“Tear that young girl’s heart out and eat it before our eyes,” Amaal bluntly stated. “That is all.”

Shadow’s expression utterly froze.

The knights sitting in their chairs put their hands on their weapons, as if subtly suggesting to him that he should do what Amaal asked of him, or they would attack him.

Shadow didn’t have this in his calculations. He was expecting to be rewarded for his efforts, perhaps, after putting him through another tough battle right before the king’s very eyes, but he surely wasn’t expecting a test of his character to be a part of it.

While Shadow was confident in fighting Amaal alone, he wasn’t sure about fighting the king with all the knights supporting him. If they were to attack him while his focus was on Amaal, he would get wounded and in turn lose the battle. This left Shadow no choice but to use what was probably the best trick up his sleeve.

“You want me to kill an innocent child?” Shadow smiled. “Sure. I’ll gladly do it.”
