The silver armoured knight with his loud and smoky voice, addressed the people once more, “Have you all lost your heads!? You stand before a prince of the royal family!”
The knight concluded with a loud stomp on the wooden platform, “Do you all wish to have your heads on a pike for treason!!?”After hearing him out, the people's attitude changed from disapproval to respect at that moment. However, once the noise had subsided the honourable knight's words were rebutted by another knight to my left. The knight had a soft yet egotistical voice and spoke like a noble, “And why should they not lose their heads!? These... 'commonfolk' just received a royal decree spelling their demise...!"He walked to the other side of the platform, facing the people as if he was addressing them and not the knight, and he continued, saying, "Why should they not panic? These PEOPLE have been handed with unjust cause to the infamous Incompetent Prince!”The knight stood tall after his short speech, he was just as tall and burly as the silver-armoured knight. He was clad in full golden armour; a golden breastplate, golden gauntlets, golden polyenes, and even golden sabatons, all except for a helmet. He also had a golden sword with a sheath on his waist. Apart from his golden armour, he had a handsome face, fair skin, green eyes and red hair and a goatee.I hadn't noticed him on the stage before, which meant that he must have just arrived in the state today and must have waited to ambush the announcement.“This was a set-up,” I thought. But I wasn't sure who and why? Could have been the nobles of the town, the former lord, or...?“It seems you came from the capital, Sir Knight,” I called out to the golden knight, noticing the crest of Gladia on his breastplate – a flaming sword. The golden knight kneels gracefully before me, almost mocking me with his knightly etiquette, then says, “Ah... My apologies, your highness! Forgive my late introductions. This humble knight's name is Sir Cassian The 3rd. I am at your service, my liege.”I hunched forward, squinted my eyes, adjusted my glasses just a bit to get a better look at him, and then I crossed my fingers over my lips before speaking.“I see... You may rise, Sir Caspian!” I taunted him a bit by intentionally mispronouncing his name.He stood up, trying to correct my pronunciation of his name, “It pronounces ‘Cassian’, your highness.” His reaction to the taunt put a lovely smirk on my face. I didn't think he would actually fall for such a childish taunt.“I just stated it, Sir Caspian. Caspian!” I taunted him some more, I chuckled halfway after. It was a bit difficult to hide my amused expression.“Your highness, please stop with the jokes lest your subjects may think that your highness is of a commoner's wit as it seems you are not able to pronounce a simple name,” Sir Cassian chuckled mockingly, he had just pronounced me as an illiterate commoner under his words. All of a sudden, without warning, a sword was drawn against the golden armoured knight. It was the silver armoured knight that spoke on my behalf before. He had struck his steel sword against Sir Cassian who had blocked the attack with his golden sword.“A silver knight versus a golden knight, who would win in a one-on-one battle,” I wondered in delight.“Hahaha, I see that we have a tyrant amongst our kingdom's knights!” Sir Cassian laughed as he glared at the silver knight.“You dare! If there is a soul that is a tyrant, then it is you, Sir Cassian. How dare you address the first prince in that manner!? This is treason!!” The silver knight changed his stance and slashed with precision once more. The battle was intense and insightful, it was like watching sparks fly with every sword struck between them. However, the silver knight was clearly outmatched. Most of the people even the silver knight couldn't see it, but Sir Cassian was using aura to strengthen his body as well as his attacks.Sir Cassian dodged and retaliated with an aura sword strike. I immediately notice the light blueish glow surrounding his golden sword, they were like blue flames surrounding the sword's golden blade. It was an impressive battle as well as deadly, I could see that the silver knight may not be capable of surviving any more strikes from such an enhanced blade even if he was capable of blocking it with his silver sword. It would just shatter his sword's blade. It was already impressive that the silver knight had lasted this long.“Well, that doesn't seem fair...” I thought so I casually stood up from my wooden throne.Just before their swords made contact, I took a deep breath, listen deeply for my heart beat shouted then focused some of that blueish air called aura into my throat specifically my vocal cords, then roared...“ENOUGH OF THIS FOOLERY!!” My voice shook the entire town square. Even the birds in the sky felt the sound waves. That was the power of a royal – one born of royal blood.I may be 'The Incompetent Prince' but I was still a prince, a royal noble of royal blood. And it was made clear by my roar, no one in the entire town could dispute what they felt or heard from my roar.Truthfully, this was only possible due to what circulated the royal blood in my heart, veins and arteries. It was a special kind of aura known as Royal Aura – the purest of all aura in this fantasy realm. In this fantasy realm of Areth, the aura is known as the atomic properties that exist in every living thing in the world. A kind of special chemical element that thrives in the air we breathe and the food we eat. The control of such an element is only granted to a few blessed by nature and those so-called blessed people are called Aura Benders.Aura Benders, on their own, are already uncommon in the kingdom of Gladia but royals with aura are extremely rare due to the purity of the aura they control and produced. However, when found, they are very much incapable of passing the level of Aura Master – a hierarchy of aura benders, lower than Aura King but higher than Aura Lord.In my case, since I am weak, I'm incapable of producing much more aura than that of an Aura Apprentice — the first level of an aura bender. Just this amplified shout took half of my strength away, but I didn't show it lest I look weak. One way I've come to overcome that disability is control of quality, over quantity. Thus what I lack in quantity, I make up for it in quality. They both lowered their swords under my command and proceeded to kneel on one knee, simultaneously saying, "My apologies, your royal highness."Due to my curiosity, I asked, "Your name, silver knight, I haven't heard it yet. Tell me, what is your name?""Uh-uh... Of course, my lord, I shall tell you at once. Ahem! I am Sir Dustin George, son of George The Butcher, your highness!" Although he stuttered a bit at the beginning, it was still a prompt and respectable response to me.I stroked my chin and uttered, "That sounds familiar..." I remembered knowing someone else by that name but it must have slipped my mind right then."Sire?" Sir Dustin reacted to my uttered words."Oh, never mind. Just thinking aloud," I nonchalantly said."Very well... You may rise, knights of Gladia, I have seen both of your strengths, now I should show mine," I stated."Your highness?" though they responded in unison, Sir Dustin looked confused while Sir Cassian seemed threatened."Oh worry not, I simply want to show off my sword skills just a bit," I assured.Sir Cassian asked, "Forgive my words, sire. But how? Your highness has not studied the way of the sword.""Worry not, it's a bit different from your usual swordsmanship, so how about it, Sir Cassian," I looked towards Sir Cassian."Pardon, your highness?" Sir Cassian said in confusion."How about you and I spar a little?""But, sire-"I interrupted, "But sire nothing! You came to my announcement, spoke against my competency and even had the will to compare me to a commoner, me, a royal prince!" The more I spoke, the more I approached Sir Cassian slowly pushing him to the edge of the wooden stage.Sir Cassian was now hanging at the edge of the platform.I faced him with my glasses reflecting light into his eyes, then finally stated, "Thus! It is already clear that you have challenged me, Prince Philip of Gladia as well as the lord of Sterilia!!" Sir Cassian was so startled by my majestic words that he slipped from the edge of the stage and fell to the ground beneath me.I looked down before him, and stated one last thing, "We battle at dawn! Sir Cassian, don't be late..." And with a slight smirk, I left the stage and headed for my estate on my black stallion, Moonlight. My attendant's followed behind. The next day came and I was ready to battle, it had been a few years since my first real battle. It was early dawn and a new day of reckoning. I had found myself standing by the doors in front of my manor house, looking at all the views surrounding it, I took my time to view it in its beauty. My manor was comprised of tracts of agricultural land, a garden, a pond, a mansion right in the middle and a small path leading to a remote village in which the servants of the estate resided. It was also beautifully surrounded by an orchard of maple trees. But what caught my eye the most were the people working in the estate."There are about 15 to 30 people, each of a different family doing their best to maintain the beauty and functionality of the estate, my estate," I thought as I strolled along the path to the gates.Paige was indisposed at the moment so he couldn't escort me to battle but Penelope was by my side, eager to accompany me to the gates of the estate at the very least.I saw seve
Aura, as mentioned before is an atomic chemical element of the world that could not be easily seen or touched but felt even controlled. Thus, the only way to tell if someone was using aura would be by feeling it in the atmosphere like the feeling of pressure under the sea.The first level for aura benders is Aura Apprentice or Apprentice Of Aura – one who simply can use aura and can improve their physique a bit, thereby allowing them to do things like lift boulders, run fast or even fight beasts like bears or lions but in no way can they match an aura lord. They're basically humans just above the average man.The second level is Aura Lord or Lord of Aura – an aura bender with moderately high volume and control of aura, blessed with the capabilities of a dozen men.For someone like Sir Cassian, he was at the Aura Lord level, having the strength of ten men flowing through his entire being. As we fought, he increased the volume of aura in his body and used that ten-fold strength to throw
"Urgh...!” my head throbbed and ached. It seemed that I had too much to drink, even though I dislike it.“Ah!” The afternoon rays caught my eyes once again. I took a moment to take a breath and refresh my thoughts. Then I slowly opened my eyes to find myself in my private chambers on my mattress, naked, disgruntled and hungover from the previous night's feast. I took a glance around, and to my left, I saw a sleeping maiden lying naked on my left arm. I took another glance but to my right, this time and I saw another maiden lying naked sleeping on my right arm.“What in the ass cheeks happened last night!” I suddenly thought as my eyes were glued to the Maximus Gluteus of the sleeping maidens that slept beside me.I looked to the ceiling of my bed and softly uttered, "Damn..." while imagining how I had just lost my virginity just last night, at the age of 17 and to two dames at that.It wasn't much of an achievement but I was kind of impressed with myself, actually, proud in fact. But
“Sire...?” Sir Ferdinand watched as I stood up from the bed, folded my arms behind my back in a regal manner and walked to the window, watching the people working around the estate."Tell me, Sir Ferdinand. In all this time of being the lord of the state, what have you accomplished?""Sire?""Tell me!" I demanded in a loud tone. The old man nervously rubbed his fingers together as he said, "I-I gave the people more work, which means more workers for the state, and with more labour, there comes more revenue."He paused, waiting for my response but I kept silent and continued to watch the people work through the window.Lord Ferdinand was still nervous, but he continued, "I-I gracefully offered to the old farming jobs so they could meet the town's taxes quota, I-I r-recruited the young men to work honourable jobs in town. I even established a district for the young women to work and provide for themselves in these trying times..."He added with confidence in his voice, "I have done a lo
As I carefully read through the papers in my hands, Lord Ferdinand carefully raised his head to me. He looked at me with those conniving eyes of his and dared to ask, "But sire, how could you have found out about those things?"I looked over the papers into his daring eyes and mischievously chuckled, "You must want me to pluck out those dirty eyes of yours" My voice deepened and Lord Ferdinand lowered his head immediately in fear.I continued, "Ahh... You also mentioned that you sent, sorry, you 'recruited' the young men into town to work honourable jobs. What honourable jobs? Huh?"Lord Ferdinand kept his head low but he still answered, "I-I gave them the privilege of guarding the town as guardsmen." I immediately slapped him after that statement.I leaned into his ear and calmly whispered, "You think you're smart? I know that's just half a lie. You sent half to work as your so-called guardsmen and the other half...?" I slowly retreated from his ear.I looked at the papers and loudly
Penelope had caught the sight of Ferdinand grovelling on the floor next to my feet, and I could see the confusion on her face. So to avoid any unwanted talks or gossip among the maids, I sent Ferdinand away with a smile.“It seems I have a guest in my mansion. Lord Ferdinand, we shall discuss this at a later date. Leave me!”“Of course, your majesty! As you wish!” he said then bowed in earnest, looking very relieved as he immediately left my chambers without looking back.Once he had left, Penelope asked me with concern in her voice, "Was there a problem with the lord chamberlain, sire?""Nothing, my dear. Just a dog finding another master.""Huh...?" Penelope was confused.“Now tell me, who did you say wanted to meet me?”“Oh yes, her royal highness, Queen Patricia Pecunia Gladia has paid the mansion a visit and demands to see you, sire.”"I see, then we must not make her wait then..." I said as I left the room with Penelope right beside me.In the dining room, I was seated there on
Once I finished my meal, Penelope dabbed my stained lips with a silky napkin and took away my plate to the kitchen.I stood up from my table, faced my stepmother with both of my hands on the table and asked her once more, but with passion, "Stepmother! I'll ask you once again! WHY. ARE. YOU. HERE!?"She put up a fake pitiful expression, crying as she said, "I... I thought that I could visit one of my sons to see how he was doing so far from home but I see that I was wrong to think such!"She dabs away her crocodile tears with her black laced handkerchief, "I'll be leaving now."I looked at her with disdain as she stood up and proceeded to leave the dining room. But before Queen Patricia could leave the room with her back turned away from me, I stopped her in her tracks, saying..."Stepmother...! Don't make me laugh, I know you came all the way here just so you could ridicule me in my time of defeat but alas you only found me in my moment of triumph!"I added, "After all, that pest you
“How are you so sure of a dream? A so-called vision that you would even leave your daughter in someone else's hand!?" I asked with a look of disbelief on my face and a bit of rage in my tone.At the time, I wasn't sure why I had such an outburst, maybe it was because I had just recently lost my mother or because I felt sad about the child's fate. I was unsure at the time then and even now.The maid looked into my raging but saddened eyes, she took a moment to ponder and then explained everything to me with a pleasant smile, "I did what I did because of my family's aura bloodline.”“Aura bloodline?” I uttered. She continued, “Yes, sire. You see, in my family's aura bloodline, even though we may not be proficient in using aura, we were blessed with a certain miraculous ability or should I say skill.”“A miraculous skill, you say? I don't quite understand...” I said with a confused look on my face. The young maid continued her explanation, “Well, we were blessed with the passive ability
The illusionist had us trapped in between walls of the garden labyrinth; two walls blocking the paths towards the outer layers of the labyrinth and one wall, blocking the very centre of the labyrinth where the source of all the aura illusions, the illusionist dwelled. I observed the two other walls, and I raged, "Damn it! They're solid illusions as well. That bastard's got us just where he wants us!"*BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*A resounding clash of fists against the centre wall was heard, over and over and over. It was Sir Dustin. He was using all of his might to punch that illusion wall, however, no matter how many times he punched the wall, he couldn't even make a dent on the wall. It was made stronger than any other illusions so far. After a few minutes of non-stop punching, he finally stopped. His knuckles were cut with some of the skin peeled off, the edges of the fingers were bruised and the cut areas were bleeding a bit.Feel
I reached for Sir Dustin's arm and yelled, "Run!" And we sped away from the area, speeding through a few corners.Once we came to a stop at a dead end along a long path, we took a long moment to catch our breaths. I was on the hard floor, with my knees on the floor and my back to the wall. Sir Dustin was still standing tall, his excalibur still in his hand and his other hand on his waist. We were now sweating, dehydrated, starving and exhausted from the long run. We made sure to run through five different corners and changed paths a few times to get to where we were. While gasping for air, Sir Dustin questioned, "Do...Ha...! Do you think they'll appear again, I mean the lightmen, sire?""I...I couldn't say. But I think...Ha...! Ha...! I think we lost them for now. Right now, we need to recover what little strength we have left."The moment we dropped our guards, a flash of blue light struck the unsuspecting Sir Dustin on the back and he f
Sir Dustin's eyes widened at the truth that I exposed his ears to. Conflicted, he stood up from my side on the wall and took a moment to think to himself. He walked aimlessly around me which was annoying and somewhat dizzying to watch.I thought as I watched him stressing, "Where does he get the energy? I'm gasping for air down here and he's busy speed-walking left to right repeatedly!"He even began scratching his head and rubbing his chin in deep thought as he speed-walked around me.While moving erratically, Sir Dustin muttered to himself silently, "Poison to humans, life to aura benders... How? Why?"I could see it all from his body language, he was very intrigued, curious and maybe a bit afraid."Is it too much information to handle?" I said, stopping his random erratic movements."But sire, that...just doesn't make any sense," he stated with doubt in his eyes.I sighed for a bit then rubbed my eyes, I felt like telling this truth to someone as dimwitted as Sir Dustin was coming
Sir Dustin and I ventured back into the labyrinth abandoning any thoughts of escaping the labyrinth but instead, finding the culprit that trapped us here.As we followed the illusion deeper and deeper into the maze-like labyrinth, we found ourselves being attacked, psychologically."Hmm... We're getting closer to the source of the illusions, I can feel it." I said.Sir Dustin mentioned, "Sire, from the looks of it we seem to be going to the very centre of the labyrinth.""Indeed," I replied.Navigating our way back into the labyrinth was not as difficult as finding a way out, we were making good time as well. But then..."Sire, look out!" A sword made completely of just aura appeared and tried to strike me down.I fell to the floor, weaved and dodged the attack, accidentally hitting my back on the labyrinth wall that was behind me, I was a bit injured from the impact. As I looked up, I saw the aura sword that struck
At the garden labyrinth, Sir Dustin and I were navigating the path of the garden labyrinth with haste for hours on end...I caught sight of an opening. “Over there! There's Come on, man! Pick up the speed!”Sir Dustin was right behind me, we ran as quickly as we could speeding through all the corners to reach the exit.As we sped through the labyrinth, the paths behind us began to exponentially grow in vegetation, closing up the paths we came from. Some may have wondered, why couldn't we just climb over the wall of the labyrinth? And they wouldn't be wrong for asking such, but there were three problems to even attempting to climb the walls; First of all, the walls were at least 9 ft tall, which would be difficult to climb in the first place.Secondly, even if we tried to climb the tall walls of thick vegetation, there were sleeping vines growing in between the walls. These were thick strong vines that had prickles all over them and each prickl
Sir Dustin stood there, dumbfounded and somewhat confused as to what I meant. I turned to him and gave him the rose, instructing him to hold onto it. His brows immediately furrowed with confusion when I gave it to him.He just kept staring at the peculiar wild rose as if he was trying to solve a puzzle with his eyes. I, on the other hand, was trying to solve a bigger puzzle.Once the rose was in his hand, I turned away from him once again and marched along another path away from the dead end.As I marched along the new path, I ordered the confused silver knight, “Follow.” And he did with the rose delicately in his hand.As he obediently followed me, Sir Dustin's expression changed from confused to intrigued...“Sire—"I immediately interrupted him, “—Quiet! Just follow.” Once we got to a corner, I stopped and ordered, “Pull out a petal from the rose.”“Pardon, sire? I don't understand.”I sighed, scratching my head i
Sir Dustin looked at me with a confused expression.“Excalibur?” he uttered a question.I answered, “Yes, that shall be the name of your sword from this henceforth.”He retrieved his 'Excalibur' and sheath it. He stood up to me and asked, “But what exactly IS Excalibur? I don't think I've ever heard of such a sword before.”I tucked my hands behind my back, holding that stance as I walked away and gestured for the silver knight to follow me. As we strolled through the winding labyrinth of the garden I began to explain the origins of the name, Excalibur...“The sword known as Excalibur is an old tale of a medieval time”“Medieval time, sire?”“Yes, well... It's a time long before the great world war, a time of simpler time kind of like this one but less... Evolved.“Evolved? Sire?"“Well... We're not savages, we do have some knowledge of science and technology."“Why yes, sire. You do have a point, but didn't we lose all that during the great world war?”“Haha, you would think...”“Pard
I stood there dumbfounded by Sir Dustin's request, no, his life wish. This wasn't a game, this was life or death. And he was betting it all on me. I was seriously stressing out. so much that I began to retreat from the scene.“Master?” Sir Dustin looked at me slowly retreating with such sincere eyes.I was perturbed, I stopped myself and stood still. I began to think but no matter how I thought about the situation I couldn't reach a better conclusion. The more I saw him on his knee with his bleeding hand, it made it even more difficult to decide if this was the right course of action or not, I couldn't just trust him but...his conviction to serve me made me think otherwise. At the moment, all I could do was...“Fine...!” Menacingly, I rolled back my golden-dyed curly bangs back as I said that. My expression had suddenly changed from calm to thrilling.“Pardon, sire!? Did you say...?"“I said I'll do it but you're going to have to
“I... I... I'm not,” Sir Dustin was speechless and demoralized by my questions. He couldn't even muster any rebuttals. His expression had become that of a defeated man, utterly sad.I left his head to fall, and his other knee fell with it. He was quiet after that, it made me think, “It seems that I may have broken his will and pride. That's unfortunate. I'd have thought he was stronger than that.”I pocketed my hands and began to step away from the fallen silver knight. As I did, I also thought, “No matter! If he wasn't able to handle a little criticism, then he would never be able to handle the burden of staying by my side. My path, after all, is a treacherous one.”As I slowly walked away, my ears caught some noise from behind me, it sounded like a deep inhale and...“Is he... Still...?” I turned back only to witness Sir Dustin, still on his knees inhaling the cold air around him.“What is he...?” I couldn't finish my thoughts. With
