While the feat doesn’t seem to be something hard to do, it’s still rather impressive that someone can recall their introductions and sort them out with their seat numbers rather than their introduction order, as he pointed out who was who.
Nia was the first one to voice out her admiration. "Oho~? You remember us already, sensei?" She snickered. This new teacher of theirs had taken her interest already.
"More or less, Mori-chan," the brunet grinned brightly, 'and this one has nearly the same vibe as Morgan. Dang, and here I thought hearing Perry’s laughter was bad enough.'
"Ano, Sagara-sensei?" Sky blue met pairs of brown eyes that smiled softly.
"Yes, Zane-kun?"
"Are you... also an agent?" The boy timidly asked. After all, with how calm the brunet is upon the whole event and his timing on the situation, it's only likely that there would be special agents alike to be the new teachers here, right?
Yet to his surprise, the brunet shook his head. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm nothing that fancy, Zane-kun. My current occupation is your Home Economics teacher, and that is all!"
"Current?" The teen noticed while Heath chuckled.
"I mean, seeing how you guys are studying here while at the same time training to off this guy, it wouldn't be weird if I picked up a habit or two myself, no~? Who knows what my future holds~" He said it in a joking manner, despite how his eyes twinkled at Perry.
Zane could have sworn that the new teacher's eyes flashed amber in that split moment.
"Guffawfufufu~ this isn't enlisted in the contract, but I guess there'll be no harm in letting another fish in this school." The target taunted back with smugness decorating face could be seen.
"Such a warm welcome. I hope you won't be regretting that, Perry-sensei~" Heath replied, his eyes forming into crescent moons.
Clearly, he's been spending too much time with barbari– ahem, loyal, caring, and kind comrades.
After that, the students began to ask more questions of the brunet. From the innocent ones, such as his favorite sweets, the sports he likes, and his hobbies, to the personal ones, like whether he's seeking someone.
He promptly answered most of the questions, though some of them were left behind as he swiftly changed the topic they were currently on.
All in all, they spent the homeroom period getting to know each other until the bell rang.
"Well, then minna~ I'll be seeing you tomorrow at class then."
"See you tomorrow, Sagara-sensei!" They chirped as he grinned, waving as he left the room with Lilian.
"They're such a nice bunch," the brunet commented with a fond smile.
"Rather rowdy, though, but you handled them fairly well," Lillian hummed, rather impressed by his social skills.
'Rumors say that he’s a wimpy teacher with a lot of troublesome background?' Troublesome as in his weak demeanor has caused disruptions in the main building due to how many times the class he taught went haywire even with him, as a teacher, present.
Lillian couldn’t help but question to herself the credibility of that report because, to her right now, those notes about him are far off the mark.
The brunet is much more perceptive and adaptable to the situation. Not once has the black-haired agent witnessed the shorter male panic despite all of the abnormalities displayed. Not to mention his eyes.
In front of an oddity such as Perry, she was expecting him to freak out. To be honest, she’s not agreeing with the chairman’s decision in the slightest as it would only make her job harder. But to see those unwavering eyes, which didn't waver in the slightest as he casually accepted the situation, Lilian couldn't help but feel a sense of respect tinged with suspicion.
‘Is he truly just a teacher? Not any kind of underground professional in disguise or something?’ The agent couldn't help but feel wary of this newcomer. She didn't realize that she had been staring until Heath remarked on it.
"You know, if you keep looking at me that way, someone will misunderstand, Lilian-san," the brunet teased, making the raven clear her throat in slight embarrassment over getting caught.
"Sorry. It was not my intention to stare," she said, gazing away while the brunet simply chuckled.
"No harm done. I know that you're curious. I do have quite an effect. So rest assured, you're not the only one," he winked before making his way towards the teacher's lounge, while Lilian stopped dead in her tracks, slightly baffled.
"The heck?" He could hear the agent mumble, fueling his bemusement as he entered the room.
Empty.
The room was empty, and for once, after a long while since his arrival in this new world, Heath had the whole room to himself. Not feeling the need to put up his mask with no audience around, his smile dropped a little.
Those students.
"To think that the government would accept that kind of deal and resort to grooming those children into assassins... just what the heck goes on in their minds?" The thought had been bothering him ever since he heard about it earlier.
This decision was incredibly foolish and rushed. They're basically assigning civilians to handle a massive bomb capable of destroying half the planet on their own. It's essentially a suicide mission, no other way to put it.
"Despicable people," he muttered.
Their agreement brought back painful memories of how he first met Draven, who essentially became Heath's younger brother and was the youngest within their inner circle after the tragedy had been resolved. Draven, who was just a very young kid from an assassin household, had been assigned a mission to assassinate the prince in hiding. At that time, Heath was believed to be under the protection of Zephyr, one of the strongest warriors alive, making it an almost suicidal task.
The striking similarities between these stories made his blood boil. He couldn't help but feel enraged at these irresponsible adults who used children as if they were nothing more than pawns to manipulate.
Heath reached for his forehead, massaging his temple in distress.
‘It's fine, it’s fine. The situation here can still get better, while Draven… well, it’s all in the past…’
Furthermore, it’s a past that’s especially untouchable now that he’s no longer in that world. Therefore, he can only console himself with encouraging words.
"They're free now and no longer in pain…"
Although they might not be, he certainly was— well, debatable.
While the place was indeed peaceful, the silence was rather unsettling for him, as he was used to chatter and chaos. Honestly, maybe that’s why Class I-9 felt like home.
With a soft, disdainful smile, Heath gazed out of the window at the clear sky above as an inaudible whisper escaped his lips, voicing his aching heart out.
"I miss them…”
Fighting back a sigh, Heath stared out the window at the clear sky above. ‘How peaceful,’ he noted, yet he couldn’t bring himself to enjoy the calming atmosphere. And just like that, as if jinxing himself, the silence was broken by someone talking right next to his ear. "Hmm, what's with the long face, Heath-kun?" Upon turning his head, Heath found an unsettling grin suddenly only a few inches from his face. ‘This punk—’ That prince didn't flinch, as he was quite used to ambushes in his previous life, but his brow did twitch for another reason. “Maa, Perry-kun~” He piped in response. “Please don’t invade my personal space if you want to live,” Heath said, delivering a casual threat with a mirroring grin. “Oops, right right. Sorry!” The mutant took a step back, raising his hands in a playful surrender, while the brunet shook his head bemusedly. On one hand, the former prince was used to sneak attacks from both friends and foes. On the other hand, his co-worker wickedly reminde
"Hen-Hen?" Heath arched a brow when he saw his cousin waiting for him as he reached the main road. "Yo!" the blond greeted before they both walked back to Henko's apartment. Their way home was rather uneventful, marked only by light chattering. This was how Henko perceived their trip. Meanwhile, Heath took advantage of the situation, attempting to glean more information about his parallel self's old daily life from his talkative cousin. Through his efforts, he did manage to gather some basic information and cross-referenced it with what he knew from his previous life. One noteworthy match was the names of his parents and a few others from his family tree. Despite differences in surname and social status, the core element aligned. This made him wonder if there were other similar facts that could be uncovered if he persisted in his inquiries. Before he knew it, they were back at the comfort of their humble abode, preparing a meal for their dinner. "So, do you feel at home in your ne
"Oi, Heath?" "Yes, Hen-Hen?" The brunet smiled innocently as the blond, annoyed with his companion, stared at him. "Where did you get that fedora?" "Oh, this?" Heath tipped the said item down, "I made it. Neat, isn't it~?" He grinned. Just like the birthday gift he made for his father figure, he recreated an exact copy to honor his mentor. "—NeAt iSn'T iT?" Henko mocked before sighing, "And just with what money did you use to buy the materials?" He won't even bother asking how this clumsy Kirby was even able to make something so high class without injuring himself. "Oh, I didn't need to buy anything. You already had an old, unused fedora in your drawer, gathering dust all alone in the sad corner. So I took it, used that as the base, and added some things here and there. Now, voila~!" "Voila, my ass! How the fuck did you make such a fancy hat so neatly?" Heath chuckled over his cousin’s freak outs, “Technically I didn’t make it, just reused it, but meh, Potato - Tomato, right?”
Heath hummed to himself as he flipped through more pages of the files in his current possession. In the name of collecting data about his new environment, Heath had observed their target the entire day before proceeding to ask both Perry and Lillian if they had any additional information on each and every student of I-9. After all, above all else, he was now a teacher. So, rather than focusing on his mutant co-worker, his primary attention should be on the students’ development. With that in mind, Heath carefully examined each file, paying close attention to every student's record. He reviewed their accomplishments, acknowledged their difficulties, and tried to understand what made each of them special. In his new role, Heath wasn't just keeping track of facts; he was also making initial notes on how to assist these young students in growing and succeeding in their futures. Regarding that, quite surprisingly, through the short observation, Heath discovered that the mutant had a few
"Pfft— BAHAHAHAHA what's with that apron?" Kian laughed as he saw the brunet's newly added attire, which clashed with Heath's already-questionable choice of clothing. "Maa~ don't you think it's sort of cute, Kianichy? I made them myself~" Yet, instead of feeling offended, the former royalty just grinned, hand in hip after putting down the fourth tray on the table. The home economics teacher actually felt rather proud of this project he’s wearing. After all, the decoration on his apron, while it might look rather silly, was meaningful to him since he added it to honor his parents. His mother always loved to wear frilly dresses when she could, and an embroidery of a lion honored his father, who used to be called The Young Lion during his reign. He knew that it's not good to drown in sorrow. So at the very least, he wanted to keep the memories dear and wear things that would prevent him from ever forgetting his regret. “Now, now, before we can start the class, I made some treats for y
Putting aside the initial shock caused by the uproar at the beginning of the class, everyone could now see how Heath was not only a prominent teacher but also an excellent cook.‘It’s quite amazing just how efficient Sensei is,’ Zane couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. There wasn't a single wasted moment. Moreover, the brunet displayed the patience of a saint, as evidenced by his tolerance for Zara’s clumsiness, Lia’s never-ending questions, and even Perry’s constant disruptions. It was surprising how unflappable he remained.Actually, that last part left Zane slightly baffled. “I thought the class would end up in disaster…”“I know right? I’m just as surprised,” Jitsuo expressed his astonishment. After the previous incident, the brunet eventually approached the sulking homeroom teacher, presenting a fresh batch of cupcakes, ones that were still in the oven, as compensation for what had transpired. Perry dubbed this as the only correct way to apologize after such a tragic prank.
"Enjoying yourself, Perry-sensei?" that brunet inquired as he walked towards the figure seated on the field, a gentle breeze brushed past them both. The said figure grinned in response, "Yep, as always~"With a stem of dandelion tucked behind his ear for some reason, Perry patted the ground next to him, inviting the home economic teacher to sit with him. The two were relaxing, and there was even this peaceful aura around the mutant."I was wondering why the kiddos were getting more energetic in the middle of their routine, well now I know why~" Heath chuckled as he glanced at the homeroom teacher while laying down a picnic carpet before lowering the basket he brought along."It's so hard to be such a motivational figure," Perry playfully complained.Heath shook his head, bemused, then took his seat. "I'm not even going to dispute that. The students adore you."To which, Perry replied with mirrored grace, "I can say the same with you, Heath-kun." That homeroom teacher was sincere howe
"Should we… be worried that those two are hitting it off this well?" Jitsuo sweatdropped. He was among the few students demoted to this class rank due to a drastic decline in his scores rather than bad behavior, just like some of his peers. By now, no one is even paying attention to the gym class or Lillian anymore, including Lia, who replied to their class rep with glee, "I don't know, man. But I'm preparing myself for something to happen." She was bemused by the sight of their Heath-sensei aggressively shoving the remaining contents of the food basket into their mutagenic Homeroom teacher's mouth. “Honestly, I’m not even sure what we’re witnessing right now, but shouldn't we interfere?” Zane sweatdropped at the rapid pace of their teachers’ bizarre and fast interactions. To him, observing these two felt like watching the personification of his last two brain cells at 2 am, counting down the hours to an exam. He found it both hilarious and concerning how, in one moment, the two a
