Scot sat in his office, staring at the spreadsheet in front of him, though his mind was elsewhere. The past few weeks had been relatively calm, but he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something wasn’t right. His thoughts drifted to Mia, wondering what she was doing, but he brushed it off, assuming she was at work or on her way home.

Just as he was about to turn his attention back to his computer, his phone rang. Scot barely glanced at the screen before answering, expecting it to be his assistant with some minor office matter.

“Hello, Scot Frankenstein speaking.”

“Mr. Frankenstein, this is Dr. Williams from St. Matthew’s Hospital. You need to come quickly—Mia has been admitted. She’s... she’s been shot.”
