Chapter 1

"How did this happen?"

Shawn continued to play with his fingers. Occasionally, he tapped them on the table in front of him. Waiting made Shawn feel uncomfortable, even to the point of creeping into his chest.

Today, Shawn really didn't want to be in this place. Starbucks was too crowded for him. What's more, since earlier many people came and went from this place. Even having a little coffee in front of him didn't make Shawn feel any better. However, the phone call he received last night was so disturbing to his mind that he couldn't help but sit here now.

Shawn looked down, contemplating with his mind spinning. "My brain feels frozen. How am I supposed to think clearly about this? Damn it! What the hell is going on?"

Shawn's feet went up and down, unsettled by the situation. Now and then, he glanced over to see who was coming. "If it's an imposter, I'm going to hit him right away. It doesn't matter who he is."

How could Shawn not be uneasy? Last night she suddenly got a call from a woman named Rachel, who claimed to have been fucked by Shawn a month ago while returning home from a Queens bar. The woman forced Shawn to take responsibility, or else she would act recklessly and ruin Shawn's life.

Shawn didn't believe her at first, but after she told him some personal things, he ended up waiting for her right now in this place.

Restless, Shawn tapped her fingers on the table, growing impatient with the wait. "Where is she? It's already more than 30 minutes late. Does she want to set me up? Or does she want something else from me?"

Several people started whispering when a woman in a suit walked in.

"So pretty!"

"Is she a model?"

"No, she looks like the director of a company!"

The woman with long, wavy, glossy hair walked confidently toward Shawn's place. The sunglasses she wore covered her beautiful eyes. She was the woman Shawn had been waiting for.

"So she's the one." Unconsciously, Shawn got up from his seat and greeted the woman. He extended his hand. "Were you the one who called me last night?"

Instead of returning Shawn's handshake, Rachel pulled back the chair and sat on it. Showing great dominance in front of Shawn.

A sense of unease drifted into Shawn's mind after getting a 'warm' welcome from this beautiful woman.

Whispers of men looking enviously at Shawn began to ring in Shawn's ears. It was quiet, but the voices sounded annoying.

"Who is that guy?"

"Why did that beautiful woman go to him? I'm better looking than him."

"Shut up, asshole!" cursed Shawn in his mind. This situation was not something they should look at with envy. The doubt in Shawn's heart that flared up made him sensitive.

Shawn sat back down, the two of them now facing each other. Rachel took off her sunglasses with no smile at all. She threw her sunglasses on the table and immediately put her right hand on the table. She tapped her fingers constantly, like counting according to clockwork.

Shawn felt an uncomfortable air when dealing with her, making his brows furrow as he looked at the beautiful woman in front of him. "You called me to this place. Is what you said last night true?"

Rachel raised one eyebrow. "Did waiting half an hour make you this fierce?"

Rachel's sharp words made the muscles under Shawn's eyes throb. Had Shawn really slept with a woman like this?

"I don't really know what you're getting at, but regarding the incident a month ago, can you explain to me why it's important?" Shawn asked hesitantly.

"You want to know?" Rachel took out a document and placed it on the table, facing Shawn. "Read it!"

Shawn furrowed her brow and picked up the document. The writing on the document had a script that he couldn't read, but the logo on the document was from a hospital. Instantly, Shawn's ears perked up. His heart was racing. Shawn asked, "What is this?"

Raising her face slightly, Rachel answered. "An examination letter from Yunhai City First Hospital."

Shawn furrowed her brows. "What does this have to do with me?"

Rachel crossed her tall legs and folded her arms in front of her chest. "I'm pregnant, and you're the father of this child."

Shawn was instantly wide-eyed with the news that had just come through her ears. He almost choked on the coffee he was drinking. It was hard for Shawn to believe. "Wh-what did you just say?"

Shawn leaned back slightly, doubting the testimony of the woman in front of her. Seeing that doubt, Rachel picked up another document and handed it to Shawn. Shawn's sweaty hands accepted the document.

Thoughts of deception kept coming to Shawn's mind. The woman in front of him might have been someone with bad intentions.

Shawn read the document slowly, even though his mind was not at ease. He frowned again. "Contract?"

Rachel replied, "Yes. A marriage contract. You will be my husband and will be registered as the father of the baby I am carrying. You will get alimony every month."

Shawn shook his head slightly and gave a doubtful grin. "No, I'm not. How can you be sure that I'm the father? How can there be alimony in this contract?"

Rachel slightly narrowed her eyes but then lowered her crossed legs, giving off a greater aura of dominance. "If you are not sure, we can do a DNA test after the baby is born. Of course, I will compensate you if the child is not proven to be yours. Right now, I just want your decision to take responsibility and accept the contract I'm offering."

Shawn caught her breath to keep her heart from rebelling. Rachel's words had a tremendous shock effect.

Rachel explained again. "The contract says that you will marry me. Then, you will be the father of this child. You don't have to worry about finances because I will give it to you. If the child proves not to be yours, then I will give you 5 million as compensation. Isn't that not a bad offer? Please give me your decision soon."

Shawn lowered his head slightly as he contemplated the contract. It seemed very strange and dubious to him. Shawn continued to think. He knew that the woman in front of him was very beautiful, but all of this was very odd. Even his head was starting to hurt from all the confusion.

Rachel was so beautiful and charming that Shawn had nothing to lose by marrying her. However, becoming a father at such a young age and a husband would change his life. Getting married was not an easy decision.

In the middle of his musings, Shawn heard an unfamiliar voice.

[Ding!]

"Choose one of the options: accept the contract or refuse with compensation."

Shawn felt his hair stand up when he heard that in his head. When he tried to raise his head, he heard the voice again.

[Ding!]
