Accusations

The room went quiet immediately when the second bidder, a rich male Ceo of one of the influential companies in the city, known for collecting the most valuable art pieces, raised their paddle confidently, declaring,

"30 million dollars."

Gasps of surprise and awe filled the room. Vanessa, who was happy that no art could out sell hers, couldn't hide the flicker of jealousy in her eyes. She leaned over to Robert and whispered,

"This is absurd. Who would pay that much for Henry's stupid mess?"

Robert, trying to maintain composure, replied, "Well, apparently someone sees the value in stupidity. Let's see how it unfolds."

The auctioneer, picking up on the energy, called out, "30 million dollars! Do I hear 35 million?"

To everyone's astonishment, another renowned art collector known for acquiring only the most valuable and rarest of items confidently raised their paddle, stating, "35 million dollars."

The room buzzed with excitement and disbelief.

Emily, standing beside Henry, exchanged a surprised glance with him. Henry, wearing an expression of sheer amazement, watched as the bidding war unfolded before him.

The auctioneer, angry that his plan to sell Henry's art for a low amount, secretly gnash his teeth.

"35 million dollars! A bid from a connoisseur who recognizes the unparalleled value of this masterpiece. Who will challenge this bid with 40 million?"

Eager to claim this invaluable piece, more than six individuals, each a significant art collector in their own right, began bidding fervently, turning the atmosphere into a tension-filled bid.

The bidding war became a spectacle in itself. Bidders competed with increasingly staggering amounts, and the price of Henry's artwork soared to unimaginable heights.

The room, once filled with whispers of disbelief, erupted into exclamations as the bids climbed past 50 million, then 75 million, and eventually reached the monumental figure of 100 million dollars.

Vanessa, unable to comprehend the escalating bids for what she deemed chaotic brilliance, couldn't resist voicing her discontent. At each attempt a bidder made to outdo the other, Vanessa inserted her snide remarks, trying to trash talk the artwork.

"Really? 100 million for this low mess?" she muttered under her breath, loud enough for those nearby to hear.

Emily chuckled, "Well, who would've thought your low talent could fetch such a price?" She said to her husband

As the bidding reached the unprecedented mark of 100 million dollars, Vanessa's attempts to belittle Henry's artwork grew more desperate.

She turned to Robert, her eyes narrowing with a mix of jealousy and frustration, "Can you believe this, Robert? People are paying a fortune for that disaster."

Robert, torn between loyalty and the reality of the situation, replied, "Art is subjective, Vanessa. Clearly, there's something about it that speaks to them."

Undeterred, Vanessa continued her disparaging remarks, "I wouldn't pay a dime for that. It's just a disappointment on canvas."

The auctioneer, sensing the tension, declared, "100 million dollars! A 'nice' bid for Henry Brown's masterpiece. Going once, going twice..."

Just as the gavel was about to fall, Vanessa couldn't resist one final attempt to downplay the significance of the moment.

"Good luck with your overpriced mess," she muttered.

Just as the gavel was poised to fall, a commanding voice cut through the tension. "300 million dollars!"

Gasps rippled through the room as everyone turned to identify the bidder. The one who had just thrown this staggering sum into the mix was none other than Mr. Thornton, the man who was dressed in a white suit and had previously criticized a lot of artwork that evening except Henry's art.

Henry, standing on the stage, couldn't believe his ears.

Emily's eyes widened in astonishment, and even Vanessa, momentarily forgetting her envy, joined the collective gasp.

The bid had tripled in an instant, setting a new standard for the value of Henry's chaotic brilliance.

The auctioneer, trying to regain composure, acknowledged Mr. Thornton's bid. "300 million dollars! An extraordinary bid from Mr. Thornton. Going once, going twice…"

Before the gavel could complete its descent, it became evident that Mr. Thornton's bid was unrivaled.

The room erupted into a mix of awe and applause, acknowledging the historic moment. Henry's artwork had just been sold for an astronomical sum, shattering all previous records.

As Mr. Thornton approached the stage to claim his acquisition, he extended a congratulatory hand to Henry.

"Young man, your work is a masterpiece. It deserves a place of honor. Like I told you earlier, I still intend to display it in a national museum for all to marvel at."

"Never knew the nation's art museum has a special thing for disasters," Robert gave a calm remark from the crowd.

Henry, still in shock, managed a grateful smile. "Thank you, Mr. Thornton. I'm honored beyond words."

Meanwhile, Emily, ashamed of her previous behavior towards Henry, couldn't help but bask in the pride of her husband's success.

And even Vanessa couldn't help but acknowledge the magnitude of the moment.

However, the celebratory atmosphere was about to take an unexpected turn.

Just as Mr. Thornton continued to praise Henry's talent, and a man burst into the hall, shouting at the top of his voice.

"Stop! That art is a fake! Henry Brown, you're a fraud!"

The room fell into a stunned silence as everyone turned to face the intruder. The man, disheveled and agitated, pointed accusingly at Henry.

"I'm the true artist here, and he stole my idea! That painting is a forgery!"

Disbelief and whispers filled the hall as the unexpected accusation hung in the air.

Henry, bewildered, tried to make sense of the situation.

Emily's supportive gaze turned into a mix of concern and confusion.

Mr. Thornton, who moments ago had been praising Henry, now wore a skeptical expression. "What is the meaning of this? Explain yourself," he demanded.

The accuser, with a triumphant sneer, declared, "I have proof!"

He reached into a satchel and pulled out an identical painting to Henry's masterpiece.

"This is my original work. Henry Brown copied it shamelessly!"

Vanessa, seizing the opportunity to throw a hateful remark, couldn't resist adding fuel to the fire.

"Well, Henry, it seems your art has a doppelganger. I always knew everything about you is a disappointment. How does it feel to be exposed as a copycat?"
