SPACE SYSTEM IN A POST-APOCALYPTIC WORLD

CHAPTER 6

Akim's pov

"What the hell?" I said with horror written on my face

I couldn't understand what I was looking at, a brunette lady looking like she was in her early twenties was on the floor with a shelf on her upper body except for her head, and a zombie was at her lower half literally eating her ass, as the woman continued to scream for help but she was not looking my way but in front of her almost as if she was looking at someone as I approached cautiously I saw a man approaching the woman slowly with a metal bat, at the back of the man, there were two small kids. The man moved closer till he saw me, he stopped in his tracks shocked but I signaled he should keep quiet as I slowly moved closer when I got next to the zombie I kicked it away from the lady cocking my shotgun, the zombie got back up trying to attack me as I shot it brains out, the man fell on his knees crawling to the woman, as I moved closer to examine the zombie I found a crystal.

I looked over at the man, and when I made sure he wasn't looking, I moved closer and picked it up as I kept it inside my pocket with the other ones I had gotten, so I had about six now. I moved closer to the man and saw he was balling his eyes out next to the gasping woman on the floor, I looked over the woman and it looked like all the areas below the waist and above the thighs had been eaten and the shelf on her must have most likely crushed her internal organs judging from the way she was coughing up blood, I then looked over the kids, a boy and a girl and saw that the smaller one which was the girl was crying loudly and the older one was hugging her tightly while trying to hold his tears.

"You know she's not gonna make it right?" I said as the man jolted up

" She's probably going to turn into a zombie like that one over there," I said pointing with my shotgun at the one I shot " and that is only if she doesn't lose too much blood and die after suffering for so long"

" B-but isn't there something we can do? " The man said

" I know you understand what I meant, there's nothing we can do other than to relieve her of her any more pain she would go through "

" I understand, " the man said standing up "Let me move my kids somewhere else then you can do it "

"All right"

" Is she an acquaintance? It seemed like you care for her"

" She's my wife," he said turning away " We'll be outside "

As he left with the kids, I felt bad for him and the kids as they had to watch something that terrible happen to someone they love; I don't know what I would do if that were to happen to me.

"Rooooaarr"

I guess she became a zombie instead.

" I hope you find peace "

I aimed my shotgun at her and shot her in the head.

As I came out of the supermarket, I saw the father and his kids outside beside a car. Maybe it was their car. I looked over at my jeep and saw the kids were still in there, I walked over to them and saw they were still terrified with what they experienced. Richard was using a cloth to dab his nose, Emma was trying to do something on her phone and the rest were staring blankly into space.

"There's food in the supermarket behind me and I already checked around it's safe, so get anything you need as long as it's easy to transport "

The kids started coming down from the jeep as they started entering the supermarket.

"Richard, you should stay back"

I grabbed my first aid kit from the car and sat him down

"Thankfully it isn't broken, it's just a cut," I said

I opened the alcohol I had stashed inside my back pocket and drank a bit of it then I poured some on a cotton wool to clean up the injury and then used a gauze and bandage to cover the wound.

"What you did today, I think-"

" I was reckless and irresponsible I know everyone says that," Richard said

" If you had let me finish, I was going to say that was very brave of you," I said as his face beamed up

" I don't know anyone this brave and young"

" You really mean that? " He said

" Yeah," I smiled, " I'll tell you what, how about I teach you how to handle one of these? " I said holding the shotgun

" Are you kidding me? Hell yeah baby " he said jumping up

" Now don't get too excited and break your nose this time," I said laughing

" Don't tell me what to do Old man"

I winced at that statement, thinking of how nice he had just seconds ago; I should have known they were all spoilt brats. I tapped his nose as I walked toward the man and his children; I could hear him swearing at me, but I just ignored him and continued walking.

I spoke to the man and he told me about how they managed to escape from their home after they got attacked by zombies and how they thought that the supermarket was the best place to stay in an apocalypse with all the resources, we agreed they would follow us for a while till they could get out of town.

As night came we decided to sleep in the already set up tent made by Mr Aiden when he and his family started staying here. I was supposed to take the first watch, then Mr. Aiden took the second one, and we rotated till daybreak; as I was loading the shotgun with shells, I heard a crash coming from the frozen treats section.
