"Life can be annoying honestly," Andrew said as he looked through the window at the harsh downpour of the rain. When the group thought that they could move for a few more hours until sunset, it suddenly began to rain heavily. Enough to force them to seek shelter.Hence, they quickly found a gas station and decided to hunker down there. On the bright side though, there were some old comics they could use to entertain the kids. And a toilet, so they didn't have to ease themselves in the open as they had been doing since."With how hard the rain is falling, we might be leaving here by noon tomorrow. Just our luck." Andrew lamented. But who could blame him? They were trying so hard to cut their travel time and arrive at the settlement, and yet they just kept facing setback after setback."Fretting over it won't change anything. It's unfortunate but that's just how it is. The only thing we can do now is take it the best we can and keep moving." Philip said, however, Andrew raised a brow.W
“What the hell is that?” One of the soldiers screamed in horror as the creature removed its tail from the bow lifeless soldiers body. The sound of gunshots filled the air as more soldiers began running in different directions as more creatures began falling out.In an instant all the immigrants who had been composed scattered in multiple directions as everyone wanted to escape from the beasts.Franklin was no different as he immediately got up and ran away, trying to put distance between himself and the ensuing chaos. He ran several feet away from the camp to where there was a warehouse that contained vehicles. His chest rose and dropped in large compressions as he was gathering himself and processing what had just happened.“Monsters, there are monsters in this country” he mumbled to himself. He never thought he would be seeing something like this. The sounds of gunshots and screams could be heard from the distance as the soldiers continued to fight the monsters. He crouched in a co
“Xander, anything on your mind?” Phillip asked him as he woke up from his little recap. For some reason, he had begun to remember all the events that led him to their current situation.“No, I’m fine sir. Nothing to worry about here.” Xander said as he regained focus on the gates in front of him. Greyson saved them, who knows what would have become of them if they didn’t stumble across them.He joined the SLF immediately in order to rid himself of the shame that went with him wherever he went. His father's death was on him as far as he was concerned and he had to atone for it.He didn’t like the nonchalant attitude of some of the people in the force, especially their leader but he put up with it anyway despite their taunting and insults at his professionalism.“This isn’t the army kid” or “loosen up a bit.” And “you’re still young”. Those were all things he heard quite frequently since joining the force but he didn’t let them get to him. He simply did what was required of him.As the
“Where did you leave her?” Christopher asked his son in between breaths while simultaneously clutching his side.Xander looked a bit closer at the area he thought his father had originally gotten injured before, it almost seemed to be becoming… darker-“Xander answer me! Where is Hailey?” Christopher asked again, bringing Xander back to his senses. “Yes, yes I’ll take you to her right now.” Xander said as he opened the door to the bakery and rushed into the kitchen.“Hailey, you’re still here right?” Xander asked as he knelt down next to the cupboard he left his sister in.A moment passed and he could hear her subtle sobs through the wooden door. “Sniff.. yeah... I am... sob.” The little girl said and a wave of relief washed over both Xander and his father.“Come out for me sweetie.” Christopher said and quickly the little girl rushed out and ran to hug her daddy.“Daddy… sob... I thought you were gonna get hurt.” She said as she jumped into her father's arms who lifted her and hugge
The sun had barely risen when, just as they had previously planned, everyone had assembled in front of Greysons safe house.Phillip, Frank, Andrew, Dina, Xander, Greyson and a couple guards were all standing in front of the building. Obviously Greyson and Frank were not going to follow them on the expedition, however he came to offer his moral support. They were given a single armored vehicle with enough food and water to last them at least a week. Their objective was simple. Find the kid and bring him back to the base.“We are all packed and ready to go.” Andrew said as he joined the group who were now standing in a circle. Philip glanced at Dina who noticed and turned her gaze away from him. “Alright. I am sorry that I have to rely on all of you once again but that is simply the situation that we find ourselves in.” Greyson said to them.“Not at all, this is what we signed up for when we decided to become a part of the settlement.” Phillip said to Greyson.“Definitely, besides this
Phillip took a deep breath and nodded towards the guards beside him. They opened the door and led him into the building. As they walked past, Phillip could see the design of the building was different from what it displayed outside. As they entered the building, Phillip noticed that there was a large space between the four corners of the building. Trees and other vegetation occupied the area, it was refreshing to see greenery well-kept in such a chaotic setting. They turned a corner which led them to a hallway that stretched for what felt like miles. Eventually, they got to another corner when the guards surrounding him came to a pause.“You’ll need to put this on from here.” One of them said while bringing out a black mask, which he wanted to put over Phillips's head or so he supposed. “What exactly is the point of that?” Phillip asked with a lame expression on his face.“The location of Sir Greyson is confidential and respectfully speaking, you are still an outsider. So please compl
The silence that filled the air sent shivers through the spines of everyone there, including Phillips Circle who could not believe what they had just seen.Perhaps not Christopher but Andrew and Dina were visibly shocked. Their eyes widened in shock and mouths dropped at the sight of Phillip, their Phillip had just murdered someone in front of them.Yes, he was evil, yes he was a menace and yes he was working for the enemy but Philip ended his life without so much as a second thought. The smile he had after was eerie as well, this was a new side they never expected to see.Killing infected when necessary and incapacitating people, that was what they knew him to be capable of. This however was beyond what they had expected.“Everyone, attack!!” Kiara said after suddenly being brought back to reality after seeing Xavier’s body drop to the ground. “Andrew, Chris, get to cover!” Phillip said as he disappeared from their sight. All of a sudden all they could see was the body of guards bei
CHAPTER 32Dina and Andrew tiptoed through the large city, trying their best to stay away from the hidden lights of the watchtowers. They covered a decent amount of ground before finally coming across the more bush part of the settlement: the slums they had passed earlier. They saw some guards but saw no reason to be scared of them since they began to see other residents moving about so they just decided to blend in with the crowd. They had covered themselves up with scarves to hide their identities, especially Phillip. His hair and eye color always stuck out like a sore thumb. They began moving through the slums, they saw people sleeping under the tents and inside the makeshift container houses. However, the more they walked the larger the crowd seemed to become. As they were reaching towards the center they saw a gathering of people surrounding a bonfire. The air around them was one full of cheer and heartiness. It was admirable considering their deplorable conditions. Phillip loo
