CHAPTER 528

Jane and Steve brought the wounded eagle to a veterinary hospital.

The animal doctor saw the bird and straight away said, “Are you guys coming from the sea shore?”

“Yes, doctor,” Jane was very surprised. “How did you know?”

“Because this isn’t the first time someone brought an injured bird to this place,” the doctor said. “Please put the bird on the desk. Gently.”

Steve put the bird down. As the doctor observed the bird, Steve asked, “Can it fly like before?”

“You brought it quickly, so yes, if we reattach it and keep it still for a few weeks, it should be able to fly,” the doctor said to their relief. “However, it will be forced to put more weight into the other wing for a long time until this broken wing fully heals. If it’s outside in the wilderness, it might not survive.”

“We’ll keep it with us then,” Steve said, and Jane didn’t look all that willing.

The doctor, however, was happy to hear that. “Since you said you’ll keep the bird with you, I’ll do the surgery for free.”
