The late afternoon sun cast a golden hue over the city as Scot and Mia arrived at the gala. The event was intended to be a celebration of local achievements, but today, it felt more like a battleground. The media frenzy outside the venue was palpable, with a crowd of reporters and photographers jostling for the best angle.

Mia squeezed Scot’s hand as they stepped out of the car. “Are you ready for this?” she asked, her voice tinged with a mix of apprehension and determination.

Scot glanced at the throng of cameras and microphones. “Not sure if I’ll ever be ready for this,” he said with a wary smile. “But we have to face it.”
