A young man stepped out through the gate of the most robust and formidable walls of the prison.

His name is Slade Nyther.

It has been three years since he went to prison in place of his girlfriend.

Three years ago, Mariana, his girlfriend, came running with tears streaming down her face, hoping that Slade would attend traffic court on her behalf as the driver. She claimed to have been speeding—a misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in prison.

She begged him, saying she didn't want to have a criminal record. She had just been accepted into university and was starting her life.

Slade loved and trusted her too much. They were about to get married!

But reality was not as it was preached when Slade got into prison.

He was accused of being a hit-and-run murderer!

Mariana seemed as panicked as he was. She told Slade that she had no idea how things had turned out this way and that she would do everything she could to get him out as soon as possible.

She claimed that she would take care of his family and care for them as though they were her parents. Also, she would come to visit Slade often.

Slade continued to believe in her, as always.

But then, Slade was thrown into the maximum-security wing, he was not allowed any visitor.

It was the most notorious prison side in the Northpole area, home to brute and wild inmates.

Slade was nearly on the brink of collapse. He couldn't eat or sleep. He didn't understand why something that should have been a simple penalty and educational lesson had turned into him being imprisoned with serious criminals, with his sentence endlessly extended.

He was being treated as if he were truly a murderer.

He was in immense pain, worrying about his family and his girlfriend… Fortunately, his family and Mariana were taking care of them. While enduring torment in prison, thinking of this gave Slade a slight sense of comfort.

He nearly died there, if not for a few unforeseen events…

Slade stood under the raging rays of the sun that poured fangs on him. The ugly memory of how he survived in the prison burnt even fiercer than the sun.

He felt a sudden pain in his wrist, which was heated by the sun, and he winced. There was a triangular-shaped scar etched in his wrist.

This is a gift from prison, but its significance goes beyond that. It comes from an old man in prison, bringing Slade unexpected strength and transforming him into a person completely different from before.

Yet, at this moment, Slade doesn't care about it that much.

A gush of wind crashed against his face, tracing every corner of his tough face. The fierceness of the wind brought back the familiar feeling and longing for freedom.

Now he was free again!

He can finally go home.

He couldn't wait to meet his family and Mariana again. They were his solace.

He got off from the cab and turned to what should be his family house!

"What the hell..." He gasped at first, not sure if that was the right thing to say.

He decided to turn around to the other side, "I think I'm in the wrong place."

When he looked around, he saw the familiar landmark and the lush garden opposite their building.

His family mansion was one of the proper buildings along this street three years ago. But what he was standing in front of right now looked like a haunted house. His heart dropped in his chest as anxiety started to bloom.

The garden was overgrown. What used to be bright flowers that justified the aesthetics of the building had been strangled to thistles. There was no roof on the building. There were cracks and dark remnants all over the walls, something which suggests that the building might once have been engulfed in fire!

What happened?! Didn’t Mariana promise to take care of his family? How did everything turn out like this?!

Slade swallowed a lump as he moved closer and closer to the building. His knees buckled and got weaker and weaker as he approached the door.

When he got to the doorstep, his whole hope was shattered. He looked through a big hole in the door. The exterior state of the building was just a feint shadow of what chaos crawls in the interior! Slade couldn't even begin to wonder what might have gone wrong.

"Slade???" A sudden voice called his name out of nowhere.

Slade spun around instinctively. Who could it be? Who knew him?

It was an elderly woman. Slade slowly started to walk towards the woman who seemed too grounded to the spot to move. She seemed to be in shock of a sort.

He was surprised that this woman knew him. How did she know him?

When he got to the woman and inspected the face of the woman closely. It would seem as though a scale had just fallen off his eyes.

"Mamita?..." He choked on the words, not believing it was her.

She was the nanny who had been with him since childhood. When he was just a few years old, Mamita was only a teenager herself. She had been with him through most of his life, like an older sister to him, even closer than a biological sibling.

She should be in her thirties. Why does she look so old? Why does his older sister look like she was in her late sixties? What happened to her?

Before Slade could even think of asking her any questions,

"My poor boy. They are all dead."

His nanny burst out in tears, throwing herself into his arms.

He felt stiff and immovable as he tried to process those few words that his nanny had just uttered. He slowly heaved the nanny from his chest and walked back to the building. He was shocked out of his wits. It could even be said that his actions now are but instinctive. He slowly pushed the door open, which fell away at his touch. Earlier, before he heard his name called by her, he had looked through a blow in the door to see the inside. But right now, the debris of the interior of his once beautiful home stood right their in front of him like a ghastly nightmare.Charred woods, melted plastics, shattered glasses, broken porcelain, and several other fire residues littered the whole room. Anger swept over Slade like a violent storm! But even in this utmost rage, the first thing that came to mind was helping Mamita from the ground. She looked helpless and extremely weak on the ground. He slowly lifted her up until he was certain that her feet were stable. He helped her to the back, a distance from the construction workers. He placed both of his palms gently on her shoulders. "Please stay here. Those pigs would wish they were never born." Slade promised, bloodlust and rage struggling in his eyes. When Mamita saw his eyes, she felt chills all over her body. Who was this grown man standing in front of her? Was he really the same Slade that she fed and nursed? She could only but move her head as Slade instructed. Even if she wanted to argue, she couldn't find her voice. There was a mark of the leader's hand printed on her face. There was pain all over her neck, too. Even while she was in pain, she couldn't help but worry about Slade's safety. Slade turned

Slade's eyes gained a strange strength as he realised what was about to happen. He couldn't just stand there and watch his nanny be crushed to death by the gigantic tyres of this mighty bulldozer. There was no one in the bulldozer. It must be that the driver had gotten out too hastily and hadn’t set the brake properly, causing it to move on its own.He was a couple of distances away from her and didn't want to risk the timing. There was a big stone just right next to his left foot.He quickly picked it up without any stress. The stone should weigh at least 40 pounds. It looked like one of the parts of the house that had popped out during the fire.Without having a second thought, he threw the stone towards one of the front tyres of the bulldozers. The precision was topnotch, and it balanced right when the tyre was about to be steered in the other direction.A big roar was heard, and the engine of the bulldozer came to a stop. The force was sudden and had probably damaged something in

Slade stomped his left leg on the ground, and off he went. There was no point digging deep into the assumptions while he stood there. The first necessity was saving the girl from drowning. As soon as his body made contact with the river after the dive, his head went gliding through the surface for a few seconds before he submerged his whole body into the water. Barely had he spent a minute in the water when he his head popped out of the water, a shawl of flood pouring from both sides of his head. Clutched to his chest was the girl who was barely breathing. With the girl in his arms, he climbed out of the water and slowly placed her body on the ground, supporting her back with his sturdy arm. The girl had swallowed a lot of water, and her lush blonde hair had turned into rolls of ropes. She was unconscious. Her face was pale, looming at the near-death omen. Her lips were blue, and she already looked like life was just a puff away, about to be blown off. "Let's take her to the

"What do you mean by this?" Slade's face held a very strong note of seriousness. His facial expression was so stiff that the man was beginning to question his own decision. The man cleared his throat and withdrew his hand for a second. He held a bolder stance and took a step closer to Slade and Mamita. "I don't want you to be offended by this. But in all truthfulness, I won't be happy if you don't take this token of gratitude from me. You have done a very great thing by saving my daughter. Please allow me to show my gratitude with this little token." The man was very intentional about his decision. Slade didn't say a word yet about it. He inspected the clothes of the man for the first time. He realised that the design of the overall winter coat looked very simple, but the intricate carving in the hems and collars was quite unique. Like a limited-edition casual wear. Also, judging by the manner at which the man was talking and the way he would carry himself, it was now obvious to S

There was an unusual silence between Slade and Mamita as they walked away from the scene. "Why didn't you accept the money?" Mamita finally asked. She had wanted to ask the question earlier, but she didn't want to do it in the presence of a stranger. She had respected his decision in public, but she wanted to understand why he had chosen not to take the money. It was a handsome amount that anyone would have taken at the first thought. Slade took a gaze at her. He understood her concerns. If she had not asked the question, he would have thought that something was wrong. A part of him already knew that the question was unavoidable. "While I was in prison, I learned a lot. Someone told me that helping someone shouldn't be centered on the premise of rewards. That if getting rewarded was why a help was rendered, then it was not necessary in the first place." Slade explained. "Money might end up being a harbinger of disaster. That was why." Slade came to a stop. He watched as Ma

The tone of the voice was hoarse. Just hearing the voice alone, Slade could deduce that the owner of the voice was not trying to have a conversation with him. The tone was as judgemental as it could get.Slade slowly turned around to see a tough looking man dressed in a neat pair of suits. In his left hand was a baton, and strapped to his waist was a walkie-talkie.The man looked at Slade from head to toe. Slade was still dressed in the clothes he wore out of prison. He looked rather too simple and very closely tattered."I'm sure you missed your way. Let me help you find it." The security man said to Slade, walking towards him to grab him.Slade quickly held out one of his hands to stop the man. The man stopped with no clue. It was a sudden decision that was relatively harmless. He just wanted Slade to leave. With the way Slade was dressed, it was obvious that he was not fit for this occasion. The only interest the security man had in Slade was to throw him out."I'm where I should b

Everyone of them could see as the mouth of the dark hole opened as though it was the pulsing throat of a gigantic and wild beast. The throat of the dark vacuum had gobbled the demons and had vanished into thin air. "Master!!!" Ivana jumped on her feet instantly and raced towards Slade. Ivana who appeared to have lost her will and strength was suddenly and instantly energized. She looked like a different person at that moment. She ran towards Jaai and leapt into his chest. By this time, all the demons were done feasting on the body of Manuel and were now back to their old human forms. Even though they were looking like an average human now, Izuga couldn't see them as such anymore. Right now, he was pissing his pants and shuddering. It felt like he would pass out any moment from now. He couldn't even lift his gaze, let alone look at the demons. He wished that he could grow a wing and fly out of this fucking place. He wished that there was something he could do to vanish. But when the reality dawned on him, he realised that the only superpower that he had right now was just wishes. There was nothing he could do but wish. It should be relieving but it was a mere illusion. Araguta was equally shaken to the core. Of course he had fought in deadly battles and had dealt blows that were ruthless. He had killed a thousand of evil spirits and had summoned many, returning them back to where they came from. Yet, he had never seen any demon of this form. Demons

The voice sounded so familiar to Sceptre that he couldn't do any other thing but be stunned by the suddenness of the call. Looking at the person who had just called his name, Sceptre's eyes widened in shock. With the look on his face, it would seem like he had just seen a ghost. "Izuga." Araguta, the man Sceptre muttered as he saw the man. "My son." He added. "Father!" The man, who now identifies as Izuga screamed. "What are you doing here" He asked, not ready to hear the answer. "I should be asking you this. How the hell did you get here?" The tone or Araguta had tuned so deeply that it was evident in his voice that this wasn't a reunion anymore. Sceptre was scolding his son as though he was an urchin who had just landed himself into a deep mess. He was way too annoyed than to be surprised to see him here. There was a reason they had fought and stopped seeing each other. Araguta had warned his son never to be part of the secret agent that worked for the government but Izuga had

  • Chapter 272

The man was wetting his pants right now as he saw what had just happened. He thought that he had seen cruel people all his life, but he had been telling himself a huge lie. What he had just seen was way more than just terrible. At first when he had seen the lady, he had thought that they were sex workers who came to please their clients. Instead, the ladies seemed scared of the men. This meant that the ladies must have been brought here against their own wills. They had been trafficked. A new wave of fear gripped the man. He was shaking. He was shuddering. If this kind of men were the people they had been brought to, doesn't that mean that they were done for?He wished that there was a way they could escape this kind of trouble but not in his wildest dreams would that be possible. He just knew it. The only way they would be rescued would be if perhaps an angel dropped down from heaven or a god. If that could happen, then perhaps they could have a shot at getting freed. The man's

"He wanted to kill me! He almost killed me!" Manuel cried as soon as he saw the creatures. He was reporting to the creatures as though they would come to his aid and teach the man some lessons. Instead, two of the creatures grabbed each of them and dragged them in. "Where are you taking us?" The man argued, doing all he could to yank himself off the hard grip of the weird-looking creatures. Perhaps he thought that the powers that he had just exhausted on Manuel would find a way to resurface. If that were to be the case, then he wouldn't be dragged away like a sac of rice. When he stopped trying to free himself, he realised that they had entered what looked like a big hall. At this point, he was neither scared nor worried. Instead, he was curious. This hall looked like a medical lab where gigantic transparent tanks were lined up all across the space. There were aisles in between the rows of transparent tanks. Each tank held a type of creature that the man had never seen before. In

The man was mellow through the journey. They walked through a dark hallway, then bursted into a hallway that had tiny hues of blue rays. The man had lifted his gaze for a moment to see where the blue rays were coming from, but his eyes were weary from the hard slap that he had received the second time. When the security had tried to drag him out of the prison, he had tried to put up a fight again, instead he met with a very laughable humiliation. Hence, to protect his ego and the thoughts of being capable, he decided that it would be best for him not to try and act the hero just like he was warned by the security.Soon enough, they approached a door that was saturated by a brilliant white light. The saturation was so high that it was hard to tell whether it was the door that was white or it was the white light that gave that illusion. They came to stop at the door. As soon as they stopped at the door, the three security personnel stepped away from them, letting them free. The sec

Manuel was still on the floor, groaning in pain as he tried to sit up but he just couldn't. Of course he could see the men that had just walked in, but he was too weak to react in a certain way. "Who are you?" The man argued, staking a claim as he stared at the three men who were walking towards him. He wasn't the same old weak person he used to be. He was now a new person and would do anything to protect that interest. In the past, he would have cowered like a cornered animal. But right now, he was willing to give it whatever it takes to earn his freedom. After all, he now has some powers. "I'm warning you to stop right now when I'm being nice to you." He warned again as the men kept walking in his direction. They didn't care about his warning obviously. The fact that they didn't care about his warning was making him feel unseen. How could someone

"What the hell is that?" The man wondered, turning back to Manuel to see what the hell was happening. Looking at the grip on his wrist, he saw Manuel's hand. Manuel's palm was locked around his wrist, holding him so strongly as though it would snap his wrist off. "What the hell!" He gasped, unable to explain how Manuel's grip got so strong. Wasn't this the same man that he had been hitting blue and black for a while now? Why all of a sudden, Manuel gained some strange strength? Why did it have to be when he was about to figure out where he was?He trailed the hand to the face of Manuel. Manuel's eyes were still shut just like it had always been. The eyelids didn't even flicker nor twitch. "Let go of my hand, you fool!" The man was getting rather impatient. "It's better you make the right decision before I break your face further." When consciousness was restored to his body, his eyes flickered for a moment. There was a strong urge to open his eyes but he couldn't follow through with it for some reasons. Soon enough, his eyes started itching. This time, there was no reason not to follow through with the obvious. His eyes flipped open. Then he shut them again as they met with blinding lights. When he tried to open the eyes again, he tried to do it carefully. He didn't want to fall into the same old ditch that he had fallen into earlier. Opening his eyes this time, he redirected the concentration of his pupils in another direction. That was the only way he could avoid the same old mistake. When his gaze fell on the other area, he saw something interesting that stole a weird sound from his throat. It was something that was rather instinctive than premeditated. It was the leg of a human. At first, he thought that the leg was disconnected from the body of the human but it wasn't. His eyes slowly trailed the leg
