While Ray went off to take his call, Ella as well was having a call with someone, though it doesn’t seem like a pleasant one.

The call had ended pretty quickly and Ella couldn’t help but sigh wearingly.

“Well, news nowadays travels faster, thanks to the internet. Now how do I tell everyone that I was rejected.”

Right after saying this, she could see Ray approaching her.

“Alright, let’s go.” Ray said as he opened the door of the car.

“Where.. are we going?” Ella was dumbfounded.

“I thought we’re meant to see your parents. You know,… after the big announcement you made.” He replied.

“Wait, you’re not rejecting me?!” Ella exclaimed.

“Why will I reject you? You know, you seem kind of odd around me lately, I thought you were going to threaten me to marry you. But your actions to me so far,… it doesn’t seem like the lady from this morning who kept on calling me a scum.”

“Ahah, that morning, I was a little bit frightened and shocked. So I must have lashed out at you harshly. I’m usually a loveable person.” Ella said, though it was partly true.

The main truth is that, after learning of Ray’s real identity, she has been showing him so much respect since then.

Perhaps she might have even fallen for him considering how she had offered to be married to him.

She heard of how Ray was humiliated by the Monroe’s family. And how they had refused his engagement with Grace.

After learning of these, she had decided to grab this chance since the two had recently had a thing together, also because she didn’t want to get married to an old and already married man.

At first, she thought Ray was going to reject her, but seeing how he had offered to visit her parents, she felt relieved that she wasn’t getting rejected.

The only problem was how she would convince her stepmother into marrying another guy different from the one she introduced to her.

Moments after the two went inside the car, they had driven out of the premises. And it didn’t take long for them to get to their destination.

During their journey, Ella had explained everything about her stepmother to Ray. How his mum had died and later on, his dad had married his step mother. Only for him to die years after.

He has many establishments, those among which her stepmother was currently the director of the company. Though Lisa already had two children, a son and a daughter before she married Paul Queen. She had none for paul till he died.

So, when the will was written, he granted 90% of his properties to Ella, while the remaining 10% was an apartment where Helen and her children lived, and a company that she was managing.

Although she didn’t show it to Ella, she knew her stepmother held a great grudge against her and her father for being partial in his distribution of wealth.

Though, in the written will, there was a clause. And that was for Ella to get married before she could access any of her father’s property. Not even his multiple mansions or companies.

She had her own company, and her father knew that. That’s why she wanted her to marry. But not just anyone, it should be someone she loved. So in case she felt burdened by any of his company, she could always entrust them to her husband.

However, over the years, she hadn’t been able to find a husband. She would go to countless blind dates, only for it to become futile.

Things might be good during the blind date, but the next day, they would all refuse to marry her due to countless unreasonable excuses.

It has been almost a year since her father had died, and it was stated in the will that if Ella wasn’t able to marry within a year of her father’s demise, 40% of his properties will be given to Helen, while the remaining 50% will be evenly distributed among the other family members of Paul. Leaving Ella with plainly nothing.

Out of desperation, she had decided to ask Helen for help, and in turn she had offered her to marry her brother, who was already old and married with two wives.

She had refused at first but her company happened to be facing a huge crisis of debt after the manager ran off with the company’s fund.

The multiple companies that were working under her had started withdrawing after the huge breakdown in business, leaving her with more debts.

She has reached the limit of what she could borrow in bank, and she didn’t want her debt to keep on piling up. So, out of her need for money, she had agreed to marry the old man.

The wedding date has been set, and two days before the day, Ella had decided to visit a hotel for a business proposition. She had met up with Ray at the bar of the hotel, and that was where the thing between them had occurred.

Exiting out of the car, the two had started heading into the large mansion belonging to Helen, Ella’s stepmother.

They were directed into the dining room where five adults could be seen awaiting their arrival.

The people include, Helen, her two children; Harry and Lisa.

“Hello everyone, sorry for keeping you waiting.” Ella apologised as she approached the chair to seat. But before that she had to introduce Ray to all of them.

“Also, this is Ray Smith, he offered to marry me after learning of my situation.” She said before gesturing for Ray to sit beside her.

Helen looked as emotionless as ever. There wasn’t a single expression on her face which made it hard for anyone to guess what she was thinking.

“I thought we already have a wedding in motion, why is this thing here?” Helen eventually spoke up, humiliating Ray with her first sentence.

This was what Ella feared, her stepmother won’t just outright accept Ray, since Harry was a family of hers.

What she feared most was a competition rising up between the two. Where only the winner would be allowed to marry her. She wondered if Ray would be able to win.
