With a swift swipe, his sharp combat knife sliced across the Sky Scourge's thick hide, carving a flesh wound. However, the damage barely registered, the cut appearing as nothing more than a thin red line against the creature’s hardened, almost armor-like skin. Maverick grimaced. His strength was too low to deal any real damage to the mutant monster, and every strike felt futile.

The realization came fast, but Maverick acted faster. Using his knife’s failed slash as a distraction, he drove his foot into the creature's flank with all his might, propelling himself backward through sheer force. The momentum launched him several feet away, giving him just enough room to raise his gun. Without hesitation, he squeezed the trigger, firing two shots midair, both aimed squarely at the Sky Scourge's exposed neck.

Roarrrrrr!

The beast roared in fury and pain, its massive head snapping toward Maverick. The bullets had struck true, puncturing its neck and causing dark, viscous blood to ooze from th

“We are thinking of dividing into two groups,” Jennifer replied to him calmly. She immediately briefed Maverick on their next move, making him understand their plan. Jennifer was a secretary before the apocalypse; therefore, her communication and planning skills were top-notch, which was also one of the reasons Max made her one of the leaders of the group. Moreover, she was fair and beautiful to look at. Although no one had dared to act on their desires yet, perhaps it was due to her being stronger than an ordinary human, or maybe due to the stress of the apocalypse, no one had the time to consider such things.“We've decided that the first group of us should roam the floors below in search of survivors, while the other group of us should lead the stronger and braver survivors to head to the upper floors and get rid of the zombies there. This will increase the floors we can roam during our time here and at the same time save any survivors we meet,” Jennifer explained calmly without pa

1:50 PMThe sun bore down relentlessly on the deserted street, its rays glinting off the dried blood splattered across the tarred road. The heat only worsened the foul stench emanating from the corpses scattered around. The smell was both nauseating and revolting, as decomposing bodies and putrid bodily fluids filled the air with a sickening odor. Any normal human unaccustomed to such sights would struggle to keep their stomach contents down.Burnt and blackened cars were piled up against each other like pieces in a game of Tetris, forming an almost impenetrable blockade across the street. Zombies roamed aimlessly, their vacant eyes and jerky movements adding to the eeriness of the scene. Many of the buildings had been reduced to rubble by nuclear strikes, but a few remained standing, though barely. Their doors and windows were tightly shut, a clear sign that survivors were likely hiding within, hoping to avoid detection.Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat!The oppressive silence was abruptly sh

Without wasting time, the captain rose from his chair and made his way toward the house. Seeing him coming, the woman mistook Jim for soldiers sent to rescue them and immediately opened the door to welcome him in.As soon as he entered, the door was shut close, and it wasn’t up to a minute before the scream of a woman echoed from the house, followed by the grunting of a man mixed with the slapping of flesh. The sounds spread across the street. The other survivors, observing from their houses, were confused about what was happening. Perhaps they knew but were puzzled as to why it was happening at such a time. However, they weren’t left in the dark for long as the other nine members rushed toward the other houses where survivors were inside. Even the ladies among the mercenaries rushed toward houses with married couples, searching for their own enjoyment.---The dark yellow cloud above the sky slowly blocked the sun’s rays from landing on the earth as if protecting it from seeing the t

“Fuck that rotten fat big pervert of a man! Where is he?” As soon as Judy heard of him, she snarled in anger and headed straight towards the door to his room, bashing at it and trying to force her way inside. However, she was stopped by Jennifer.“Don't,” Jennifer said calmly.“I didn’t add Isaac as part of the team because I knew he couldn’t be of help. You could have come to me if you were tired,” Max berated. Annoyed, he grabbed a key and headed straight towards Isaac’s door. With a swipe, he unlocked the door and looked inside.“He’s not inside,” Max said.“That rotten motherfucker! He must have died within the zombies or maybe even run away!” Judy cursed.Meanwhile, a bit further away, Maverick leaned against the wall, cleaning his blade while listening to their conversation with a nonchalant expression.“He’s such an asshole!” Cain mumbled, folding his muscular arms across his chest in annoyance.“What’s happening?” The survivors, who hadn’t opened their doors or were maybe deep

“He was scratched by a zombie, destined to die. Why prolong it?” Maverick’s voice carried a chilling calmness, devoid of any trace of humanity. His expression was equally barren, as if the life he had just taken wasn’t human but some bothersome insect buzzing too close.“Who the hell do you think you are?!” Judy’s voice erupted, trembling with fury as her face flushed crimson. “You think just because you’re stronger and have a gun, you get to decide who lives and who dies?!”Maverick tilted his head slightly, almost mockingly. “As a matter of fact, yes,” he replied, his voice still unsettlingly even. Without hesitation, he raised his gun again, pointing its muzzle directly at Judy. His finger rested on the trigger, steady and deliberate. The room froze. Judy’s breath hitched as her anger clashed with fear. Her hands clenched into tight fists, trembling from the sheer effort of holding herself back. Hatred smoldered in her eyes—raw, unfiltered, and directed solely at Maverick. But desp

Hearing his words, Maverick nodded inwardly in acknowledgment but didn't say anything as he headed for the locked door leading downstairs.“Are you going out?”“Yeah, to grind for energy points,” Maverick said without looking back, shutting the door as he stepped out from the 40th floor. His main objective for now was to clear the garage since he had already cleared the floors, leaving only the garage.Heading towards the door leading to the garage, Maverick was careful since the door linking the garage to the 1st floor was the only one, and it wouldn't be good if he attracted a large number of zombies that could surround him, making it impossible to escape back to the single door. So, he made sure to check around the first floor first before heading towards the garage, just to be sure there were no zombies in sight. His caution paid off as he spotted a few zombies, which he easily hacked to death. During the killing, their roars attracted two more zombies, which he also disposed of e

Maverick's muscles were transforming, growing tougher and stronger, both internally and externally. His senses were heightened, too - he suddenly felt like he could see dirt in the air with precision, watching as the tiny particles danced around him. Even his hearing had become more acute, picking up on the faintest sounds. With a deep breath, Maverick clenched his fist, feeling the surge of power course through his veins. He knew that taking down 100 men at once would be child's play with his newfound strength. His gaze drifted toward the zombies shuffling in the distance, but his attention was diverted by a dusty Lexus parked beside him.Maverick's eyes narrowed, his fist tightening into a formidable hammer. With a quick spin, he unleashed a devastating punch, aiming straight for the car's bonnet. Bang! Then, in an instant, Maverick's knuckles made contact with the metal, unleashing a deafening crash that echoed off the garage walls. The sound wave rippled through the air, echoing

Even with Maverick cutting through over 400 zombies, leaving rivers of blood and piles of shredded flesh in his wake, the numbers showed no sign of diminishing. Instead, they seemed to multiply, swarming toward him from every corner of the city. The thick smell of blood and decaying flesh in the garage mixed with the dense, yellowish radiation mist, creating an atmosphere of pure chaos. At first, Maverick had assumed only zombies within a 200-meter radius would be drawn to the commotion. But the ceaseless increase in their numbers told a different story. Something was calling them, pulling them toward this death trap. Was it the overpowering scent of spilled blood? Or was it the radiation mist amplifying their primal hunger?"No," Maverick muttered to himself, slicing through the jaw of an advancing zombie, splitting its head in two with sickening precision. "Zombies don’t have the intelligence to communicate." He discarded the thought but couldn’t shake the unsettling feeling that th

"Are these all the people who want to leave with us?" Maverick asked, his eyes sweeping over the seven standing before him—a young woman and a man who seemed like lovers or relatives, a middle-aged man, three young women, and two other men.It was a decent number. Maverick didn’t want to take on too much baggage. His gaze shifted to the fourteen people who had chosen to stay behind. Without a word, he looked at Max and gave a small nod before stepping back.Understanding Maverick’s unspoken command—letting him speak since the group feared Maverick rather than respected him—Max stepped forward, cleared his throat, and addressed the crowd.“We’re leaving, but we’re not taking much of the food. You’ll have to decide how to split it amongst yourselves."But before we go, this is my final question—are you sure you don’t want to come with us? 1st POV:I remember the morning so clearly, as if it happened just moments ago. I was in the driver’s seat, hands gripping the steering wheel, humming a soft tune as my boys sat in the backseat, arguing over which cartoon was better. I told them to quiet down, that I had surgery later today and needed a clear head. They groaned in unison, calling me boring. I remember smiling, watching them through the rearview mirror—two little sparks of life, my entire world. Then, the sky erupted.A blinding light swallowed the road ahead, a wave of heat tearing through the world like an angry god had decided to erase us. The ground trembled, glass shattered, and the sound—God, the sound—was unlike anything I had ever heard. My ears rang as metal twisted and screeched. The car flipped. My body slammed against the seatbelt. Darkness consumed me.When I woke up, I was on the ground, dust and smoke filling my lungs. My head pounded, my vision blurred, but through it all, I could hear my boys crying. M

While Maverick lay unconscious on the ground inside the underground lab side, Dorian who Maverick thought will die the moment he stepped out staggered through the ruined cityscape, his left arm clutching his bleeding side. Burnt-out cars lined the cracked road, their husks melted and twisted, remnants of the world before the apocalypse. Seeing this, a glint flash through Dorian's eyes as a knife flashed, slicing through its throat. It gurgled, collapsing, only for another to crawl out from under a wrecked truck. • Chapter 83: Maverick injecting the nanocells

Maverick thought inwardly, imagining how the system will sound if he open it logically. With a sharp click, the latches disengaged.Maverick barely had time to react before an icy fog erupted from the opening seam, spilling out in thick waves. Instinctively —he shoved himself backward, one hand reaching for his gun as he eyed the mist warily fearing it will be a poisonous fog. His breath slowed down visibly in the sudden temperature drop, the frost creeping over the edges of the case. For a tense moment, nothing happened. Then, as quickly as it had appeared, the fog began to dissipate, revealing the contents inside. The interior of the case was pristine white, lined with soft, impact-absorbing foam that molded around a single object at its center—a sealed tube, roughly eight inches tall and four inches wide. The material was reinforced glass, its surface covered in a thin layer of condensation.Inside the tube, a shimmering, light-blue liquid sloshed gently, moving almost unnaturally,

No?”Maverick’s words hung in the air, but Dorian wasn’t listening. Not really. His breathing was ragged, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles cracked. His eyes burned—not just from the flames licking at his skin but from the seething fury that boiled beneath the surface."You think this is over?" Dorian growled, blood dripping from his clenched teeth. "You think you've won?"Maverick tilted his head, unimpressed. "I mean… yeah? I’ve got the briefcase, you’re bleeding like a gutted pig from maybe seemingly over using of your flame power, and you’re about to die from my gun. Pretty clear-cut, don’t you think?"Dorian ignored him. "You will regret this. Whatever’s in that briefcase—it won’t save you, rather it will bring more chaos to your life. Maverick exhaled, rolling his shoulders as he eyed Dorian with that same indifferent gaze—like a man sizing up a particularly unimpressive meal. Dorian, on the other hand, was all heat and fire, his smirk thinning as he took a slow step forward, flames licking at his knuckles."You look tense, Captain," Maverick mused, dodging a jab without even looking. "Maybe it’s the stress of command. Maybe it’s the unresolved childhood trauma. Or maybe it’s just because you're used to throwing punches at people who can’t hit back."Dorian’s eye twitched, but he didn't respond. He knew Maverick was just trying to get under his nerves which he wouldn't allow.Another flaming fist cut through the air. Maverick leaned back, dodging by mere inches, his movements infuriatingly lazy."You always this sloppy?" Maverick muttered. • Chapter 80: Breaking his words (Warrior VS Soldier)

Technically, for the Captain to be able to ignite fire using his hands or body is something no one will ever believe in the past era, after all, humans, infact, living things weren't engineered to do such thing but here he is with fire burning from his arms and legs. For such a thing to happen, it begins with a shift deep within his cellular structure, a silent, invisible transformation. His body had developed an extraordinary ability to absorb and harness radiation—particularly, high-frequency electromagnetic radiation, like gamma rays the moment he absorbed a certain fire related beast core. This wasn't just a fluke mutation; it was the result of an intricate biological adaptation. The cells, rather than breaking down under the stress of radiation exposure, began to store the energy in a specialized organelle, a modified version of mitochondria that was now a fusion of bio-organic material and quantum-activated nanomatter, main reason he doesn't care about wearing mask. As these
