She realized she was left in the room by Lena. Assuming the old woman must’ve busied herself with sending a meal to Bernice, who was still left downstairs.

The electric stove lay on a stool a few steps in front of the cabinet, directly connected to a spare socket near the mini generator. Containers were left neatly on the floor beside the stool, either items’ for cleaning or the leftovers.

The door had been open for quite some time, which makes Perri’s sense of time conflicted or a bit distorted since she has been busy browsing through the chat logs. Contact with Lena’s son ceased, with neither call nor messages Perri sent being unanswered. Other chat groups Perri sent messages to were unanswered.

Patting her head, Horaz leaned down to her forehead. She heard him smell her neck, the tips of his nose touching her skin. His eyes looked glazed, and somehow, she knew why he was there but couldn’t quite admit it to herself.
