CHAPTER 13

As we continued through the maze of the old ruins, I felt both nervous and excited. It felt like the air was really heavy, like a blanket. The walls seemed to be moving closer to us and they appeared to be very old. They had seen a lot and kept a lot of secrets.

Sarah held my hand tightly as we walked through the twisting passageways and secret rooms underground. Her fingers shook a little. She looked around anxiously, worried about anything dangerous hiding in the dark.

"It's really quiet," Emily said quietly, almost whispering as we walked with soft footsteps. She leaned forward with her shoulders and looked tense because she was worried about what was going to happen.

I agreed and felt more alert as we kept exploring the ruins. Every noise sounded louder and every shadow looked strange and grew long, like they were moving at the edges of what I could see.
