“Why do vampires hate humans?” Rye asked Ryan when she was reading books about vampire history. “I just don’t get it. They are faster and stronger than humans. I can understand their lust for blood, but why are they abusing and psychopathically torturing humans? Why be so sadistic and repulsive?”

“That’s because they serve a different master from us,” Rye calmly answered. “We serve the cross. They serve the inverted cross. We serve the one above. They serve the one below. We serve God. They serve the Devil. And their master hates humanity so much he makes humans destroy each other. That’s why he created vampires and made everyone think that vampires were born solely out of human error when he was one who prompted them to cause the error.
