Chapter 48: Sworn Brotherhood

The night was calm, with neither rain nor wind. The silvery moon hung high in the sky, its light streaming through the towering ancient trees and illuminating the broken ruins of an old temple, where countless shadows intermingled.

The ancient temple was in ruins, with only one collapsed hall remaining. Rubble and broken tiles littered the ground, and even the earthen walls were overgrown with several feet of wild grass. Clearly, this had been a desolate temple for quite some time.

In front of the hall, on a relatively clean patch of ground, Ethan and Maxwell sat facing each other. A bonfire blazed between them, with Ethan intently roasting a chicken over the makeshift wooden frame.
