"We should talk in the car, come on!" Gilbert hurriedly pushed Douglas to leave the terrace of his house.
However, Douglas, still shocked by Eddie's statement, chose to stay and said, "Wait, Gilbert! How could you not tell me about this guy's presence! I mean, this is a ridiculous thing happening in my life! How can a convict become an investor in my company?!"
"Calm down, Dude!" Eddie chuckled.
A grin spread across his face, all the fear and nervousness that had come rushing in earlier had completely disappeared. Eddie seemed like a different person; he was much more confident to refute every word coming out of Douglas's mouth.
"Okay, the situation is getting weirder now, as I said before--." Gilbert's sentence stopped when Eddie signaled him to be silent.
"It’s okay, Gilbert. Even if he doesn't want to work with us, it's not a big deal. I am an investor, and it's clear here who needs whom, right?"
"Ah, you want to act arrogant just because you're Mr. Jehemian's heir? Damn it! You're nothing but a fool who ruined my project back then!" Douglas snapped.
"I indeed don't have enough evidence to make you believe that I didn't steal your files; I was just framed by Frank, your best rival, my ex-director, and best friend. But one thing you should remember, I have a lot of money to make you and your company crumble. I may be new here, but I'm sure my father's influence, Mr. Jehemian, is very significant in making many people bow down. So, it's all up to you; I won't force it if you want to stop us as your permanent investors in Zeula Corp."
Gilbert looked fascinated by Eddie's reaction; he wore a proud expression. Meanwhile, Douglas looked puzzled, furrowing his brow and clenching his hands with emotion.
Silence among the three of them lasted quite a while, and it all ended when Douglas approached Eddie, bowing his head.
"Forgive me for my rude behavior; I deeply regret it. If only there were a more powerful way to redeem the mistakes that happened, I would definitely do it. I beg you to remain an investor in Zeula Corp. Late Mr. Jehemian was a very important person in our company; without Mr. Jehemian, this company would not run smoothly. And also, regarding the betrayal by Frank, I am ready to bring him back into this case. It might be a little difficult, though, considering he's close to one of the minister's children who organized this implant chip project."
"Wait, what? Weren't you the winner of this project? From what you said, it sounds like Frank might likely replace your position. What happened?" Eddie asked.
Douglas raised his head, his expression, previously filled with anger, now much more relaxed. "Let me explain as we go, and just to inform you, Frank will be coming to this party."
Eddie grinned sideways. He patted Gilbert's shoulder and said, "Well, let's go, then. Let's not waste our time because I can't wait to see Frank's face. I miss seeing my friend."
Douglas walked ahead to the car, and Eddie's step was halted by Gilbert. Gilbert seemed to shake his head and whispered, "I never expected you could change in an instant! As far as I remember, you were very scared earlier, but now you just made Douglas weak!"
"I'm confused too, it's like all that anger disappeared just like that. Courage came, and I imagined how I had to be treated like a dog in prison, not given a chance to speak and always being used as a punching bag for people there. It all seemed to crush my worries; besides, I'm also aware of the influence I have now. I hope you can always help me, Gilbert, even though I know it must be painful for you to give up everything for a stranger who suddenly came into your life."
"Of course, I'm jealous, but I'm still sane enough not to do anything stupid. This is not a movie, Eddie, just relax. I appreciate how the process is going in my life; I'll support you until you're truly able to walk alone. Besides, this isn't free; I haven't made an offer to you yet, have I?"
Eddie shrugged his shoulders, and they continued their interrupted steps to get into the car.
"Do you want to listen to the radio?" Douglas asked as the car drove off.
"No, I just want to hear the rest of Frank's story," Eddie replied.
"Ah, yeah, that's much more interesting. So, Frank used to cheat on my fiancée; this will be the starting point of why he could get close to the minister's child. My fiancée was close friends with him, and coincidentally, the minister's child, Monica, was interested in Frank.
When the old minister stumbled upon a case and had to be dismissed, Monica's father was appointed as the minister, and this tempted Frank. He saw such a huge opportunity to snatch this project, especially since I was having difficulty with funds because your father had just passed away. This happened five months ago, by the way.
You know, the value of this project is very large; everyone would rush to get it. The oddity began when my chip, which was initially very good and working well, turned out to have errors and was suspected to trigger a very aggressive disease that could kill people within two months.
Our work had to be stopped, and we were asked to wait for further orders. And now, I am surprised by the development of the chip from Frank's company. With you here now, we can move forward and even sue them all, considering I haven't received any letter for the cancellation of this project," Douglas explained.
"Interesting, we won't stop and give up so easily. I'm sure Mr. Jehemian has a lot of influence in the government, right, Gilbert?" Eddie asked.
"Yeah, the minister mentioned by Douglas is our father's enemy. They had a disagreement back when I was little; I still remember it vividly. So, maybe this will be an interesting war between you who have grudges against each other."
Eddie nodded slowly. In his head, he remembered how Frank trapped him on the rooftop that time.
"We will make Frank regret playing with us, and by the way, Douglas, this is the same car as the one Frank gave me when I was framed. What happened? How could he use your car?"
"Since you said he framed you, I realized that night my fiancée did borrow this car to go to her grandmother's house. So, it's highly likely that it was a plan they both concocted. I truly regret what happened; maybe this will ease your pain a little. My ex-fiancée is now in jail for embezzlement, so only Frank is left for us to deal with together," Douglas replied, staring at Eddie through the rearview mirror near his head.
Eddie rested his chin on his hand and looked out the window. His young brown eyes seemed filled with anger. "Yeah, I don't care about your fiancée, by the way, but one thing's for sure, Frank is our common target."
The festive atmosphere of the party held at one of the renowned and most luxurious beach clubs was already evident from outside the entrance gate. The booming music and cheers carried by the wind reached Eddie's ears."Fascinating, I've never experienced a party like this before, just some dinner parties with wealthy people who barely even know me," Eddie said to Gilbert."It's a bit strange to hear that, considering you're a vice-director; many people should know you," Gilbert replied."It's not that easy, Gilbert. In fact, you could say, I just realized now, I'm rarely involved in company matters. Frank just used my name to fill that position and shifted the blame onto me. I only often deal with lawyers or things related to the law. I should have realized it from the beginning. I was always stuck on the kindness given by Frank's family; I was just a poor guy who then became close friends with Frank and finally got the chance to become a vice-director. Isn't that like a treasure for
Gilbert's face looked like crumpled paper as he hung up the phone, directing an irritated look at Eddie as he said, "Thanks to you, my phone hasn't stopped ringing. You know, after father's death, everyone who worked with him is supposed to contact me if they want to do anything. Your sudden appearance in the news made them all bombard me until my hands ache!""It's only natural, right? Considering you're my brother and essentially my companion, Gilbert. Just enjoy it," Eddie said casually as he sipped his cocktail.Gilbert sighed heavily and rubbed his forehead. "Your introduction should have happened at least two or three days after this. I wanted to invite everyone for dinner and talk about you. If I may offer some advice, you seem too consumed by ego now. I mean, I'm glad to see you're no longer trapped in fear, but you also need to relax a bit.""Relax how? I've been relaxed for too long, living life being stuffed by people like Frank. Let me be arrogant, conceited, and tacky; I
Angela's bedroom door was roughly opened by Eddie. His hands were busy carrying Angela's body while kissing her lips. He was so passionate that he accidentally slammed Angela's body too hard onto the bed."Wait!" Angela stopped Eddie's attempt to touch her again. "I don't have any condoms. Can you buy them quickly? There's a store at the end of the street."Eddie's aroused expression turned disappointed, but he chose to comply with Angela's request. For him, the opportunity to sleep with a woman as beautiful as Angela was something to be seized."Wait, then, and do something that makes me crazy when I’m back." Eddie gave Angela a kiss on the lips and immediately left the room.Angela hurriedly got up from her bed and peeked at Eddie through her window. Just as the car started moving, Angela pressed a number on her phone and made a call."He's gone. You can send the money now, or I'll expose everything you've planned. Always remember who's protecting me, Frank!"Angela grinned widely a
The grin on Frank's face was evident after reading the message from the two individuals who had shot Eddie's car."Good job, no one can stop me, Eddie. That trashy announcement deliberately made when I entered this club? Hah!""What’s wrong, Honey? You've been restless since earlier, and now you look so happy, did something happen?" Monica approached Frank, her eyes full of questions."Nothing, I just--.""Attention, please!"The music stopped, replaced by Gilbert's presence standing on the podium, causing Frank's sentence to halt. He signaled Monica not to speak yet, as Frank's eyes were focused entirely on Gilbert."I want to ask all of you here, has anyone seen Eddie? He hasn't been seen for an hour now, and I can't reach his phone. The last time he was seen, he was with a blonde woman in a tight red dress, um, maybe someone recognizes that woman? I don't know her name; if anyone knows, please tell me, it's crucial.""Eddie? The guy who was talking to you earlier, right? Mr. Jehemi
A wide grin appeared on Eddie's face as Gilbert showed him a news headline, three hours after he arrived at home."Are you satisfied now? What's the next plan? The news of your death has spread, and I only need to hold a press conference and meetings with business associates under our father's umbrella. This is crazy, I feel like I'm being played by a mad convict!"Eddie chuckled, wincing in pain as his leg was being bandaged by the doctor. "I'll tell you once this doctor is done with my body. How much longer until all of this is over?""Almost there, Mr. Eddie, I'm truly amazed by the condition of your body, leaving only a few bruises, wounds, and the most remarkable thing is that your leg is just sprained, not broken. It's very rare, considering how bad the car you were in was wrecked as reported in the news. You're amazing.""Yeah, maybe this is all the effect of getting punched in prison so often, even several times I was hanged and hit alternately. I don't know how many times my
Jennifer burst through Eddie's bedroom door, startling her brother out of his deep sleep. He rubbed his eyes, still heavy with drowsiness.“What the hell, Jennifer?”“I’ve checked the flights to Poland, and considering the time needed to get your new documents ready, it’ll take two days. So, you can’t leave on June 10th. Your flight is rescheduled to June 12th. I’ve already contacted my friend who’ll help with the new documents. He’ll be here this afternoon. You should start getting ready now!”Eddie glanced at the clock on his small bedside table and saw that it was already eight in the morning. He nodded and motioned for Jennifer to leave. “Alright, I’ll get ready.”Jennifer looked irritated but finally left, closing the door with a bit of force.“What’s her problem, acting like that so early in the morning,” Eddie muttered to himself.Eddie got out of bed and took off his shirt. Just as he was about to pull down his underwear, the door burst open again, and Jennifer walked back in,
"Miss Jennifer, what about all the assets your father left to the late Eddie? Will everything be transferred to your name?""Miss Jennifer, why wasn't anyone allowed to cover Mr. Eddie's funeral? Is it true that his body was donated to a research institution?""Miss Jennifer, there's also talk that Mr. Eddie has been cremated at a facility on the outskirts of town, is that true?"Eddie couldn't help but smile slightly at the questions pouring out from the journalists. As per Jennifer's plan, today was the day of Eddie's fake funeral. Jennifer held a press conference, and of course, there was no actual funeral taking place."You're as crazy as your father. No wonder he loved you so much and entrusted all his wealth to you."A tall man with a defined jawline and high nose appeared next to Eddie. The man smiled and extended his hand to Eddie."Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself amidst all this crazy planning. I'm Marquez, your personal lawyer and right-hand man. I was instructed by Jehem
Eddie was engrossed in his game, the flickering lights of the screen reflecting in his eyes as he maneuvered his character through a virtual battlefield. The tension of the game kept his focus razor-sharp, his fingers deftly dancing over the controller. Then, the insistent ringing of his phone broke through the digital world, jolting him back to reality. The name on the screen made his heart skip a beat—Jennifer. He paused the game, his mind racing with the implications of the call. Jennifer wouldn't contact him unless it was important. Taking a deep breath, he picked up the phone."Hey, what's up my little sister. Don't tell me something unimportant, please." Eddie greeted, trying to keep his voice steady."Shut up. I have a good news, moron," Jennifer's voice came through, filled with a mix of urgency and excitement. "Everything is ready for your new identity."Eddie leaned back in his chair, relief washing over him. "That’s great. What’s the next step?"Jennifer’s voice softened sli
“Eddie, you need to think this through,” his secretary, Lisa, urged as she shuffled through papers on his desk. “Keeping your distance from Agatha might not be the best strategy right now.”Eddie leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. “You don’t understand. I can’t afford to get too close to her, not after everything that’s happened.”“Look, I get it. But you’ve already agreed to help her with her family’s company. If you cut ties now, it’ll look suspicious,” Lisa replied, raising an eyebrow.Eddie sighed heavily. “It was a mistake to agree to that in the first place. I should have never involved myself in her family’s business.”“Eddie, this is a complicated situation. You know Agatha needs your support,” Lisa pressed, her voice steady. “She’s promised to start fresh, to make this work. You can’t just back out.”“Her promises don’t mean anything if it jeopardizes my own company,” Eddie countered, his voice rising slightly. “I have to think about my future, my business. I can’
“Eddie!” Jennifer called out as she stepped into the house, her heart racing.Eddie emerged from the kitchen, looking worn out and a little worried. “You’re back! How was your trip?”“It was beautiful, but… we need to talk,” Jennifer said, struggling to keep her voice steady.“Talk about what?” Eddie asked, leaning against the kitchen counter, sensing the tension in the air.“Andrew… he wants to marry me,” Jennifer blurted out, the words escaping before she could rein them in.Eddie’s brow furrowed. “What? You’ve got to be kidding me. You just got back from a vacation! Why would you even consider that?”“I know it sounds crazy, but he’s serious. He wants me to leave everything and be with him,” she replied, panic rising in her chest.“Leave everything? Jennifer, are you really thinking about this? What about us?” Eddie’s voice rose slightly, betraying his frustration.“I’m not saying I will! I just… I need time to figure things out,” she stammered, trying to make sense of her feelings.
Eddie leaned back in his chair, staring out the window as he waited for Agatha to arrive. The morning sun filtered through the glass, casting shadows across his desk, but the warmth offered little comfort. His mind raced with possibilities, scenarios of how this confrontation would play out. He could almost hear the tension humming in the air, a warning that things were about to get messy. When Agatha finally entered, she was all business, her heels clicking sharply against the hardwood floor. Her expression was calm, but Eddie noticed a flicker of something in her eyes—nervousness, perhaps, or anticipation.“Eddie,” she greeted, her tone cool. “You wanted to see me?”“Have a seat,” he replied, gesturing to the chair across from him. He needed to maintain control, to keep the upper hand in this conversation.Agatha sat down, her posture elegant, but there was a slight tension in her shoulders. “What’s this about?”“Let’s not pretend, Agatha. You know exactly why I wanted to talk to yo
"Eddie, calm down. You're jumping to conclusions." Agatha’s voice was smooth, too smooth for Eddie’s liking. She sat across from him, legs crossed, sipping her tea as if the world wasn’t on fire.Eddie clenched his fists, barely able to control his rising anger. His office felt smaller, suffocating, as if the walls were closing in on him. “Calm down? Agatha, one of my subsidiaries just got shut down for a violation, and it happens to be the one your man, Charles, oversees. You expect me to believe that’s just a coincidence?”Agatha didn’t even flinch. She set her cup down delicately, her sharp eyes meeting his. “I understand your frustration, Eddie. But accusing me without evidence won’t solve your problem. Charles has been nothing but loyal, and whatever happened at that company was not my doing. You’re letting your emotions cloud your judgment.”Eddie’s jaw tightened. “You think this is about emotions? Agatha, I’ve been in this business long enough to know when something stinks. I j
"Jennifer, you need a break. We've both been working nonstop, and honestly, I think a vacation would do us both some good." Andrew's voice was steady but held a hint of concern as they sat across from each other in the quiet corner of a café.Jennifer stirred her coffee absentmindedly, her mind elsewhere. "I don’t know if I’m ready to go anywhere, Andrew. There’s too much going on, and I can’t just leave. Especially with everything at the office." She sighed, the weight of Frank's death still lingering in her voice, even though she had started to heal.Andrew leaned forward, his eyes locking onto hers. "You can't keep burying yourself in work, Jen. It's not healthy. You’ve been carrying a lot on your shoulders, and I get it. But you need to take care of yourself too. Just a few days away. Let’s go somewhere quiet, where you don’t have to think about business or Frank for a while."Jennifer hesitated, chewing her lip. She knew Andrew was right, but the thought of leaving everything beh
“Grace, I need to know exactly what’s going on,” Eddie demanded, pacing around his office. His voice was sharp, filled with frustration. “We can’t afford any more surprises, and this Wilford situation has already cost us enough.”Grace, sitting calmly across from him, nodded. “I understand, Mr. Cameron. I’ve already started pulling reports from the other subsidiaries. But, honestly, I think we need to have a bigger conversation about oversight. This isn’t just about Wilford anymore.”Eddie stopped pacing and turned to face her. “What do you mean?”She handed him a folder. “I’ve been digging, and there are minor discrepancies in a few other subsidiaries as well. It’s not at the level of Wilford, but it’s enough to raise concerns.”Eddie flipped through the documents, his brow furrowing deeper with each page. “How did this happen under my watch? I had systems in place, checks and balances—how did we miss all of this?”Grace gave him a sympathetic look. “Honestly, I think the company has
Eddie sat at his desk, staring at the numbers on the financial report in front of him. His heart sank as he scanned the figures again, hoping he had somehow misread the data. But there was no mistaking it—his company had taken a sharp hit, and the numbers reflected a significant loss.“This doesn’t make sense,” he muttered to himself, furrowing his brow. He quickly picked up his phone and dialed his personal secretary, Grace.Moments later, Grace appeared at the door, clipboard in hand, her face calm as ever. She was always efficient, always on top of everything, and Eddie trusted her implicitly. But today, something felt off, and he needed answers.“Grace,” he said, his voice sharp with urgency. “What’s going on with the numbers? Our revenues have dropped drastically. I need you to dig into this and find out where the problem lies.”Grace nodded, her fingers already flying over her tablet as she pulled up the latest data. “I’ll get to it right away, Mr. Cameron. I’ll have a detailed
Eddie paced back and forth in his office, his phone gripped tightly in his hand. He had just read Jennifer’s text: *"We’re heading to Aruba. I’ll be fine, Eddie. Don’t worry."* His gut told him something was off, but he didn’t want to overreact—at least not yet.He opened his contacts, his thumb hovering over a few trusted names. Maybe he could ask one of them to keep an eye on Jennifer while she was away. But before he could make a decision, Agatha appeared at the doorway, her presence calm and poised.“Eddie, what’s going on?” Agatha’s voice was smooth, almost soothing. She noticed the tension in his shoulders, the way he clenched his phone like it was the last tether holding him together. Eddie exhaled heavily, running a hand through his hair. “Jennifer just texted me. She’s heading to Aruba with Andrew. Something feels… wrong.”Agatha raised an eyebrow, stepping further into the room. “Aruba? With Andrew? That doesn’t sound too bad, does it?” Her voice had a lilt of casualness, a
Andrew watched Jennifer run toward the car, her decision clear as she fumbled with her phone. His face twisted in frustration, his mind racing. He had spent weeks meticulously planning this, gaining her trust, making her think he was her escape. And now, Eddie had ruined everything. His phone buzzed in his pocket, but he ignored it, clenching his fists. Jennifer had already stepped away, halfway across the tarmac, but Andrew wasn’t ready to let this go so easily. With determined steps, he caught up to her, his voice low but urgent as he reached out to grab her arm. "Jennifer, wait."Jennifer stopped, startled, but didn’t turn around immediately. She seemed to wrestle with herself, not quite pulling away from him yet. Andrew took that as a sign to keep going."Just listen to me," Andrew urged, trying to soften his tone. "You don’t have to believe anything Eddie says. He’s trying to confuse you, make you doubt your own decisions."Jennifer shook her head, her voice barely above a whis
