Fractured Realities

The Chicago skyline wavred like a mirage, reality bending under the strain of the massive rift hovering over Millennium Park. Jaden perched atop the Willis Tower, the wind whipping his clothes as he surveyed the chaos below.

His comm crackled. "You seeing this?" Zoe's voice, tense but controlled.

"Yeah," Jaden replied, eyes fixed on the swirling vortex. "It's like the city's coming apart at the seams."

Marcus chimed in from HQ, his tone clipped. "Energy readings are off the charts. This rift's different – more stable, more... deliberate."

Jaden frowned. "Deliberate how?"

"Like it was opened on purpose," Marcus explained. "From the other side."

A chill ran down Jaden's spine. "Heads up, Zoe. We might have company."

"Fantastic," she muttered. "Because this job wasn't exciting enough already."

Pushing aside his unease, Jaden focused on the task at hand. Shadows coalesced around him, responding to his will. With a thought, he launched himself towards the rift.
