Eddie stood on the overgrown path, staring at the once-grand house that now looked like it had been abandoned for years. Weeds crept up the sides of the structure, and broken windows gaped like missing teeth. He shook his head, frustration etched on his face.

“I can’t believe this,” Eddie muttered, turning to his sister, Jennifer, who stood beside him with a guilty expression.

Jennifer bit her lip, looking down at her feet. “I’m sorry, Eddie. I didn’t know it would get this bad.”

Eddie sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Leaving the house to Jeremiah’s guy was a mistake, Jen. I told you we should’ve handled it ourselves.”

Jennifer looked up, tears welling in her eyes. “I thought he could be trusted. Jeremiah swore he was reliable.”

Eddie stepped closer, softening his tone. “I know you were trying to help, but we can’t rely on others for things like this.
