Bae’s eyes twinkled with amusement as she watched Archie approach their table, his focus solely on balancing the two steaming cups of coffee. There was a certain charm in his concentration, a kind of authenticity that drew her to him.
He wasn’t like the rest. He was more...normal.
“He’s hot,” A girl remarked, her eyes lingering on Archie with obvious interest.
Her moment of quiet observation was interrupted by the sudden intrusion of a redhead from across the booth. Bae’s attention snapped to the girl, her initial admiration for Archie melted away as she quickly composed herself, her voice taking on a casual tone.
“Maybe, I don’t know.” she replied with a slight shrug.
The redhead pressed on, undeterred by Bae’s nonchalant response. “Does he have a girlfriend?”
“I don’t know...” Bailey’s voice trailed, she had just realized that she knew nothing about his personal life.
It had been a week already and she was the least proud to admit that she still called him ‘newbie.’
“Incoming.” Archie managed to drop the cups on the table, without spilling any hot liquid. He slumped into the seat opposite Bae, his expression one of relief mixed with exhaustion.
Bae couldn’t help but smile at his disheveled appearance, a warmth spreading through her chest at the sight of him.
“I like your shirt,” Bae beamed. “Where did you get it?”
“Uh, there’s this thrift store across my street.” Archie’s response was casual, almost dismissive. He diverted the conversation, before Bae could ask another question. “Who was the girl you were talking to?”
“An admirer, you should give her your number.” She lifted the cup to her lips as she observed his discomfort.
Archie ran his fingers through his dark curls, a smile plastered on his face. “Oh”
Bailey studied him like she was one of her test subjects then she blurted out “I mean, you’re quite muscular.”
His face flushed with color as he processed her comment.
She couldn’t help but burst into laughter, her fingers tapping on her cup as she struggled to find the right words. “What I meant to say was... Have you ever considered joining the football team?”
Archie glanced at her, a hint of hesitation in his voice. “Yeah, but I don’t want the attention.”
He indeed had thought of joining the football team while he was at Williams but Tommy was on the team as well. He made sure he made his life a torment during practice and so he had to quit.
“I think you’ll fit in nicely” She said, her head tilted as she tried to imagine him in the uniform. “There’s a tryout after school. You should come, just for fun.”
Archie’s lips twisted thoughtfully, his gaze drifting into his coffee. “Maybe.”
Archie walked onto the field, the heat of the sun beating down on him as he navigated through the stadium. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, a testament to the intensity of the afternoon sun. The stadium stretched out before him.
Faint cheers and chants drift across the field from the direction of the cheerleaders as they rehearsed their routine.
From her position on the cheerleading team, Bae spotted Archie and waved excitedly, gesturing towards the man standing by the pavement. She mouthed to him, urging him to meet with the coach.
As Archie approached the coach, he could feel the tension in the air. The coach’s voice boomed across the field, frustration evident in every word as he addressed the football team.
“Time out!” Coach Davis’s voice boomed across the field, frustration evident in every word as he addressed the football players. Sweat dripped down his face, from the intensity of the practice. “You girls better not perform this way during our match”
Archie’s confidence wavered in the face of the coach’s stern demeanor, and he instinctively turned to leave.
“You!” Coach Davis’ sharp command stopped Archie in his tracks, drawing the attention of everyone on the field towards him. “What do you want?”
Archie felt a pang of intimidation as all eyes turned to him. The coach’s sharp gaze locked onto him, demanding to know his purpose on the field.
“I...” Archie struggled to find his voice as his eyes fell on Ash, who stood nearby in his football uniform, a smirk playing on his lips as he squeezed a water bottle into his mouth.
He had no idea that Ash was on the team. It felt as though he had unwittingly walked into a lion’s den.
Summoning his courage, Archie took a deep breath and spoke up. “I’m here for the tryout”
Ash spat his water from his mouth and roared into a laugh. “I think you got lost, nerd. The book club is that way,” he taunted, pointing in the opposite direction of the stadium.
Laughter rippled across the field, every taunt from his teammates adding to Archie’s mounting frustration.
“That’s not the direction of the library, moron.” Archie finally lashed out.
Ash’s expression shifted from amusement to anger in an instant. His piercing gaze silenced his teammates who were on the brink of laughter.
Ash stormed across the field to Archie. He grabbed his collar and showed a fist to him. “How about I rearrange the direction on your face?”
The coach intervened, blowing his whistle to restore order. “Save that adrenaline for the field, Ash.” He shot Ash a warning glare.
“Meanwhile, you” His attention turned to Archie. “Get on that field, if you want to prove yourself to me.”
Archie hesitated, his heart froze in his chest. “But they’re already trained-” His voice was barely heard when the coach blew on his whistle again.
“Ash, you’re on team red. Nerd, you’re on team blue.” He blew his whistle again.
“Get to your positions, everyone!”
As the sun dipped low in the sky, the air buzzed with anticipation. Spectators quickly filled the stands, their voices blending into a steady hum of excitement. Bailey took her seat among the crowd, her eyes fixed on the field below. “I pity him,” one of the cheerleaders suddenly chimed in, her voice cutting through the buzz of the crowd. She beckoned to the rest of the squad, her tone laced with certainty. “Ash is definitely going to pound the new guyBailey ignored her mates, she remained silent, her gaze unwavering as she watched Archie with hopeful anticipation. On the field, Archie and Ash stood facing each other, both cladded in uniform. Their eyes locked in a fierce rivalry. Tension crackled in the air as they waited for the next whistle. As the referee’s whistle pierced the air, the match sprang into action. Ash wasted no time, swiftly grabbing the ball and darting across the field with lightning speed. His teammates rallied around him, creating a wall of defense that Archie
“Ow,” Archie winced. They were both seated in an empty classroom, his chair mere inches away from Bailey’s.“Stop overreacting, it isn’t that serious.” Bailey dipped a cotton swab in ointment before applying it on the wound. He narrowed his eyes at her, but she giggled. “You were amazing, though.” She added, wrapping a bandage around his knee. “I’ve never sat that long for a match in my entire life.”“You’re welcome” he nodded in acknowledgement as he watched her carefully tend to his wound. “You’re good at this, who knows, maybe med school is your calling.”“Well, I did apply,” she shrugged. “But my parents were against it.”“Why?”She forced a fake smile. “I’m the only child. There’s no one else to take over the family business other than me. I bet they just can’t wait to marry me off.” She rolled her eyes dramatically.“Then why don’t you simply say no.” Archie suggested.“It’s complicated.” Their eyes locked, her hands gently massaging the bandage. “You can’t just say no to famil
“Archie,” Marshall exclaimed with joy upon spotting his son near the office. “I almost didn’t think you would make it.”As Archie approached, his eyes landed on another figure lounging in a chair. His expression faltered. “I see you’ve met your brother. This is Leon. Leon, meet your long-lost brother, Archie.”“Yeah, I know who he is,” Leon retorted, rolling his eyes. He rose from his seat and strode toward his younger brother, emanating a strong aura that sent shivers down Archie’s spine.Leon extended his hand, and Archie reluctantly accepted it. “Nice to finally meet you,” Leon said, his accent revealing a blend of various foreign influences, hinting at his diverse upbringing. After a moment of lingering eye contact, Leon withdrew his hand. “Well, I’ll catch you lots later.”“What do you mean? We have a family dinner this evening,” Marshall interjected.“As much as I’d love to attend that awkward reunion, I have somewhere else to be,” Leon replied. He took a curt, mocking bow and t
Archie was wondering what Ryder meant by what he said but was interrupted by his father descending the stairs with a smile.Marshall beamed at his son who was standing with Ryder. There was nothing that was stopping him from making Ryder go back to school. Maybe now that Archie was around, Ryder would be more serious. "He's not the problem, son. I didn't see that you were committed enough. If I see you showing interest in the things that matter, I will make you return to school."Archie noticed the strain between both father and son. So he decided to exempt himself from the situation. "It was great spending time with you however, it's getting late and I have to run," Archie said and they didn't say anything. "Thank you for dinner." He added before turning away. "Thank you too."Archie nodded carefully before turning away. "No, not so fast," Marshall replied swiftly and he turned towards his father."I'm sorry?""You can't just leave, Marcel will take you home.""I don't mind...""I
Ralph stuttered when he saw the video of him kneeling with a guy. It was the most embarrassing secret of his that he didn't want his wife to know. "W-where the hell did you see that?" He stuttered and rushed to seize the phone from Archie but was stopped as Archie dodged. "I don't know... Maybe, I should just show your lovely wife. Her name is Mrs. Laurie right?" Ralph's eyes grew red as he wondered how this young boy had managed to see him. "how do I know that you didn't Photoshop it?" "Oh, really? Do you think that I photoshopped it? Well, I will still send you more, and also give your wife the contact of the man, and let's see if she would think that it was photoshopped." Ralph pinched the bridge of his nose in anger, "I don't know what you want, you're just s bastard who is trying to play smart but I assure you that it won't work on me. You will regret ever doing this and I don't even mind." Archie shook his head, "I don't know about you but all I want is very simple, apolog
Daisy was beaming when Archie walked in and he pretended not to understand what was happening. "Come in, son. I have good news for you but firstly, did you see Mr. Ralph's car on the way here?"Archie shrugged while being happy inwardly watching his mother look so relieved "No, I didn't. Should I be happy about something ma'am?" He inquired and she beamed."Yes, you should, but before I tell you what happened, where did you get this from?" She inquired, nodding towards the groceries in his hands leaving him a bit stunned. Archie took a minute before finally speaking. He didn't want to expose his heritage yet. "I don't know... It was from my savings and while I was shopping, I met a very kind stranger who helped me out and said that I didn't need to worry about the bills, so after he left I still went back to add more groceries. May I put them in the fridge?" He inquired, avoiding her question tactfully.Daisy, having no reason to doubt her lovely son nodded and rubbed her palms excit
Archie headed to school the next day with a pep in his step. After his accomplishments the previous day, he was feeling fly, satisfied with himself at being able to improve his mother's loving condition, that had always been his goal and he was happy that it was finally coming to pass. He saw a few people staring at him when he walked into school but he didn't know what they were looking at and quite frankly he didn't care about what they thought. Suddenly he felt a presence beside him and he turned to look at Bailey who was smiling at him. "Good morning, Archie." Archie blinked, he didn't think that she would come to him openly again. In his mind, he had thought that it was a one-time thing. "I don't know why you are here, aren't you supposed to be in class?" He inquired as he glanced at his watch. She chuckled at his obvious confusion. "Yeah, I should be in school, but I am not simply because we are not having any lectures today.Archie came to a halt. "Oh? Why is that?" Bailey
Coleman's family house stood out impressively against the terrain and they nodded at how magnificent it was. It was very obvious that his father was rich. Well, he was the Mayor so what did they expect?"I don't understand the rave about these boy's houses. It's just so saddening." "Oh? I didn't know that there was a rave about it. If you will, I would have loved for you to just try as much as possible to pipe down today so that we don't get into any trouble at all." Archie suggested. He really just wanted to see what the party was all about. Bailey nodded and adjusted her glasses on her slim nose before turning toward him. "Well, how do I look?" "Beautiful," Archie replied without a thought. He had noticed but had forgotten to comment about it because he was thinking about something else he didn't even realize that he was supposed to do. Bailey nodded and scrunched her face when she saw a lot of cars lined up behind Coleman's. "Tommy is such a bully. Why does everyone have to li
8 months later,There is a popular saying; the ship is never afraid of the wind but rather it bends to it and dances to its tune of direction and relief.Trees who don't bend in the wind break. The wind is a pivotal feature of the human life as it is responsible for every occurrence that happens in human life. When you learn to bend, you fit everywhere. When you learn to bend you navigate the wind with your curved hands and control it. Archibald Lockwood has seen the storm, he had dined in the whirlwind and he had learned to embrace the raging tornado and walk inside of it. He learned to toil a dry land and water it with his tears of frustration and discouragement, and sweat of weariness and hunger. When he stood in front of the magnificent building which bore the name *Lockwood Enterprises* he closed his eyes and recounted how he had begun his life up to this moment. It was a different kind of wind,a different kind of struggle at every phase of his life. He smiled, watching the sun
The wedding began around 12:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The venue of the wedding was the family's yard which was filled to the brim with men of high class and caliber. Many of them were Marshall's colleagues from the military, oil and gas moguls, big celebrities and even politicians. It was a dream come true for Bailey, as every eye felt upon her in awe. She'd chosen to wear a lace turtleneck gown and a very transparent veil. There was no doubt that she looked beautiful and that she would be gracing the cover of the biggest wedding magazine in the country for a long time to come. Archie on the other hand was as stunning as ever, very much the desired man any woman would wish to have. He stood tall in his three piece suit, his brown eyes emitting the soft rays of the midday sun. His jet black hair had been dressed and combed to give a gentlemanly appearance. Once the band began to play the piano, Bailey's father took her by the hand and slowly started leading her to the aisle, where Arc
Archie waited for Bailey at the parking lot, feeling his heartbeat with tension and anticipation. He decided to protect his now grown reputation by standing under one of the trees, so that the darkness can shade his presence. A part of him still felt bad about Bailey's parents and how he had to leave them unresponsive. His heart had been clouded with pain, as memories of the ill treatment he had gotten from them reeled in his head. He drew a deep breath and closed his eyes, attempting to relax his taut nerves. This was the beginning of the end, and now that he had been vindicated, there was nothing left for him to think of. He ran his hand over his pocket, the tiny box was still there. When he opened his eyes he saw Bailey in the parking lots, looking around in search for him. “Hey! I'm here,” he called out loudly, waving his hands to catch her attention. She turned around at the sound of his voice, but when she was still not able to get his direction he walked out from under the
When the cameras flashing on Archie increased, he knew that he was already live on television. Every home was tuned into this station, every eye fixated on him.“Hmm,hmm”The throat clearing coughing of the presenter jolted him out of his thoughts. “You said you are who again?” Archie twisted his lips into a smirk as he chuckled lightly. There was sarcasm in the bald headed man's voice. He obviously thought he had come to humiliate himself just as everyone in the world was thinking. He adjusted his sitting position, crossing his legs. “I am Archibald Lockwood. The heir to the Lockwood empire.”The smile on the presenter's face dissipated immediately, becoming replaced with unease, the kind that left his eyes widened, and his jaw agape. Archie could feel the same silence, echoing through the land. The same shock on the presenter's face spread across every face in the land including Bailey's parents' own. It felt good, being a glistening debutante to the world who had undermined him
“Thank you all for being here,” Bailey began, keeping her gaze steady as she stood at the head of the table.. Her father narrowed his eyes. “What’s the point of this meeting, Bailey? You know how we feel about your... decisions.”Ignoring the dismissive tone, Bailey pressed on. “Since I’m taking control of the company. It’s time for a change, and I want to merge with Archie’s business.”The murmurs around the table rose like a tide, disbelief etched across their faces. “You can’t be serious,” her father barked, slamming his hand against the table, causing the coffee cups to rattle. “Archie is beneath us. He doesn’t belong in this world.”“Actually,” Bailey retorted, her voice slicing through the air, “I don’t care about your opinions anymore. I believe in Archie and his vision. He has more integrity than anyone in this room.” She locked eyes with her father, refusing to back down, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “You’re making a mistake,” her mother interjected softly.
“Mom, I’m not about to do anything reckless,” Archie responded, realizing he wasn't going to get through with them; this was something he'll have to do himself. There was no way he would let his step siblings get away with everything they had done they would pay one way or another.Emily’s eyes searched his a bit doubtful he meant what he said. “Archie, I understand your anger, but chasing them won’t bring you peace. You’ve got your life ahead of you. Think about it.” She leaned forward, the tension in her body visible as she reached out, her fingers brushing his arm.“I get it. I’ll keep my head clear.” He forced a smile, a façade he hoped would ease her anxiety. As she turned away, Archie stepped outside, he pulled out his phone and dialed Simon’s number.“Hey, Archie! Everything alright?” Simon’s voice crackled through the line, filled with curiosity.“Not really,” Archie muttered, glancing around to ensure no one was nearby. “I need you to help me keep an eye on my siblings. They’
Archie strode into the office the next morning with an air of command, his footsteps steady against the polished marble floor. The scent of fresh coffee mingled with the leather-bound scent of documents, yet there was something else in the atmosphere- his dominance. He scanned the faces of his employees, his gaze sharp, and his posture upright like a king on his throne. There was no room for forgiveness. With a flick of his wrist, Archie motioned to his assistant. "Gather them," he ordered simply.Soon enough, the ones who had wronged him stood before him. Archie watched them, letting the silence grow thick before he spoke.“Your time here is over,” Archie declared, shocking them.“You can’t just—"Archie raised a hand, palm out, halting him mid-sentence. “This is my company. I decide who stays and who leaves. And none of you deserve to stay.”The others exchanged nervous glances, their bodies tense but none of them.dared speak. One by one, they were led out. As the door clicked shut
The gates of the juvenile home creaked open, and Archie stepped inside, he could already tell the meeting wasn't going to end well as he moved down the narrow corridor. The dull thud of footsteps echoed against the concrete floor. He spotted the living room and his step siblings pacing the room.As he entered his footsteps drew their attention, their eyes locked on him but he didn't flinch, already used to it. There was no warmth, no welcome, just the cold resentment that had festered for years. "Archie," Rhyder’s voice broke the silence, more a statement than a greeting. "Here to play the hero again?"Archie stood still for a moment, his jaw clenched. He could taste the bitterness of the conversation to come, already lingering on his tongue. "I'm not here to save anyone," he finally spoke, keeping his voice even. "Just to hear what's going on."Meg scoffed. "You should know by now. Dad washed his hands of us. Threw us all to the wolves except you right?." Her lips curled, but it was
Murmurs filled the courtroom but no one was able to say anything against her order. They were going to behave exactly the way she had said they should. "I will be waiting for each of them to appear. I have already invited them to the court and we are going to get to the bottom of this issue today once and for all." She announced happily. She was always joyful whenever she had the opportunity to free the oppressed. It was later she got to know Archie's real identity. He wasn't the usual person that she thought he was. He was Marshall's son so she was not surprised by the way he was bold to prove his points. It was only people who had something to hide that would shy away from prosecution. She hoped for his step siblings sake that they did not have a hand in this because she was going to go hard on them and not even Marshall would tell her to stop. They tried to tarnish the young man's image everywhere. There were lots of posters and caricatures made of him as people thought he was
