drinks. "This is so beautiful, and modern if you ask me, Mrs Patterson." Mrs Yvette, the event planner for the Patterson said in complacency regarding her own work. Grandma Patterson was dressed in a white lace, that bundled around her ankle, and had ruffled hands. Her white hair had been curled and styled in a braid which she pinned behind her head, and a beautiful flower Garland sat on her head, as it did on the heads of nearly everyone. "Yes, a garden celebration was a much more appropriate venue. I almost feel like I can inhale his presence in the wind, amongst the flowers." Grandma Patterson replied wiping a tear drop from her eye. "He is smiling down at you from wherever he is." Mrs Yvette said. Just then, Phoebe and Seth walked in. Seth wore a plain white shirt, which was open a few bu

He walked up to Grandma Patterson, and paid her his respects. It was not until he was done talking to Grandma Patterson that everyone who had noticed his entrance realised that the big box he held in his hands was not for grandma Patterson. Seth watched with intrigued eyes, as Marlin Murray walked up to where he stood beside Phoebe. She had been saying something to him, but, he was no longer listening. "Seth...Seth, do you..." She paused, turning to notice Marlin Murray standing in front of her bearing the black box in his hands. " Hello Phoebe, " he said to her. "Hello." "Wow, anyway, that serves him right. I honestly think you should give Marlin a chance. I mean if we are being honest, he is way better than that Rivera of a man. "What Regret"

“Regret,” she said with a sneer. Regret is just a euphemism for guilt. It doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t wipe the slate clean, and it definitely does not heal the mess that you made.‘Christian,’ she said softly, ‘don’t come any closer.’ He stopped, as she decided to step back from him.Phoebe flared up again and asked him: “You said you came for the truth?” “Fine. Here’s the truth, Christian. I loved you. With everything I had. And you destroyed me. You were able to make me question myself in ways that I never knew existed. And now you stand here, asking me for what? Closure? Redemption? Forgiveness?”“No,” he said firmly. All I am demanding is an opportunity to prove that I can improve.” That I am better.”She scoffed. “And you believe that one conversation is going to make a difference?” You think I can just what? Stare at you and forget the years I struggled to climb up the ladder and get a life again?“No,” he repeated again, and there was no quiver in his voice. “But I can’t

Christian did not answer this for a while. He looked down, his hands were tightly bunched into fists at his sides. “I know it caused pain,” he said, his voice rising in a hoarse whisper. “I know I can’t undo that. But I can’t just let things be this way. Not anymore. If that means living with your hatred then let it be so.Phoebe only chuckled bitterly and began to pace in front of the fire. ‘Christian, you keep saying all the right things.’ Saying sorry, admitting my mistake, promising to take my anger on myself. But you don’t seem to understand. It’s not about you. Not anymore.”He stared at her with a frown on his face. “Then what is it about?”“It’s about me,” she said angrily, turning to him. ‘That’s about the years I’ve spent struggling to climb out of the pit you dug for me to fall into.’ It is about finding out how to be independent, how to live without the feeling that my chest is going to collapse. It’s about healing, or at least, about trying to put myself back together aft

Phoebe shook her head, her arms wrapped around herself. “You don’t get it, Christian. Other people also had the same feeling as you; they were scared. I was terrified too. Of losing you, of not being good enough. But I stayed. I fought. And you didn’t.”“I know,” he said and his eyes welled up with tears. “And I hate myself for that. I wish I could have been stronger and did not leave when I did. But I’m here now, Phoebe. And I’m not running this time.”She glared at him and her eyes were red with rage, hurt and something else which she could not describe. “You say that now,” she whispered. But what happens when things get hard again? This begs the question, what happens when the cracks start to show?“They won’t,” he said firmly. “Because I’ve come to realize that running in particular does not solve anything. It just leaves a trail of broken pieces behind.”Phoebe only shook her head and a tear rolled down her face. She gently removed it as if she was embarrassed to show her weaknes

    “I’m confused”

It’s convenient. You were waiting until you felt I was ready and powerful enough to take the news. Until you thought I didn’t need you anymore.”“That is not true,” Christian said quickly, getting up, his voice a high pitched note. “I have been taking this guilt with me every day since I left.” I did not return because of convenience. I returned because I could not continue living such a life knowing that I destroyed something that was wonderful.Phoebe whirled on her toes, glaring. “And what about me? Have you ever thought what it feels like to wake up every day with the marks you have made on others? To have to break yourself down and begin to build yourself up again from scratch just to have the one who was responsible for tearing you down appear with an apology?”“I do now,” he said quietly. “Because I do, I see it in your eyes. I hear it in your voice. And I hate myself for being the reason it’s there.”She was breathing raggedly, her hands were balled up at her sides. “You don’t

Christian sighed deeply and rested his hands on the table. “I am a man who wants to know how to accept what I have done. To challenge it, rather than avoiding it. To be able to admit that I can change the future but I can’t change the present and I can’t change the past.”Phoebe scoffed. ‘You really believe that taking responsibility is sufficient?’ You really believe that saying you were wrong in any of this makes it alright?”“No,” Christian said quickly. “It doesn’t make it okay. Nothing can make it okay. But it’s a start, isn’t it? A step toward being better. Towards becoming a person who does not destroy things.”Phoebe looked at her sister with her face impassive and then shook her head. “You want to be better? Good for you. But you don’t get to use me as your redemption arc. I am not some check-point on your way to self-improvement.”“I’m not asking you to be,” Christian said, his voice quiet, but commanding. Phoebe went back to the fire, her hands folding over her chest. For what seemed like a long time she did not respond. The fire crackled in the background, and its heat was the only thing that made the atmosphere between them warm.“What do you want from me, Christian?” she asked after a long time her voice was so low that it was barely audible.“Nothing,” he said quickly. “I don’t want anything from you. “Sorry isn’t enough,” said Phoebe, tears rolling down her cheeks. “They think they can just come out and apologize and that’s the end of it.”“I’m not expecting that,” Christian said quickly. I had to stop bringing this with me without doing something about it.”Phoebe exhaled hard and then rested her weight against the windowsill. “Well, did you even know what you left behind?” “How much I had to tidy up after you?”“I’ve thought about it,” Christian said, softly. “But I know that thinking about it isn’t the same as living it. I still can’t fathom how difficult it must have been for you.”Phoebe looked at her and shook her head, fuming again. “And you didn’t just hurt me, Christian.” You made me doubt, everything, including us, including myself.
