“BELOW YOU!” Were the last words Andrew heard Phillip scream before he got stabbed through his chest.

His eyes widened in shock as he saw the blood drip through Phillips's shirt. Quickly he retreated and continued to avoid their attacks but he knew Phillip was spent.

*SHRIEK*

Quickly, he was brought back to his senses by the scream of the spider-like infected that Phillip had tried to warn them about.

He quickly reached for the machete that he had carried earlier and swung it into the neck of the grotesque-looking monster.

The sound of metal hitting bone cut through the commotion that was going on all around them. Disgusting blood and liquids splashed all over him.

But still, it wasn’t enough damage as the monster was still squirming and flailing its numerous hands everywhere. “Dina, stab it!” Andrew yelled.

Dina hesitated for a moment but soon enough she brought out her dagger and with anxiety, stabbed the creature under its head, right through the jugular.

More blood poured out and after some twitching, it finally collapsed on the ground. It was dead.

“We have to do something!” Dina’s voice cut through the air, as she pointed towards a surrounded Phillip. He was spent. He had used the last of his energy to put enough distance between himself and the oncoming infected.

Andrew was in a bind, he knew that they had to help Phillip, but they weren’t like him. There were at least a dozen infected and there were only two of them.

They didn’t have powers like him, only a shotgun with limited ammo and a pair of knives. The sound of Phillips's screams filled the air once more as he got stabbed by another infected.

“We have to do something! We can’t just let him die!” Dina screamed once again, putting her face on Andrew's shoulder. She couldn’t bear to see anymore.

Andrew gripped the shotgun in his hands. He couldn’t just leave Phillip, not after everything he had done for them.

“Dina, let’s go. We have to help him.” Andrew said with resolve in his eyes. Dina nodded and they both began making their way down the stairs.

***

Andrew sat on the floor, with no ounce of energy in his body. All he could hope was the siblings were okay.

“What a crappy way to go” he said to himself as he saw the inhuman faces creeping closer to him. An infected with a comically disproportionate arm reached out towards him and he simply closed his eyes.

He began to have rogue thoughts that he hadn’t bothered about when he first woke up. What about Valerie and the jerk she cheated on him with?

What about his family and friends? Was there actually a safe haven or was everyone truly wiped out?

It didn’t matter anyway, any second he wouldn’t be head to worry about it. Suddenly he was woken up from his daydream by a soft hand resting on his shoulders.

He turned around to see familiar green eyes looking at him. “Dina? What are you doing back here!?” He asked in a panic.

“We couldn’t just leave you to die!” Said a voice from in front of him. It was Andrew! He was using the last of the shotgun ammo to fight against the infected.

It wasn’t working, only distracting them for the time being, and slowly they were all backed up into a corner.

“What are you guys doing here? Why did you come back?” Phillip asked weakly.

“To save you. We couldn’t leave after everything you had done for us!” Dina spoke, which was unusual for her.

“What was the point of the distraction if we all end up dying!” Phillip said in frustration.

“Hey! Fight if you can, shut up if you can’t.” Andrew said as he kept shooting what little ammunition he had left.

*CLICK CLICK CLICK*

We’re soon the only sounds that filled the air as they were out of ammo. Andrew simply backed up and kept his sister behind him.

Nobody exchanged a word, they all just prepared for the worst.

*BANG BANG BANG*

As shots ringed through the air black blood and brain particles flew through the air. Someone was shooting at the infected surrounding them, but who?

Within seconds, the dozens of infected that had once surrounded them had reduced to one. It was crawling and squirming on the ground, its legs had been shot off.

Slowly, a man wearing a black uniform with a scar across his eye slowly walked behind the creature and grabbed it by its deformed and spiked neck.

“You disgust me!” He said with a scowl.

And to the surprise of the three crushes the creature's neck with his bare hands, its lifeless body crumbling down as if it wasn’t a threat a few minutes ago.

“Search the area for any more of the infected. Then report back here.” He said once more.

“Yes sir!” A group of voices said in unison.

Andrew, Phillip and Dina were too focused on the man In front of them for them to notice the troops spread out around the area.

“Andrew, who are these people?” Dina asked nervously.

Andrew thought to himself, could they be from the safe haven they had heard about? However, after looking at them and their gear, he wasn’t sure.

“Excuse me, sir, what’s going on here? Who are you?” Andrew finally found the courage to ask.

“Kaiser Braun, head of the recon unit of the SGO.” the man said with a less-than-friendly look on his face.

“And who might you bunch be?” He asked, shifting his gaze to Phillip who was now sitting on the floor, trying to cover his wounds.

Thanks to his super speed, his wounds were healing at an unprecedented pace, but he had lost a lot of blood.

He was going in and out of consciousness, trying to stay awake as he didn’t feel comfortable with Kaiser’s presence. Something didn’t sit right with him whenever he looked at him.

“My name is Andrew Hughes, and this is my sister Dina, and that’s our companion Phillip. We’ve been working together for a few days now.” Andrew said, trying to make sure he didn’t say more than necessary.

Kaiser had already noticed Phillips's white hair and silver eyes, instinctively he could tell that he wasn’t normal. Secondly, his wounds were healing right in front of his eyes.

He didn’t need to think twice to know that Phillip was a special grade like him. He needed to recruit him to become part of the SGO.

“Your friend over there doesn’t seem to be doing too good.” Kaiser said while gesturing towards Phillip.

“Ah… all he needs is food and rest and he’ll be good to go. We haven’t eaten anything for days.” Dina said worriedly.

Kaiser made a signal with his left hand and one of the subordinates standing behind him walked up to him and opened a bag filled with canned food and dried fruits.

He grabbed the bag and threw it at the feet of Andrew. “Eat, and give some to your friend too.” He said.

At this point, Phillip was very close to losing consciousness. The last sight he could see was Dina hurriedly opening a can of beans and trying to feed him a spoon.

But it was too late, he had used too much energy and lost too much blood while fighting the infected. He had overexerted himself and soon everything faded away into black.

CHAPTER 11Where am I? That was the first thought Philip had when he woke up. From the bumping sensation he kept feeling, he knew that he was in some sort of vehicle. He also remembered some guy coming to ‘save’ them before he lost consciousness, so he was very concerned. However, he made no effort to open his eyes or stir. Because he could hear two people having a conversation next to him.“This guy seems pretty strong.” The first one said.“Even if he’s a special grade, it’s very impressive that he was able to hold down that many infected on his own.” He continued to say.“That’s right, and with the way he was looking, he barely had any energy left. Boss will be very happy with us when we get back.” The second said with a hint of excitement.Boss? Special grade? Philip saved these two thoughts in his mind and kept listening.“By the way, what do you think sir Kaiser is going to do about those two?” The first one asked and Philip restrained opening his eyes. But from the tired looks he got from Dina and Andrew, it did the opposite of its intended purpose.“Hey, can’t you just do what you did before? Like carry us and run really far?” Andrew asked him In between breaths.“Well, it’s not impossible. But the last time I did that I used about half my energy. I don’t think I’m good enough to travel that fast with people yet.” Phillip said while dodging a fallen tree.“If I was to do it again I would probably lose consciousness, and I don’t think it’s worth the risk. She had a fever. There was no worse time for something like this to happen. However, he couldn’t blame her. They weren’t getting enough sleep, rest or food. Always running and fighting. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. He went over to check the duffel bag that Phillip had taken from the camp when they were escaping. “Please let something be in here.” He muttered to himself as he rummaged through the bag.Eventually, he picked up a white bottle containing something he couldn’t properly see. The moment Andrew and Philip came through the door, they huddled close together near Dina who laid on an old couch.“Hey you two, it’s me.” Philip smiled and held up his hands with a harmless smile causing the two boys to drop their guards slightly.“I- is this your friend sir?” The younger of the boys stuttered at it and Philip nodded.“That’s right. You don’t mind us staying, right?” Philip asked and Andrew looked at him through the corner of his eye.‘You ask that when we’ve already come in here?’ However, his thoughts were interrupted when a soft moan escaped Dina’s lips and she squirmed on the couch.Andrew immediately rushed to her side and touched her forehead before pulling his hand back quickly.“Geez, she’s burning up.” He said with worry.“We need something to coo

Then again he still needed to eat, so maybe it wasn’t so surprising. He sat in a chair as Andrew went to sleep.‘Hm I haven’t really thought about how my ability actually works honestly.’ He thought. He had this thought because of the SGO guy he fought earlier. He found it odd. He believed that those like him, special grades, only received an overall physical enhancement when they got infected, and then a certain category would receive the best enhancement, like his speed. However, seeing the guy lob fireballs at him immediately changed his mindset. Clearly, the G-virus didn’t just affect physical traits.‘Or does it?’ Philip leaned in his chair.‘I doubt it’s magic. Most likely, his body was secreting a sort of flammable liquid and he could somehow ignite it when it came out. I would be sur

Immediately he did that, he pushed open the door and time slowed.Philip looked at the armored vehicles and immediately dismissed the thought of running into them. He was superhuman sure, but running straight into a man armored vehicle at Mach speeds was suicide. So instead, he picked up a large rock and carried it to the first car where the guy that had been shooting them was looking through a hole in the top of the car with an assault rifle in his hands.Philip put the rock in the wheel well of the car, and then he repeated the process with the other cars behind it before going back into the

"Life can be annoying honestly," Andrew said as he looked through the window at the harsh downpour of the rain. When the group thought that they could move for a few more hours until sunset, it suddenly began to rain heavily. Enough to force them to seek shelter.Hence, they quickly found a gas station and decided to hunker down there. On the bright side though, there were some old comics they could use to entertain the kids. And a toilet, so they didn't have to ease themselves in the open as they had been doing since."With how hard the rain is falling, we might be leaving here by noon tomorrow. Just our luck." Andrew lamented. But who could blame him? They were trying so hard to cut their travel time and arrive at the settlement, and yet they just kept facing setback after setback."Fretting over it won't change anything. It's unfortunate but that's just how it is. The only thing we can do now is take it the best we can and keep moving." Philip said, however, Andrew raised a brow.W

In the blink of an eye Phillip was already at the front lines where the soldiers were assembling themselves and putting on their gear. They were spooked when he suddenly appeared out of seemingly thin air. “Who’s in command here?” Phillip asked the slightly frightened group in front of him.“Well based on what’s just happened wouldn’t that be you sir?” A voice said sarcastically from behind, generating a slight chuckle from all the members behind him.He was an average heighted man with well built muscles, a full face beard and ebony black skin and a shiny bald head to top it off.Phillip asked that question to know the hierarchy of the group and who’s responsible for what. “That’s very funny, however I don’t know if you are all aware but that alarm means there’s a swarm of infected rushing towards this base, correct?” He asked while turning his gaze to all of them who were staring at him.“Yes we know, we also know we don’t need one of those freaks to tell us how to do a job we’ve b

In the blink of an eye, a whole week had passed. The group was getting more and more accustomed to their new residence and life in the settlement. It was weird since they were so used to finding an infected at least once or twice in a day, so returning back to a somewhat normal life was a little foreign. However, they did still adapt to their new lifestyle quickly. So when they were confident, they all finally decided to look for something to do.Also, Frank hadn't stopped collecting blood from Philip, and according to the bags under his eyes and the excited expression he had on his face each time he invited Philip to his lab, Philip judged that his blood was indeed helping. He had tried to watch Frank work but gave up almost immediately as he failed to understand anything he was doing. On the other hand, Andrew and Dina had been socializing with the other survivors in the settlement. They tried to observe as much as they could while passing through, especially exits should they need to escape from the place for any reason. The walls were made from timber and reinforced by rows of lamp posts, despite the fact that the infection spread less than two months ago the measures they had taken to protect themselves were very impressive. And unlike his earlier assumptions, the walls actually spanned about 3 kilometers across all four sides of the settlement. Every 50 meters or so there was a watch tower with people with guns at the top.Upon closer inspection, some parts of the walls were covered in graffiti. Names of departed, days In captivity and other random yet strange things were painted on the walls.“Follow me.” Alice said as she turned and passed through what was formerly a commercial district but had now become a makeshift
