Side Story: Nails on Coffee (part 22)

Greeting someone’s resident of a home as if you were not a stranger seconds before meeting them should be grating their paranoia. A person’s level of fight or flight towards the “unknown,” mysterious, or any change in their environment, becomes confusing. Anything can happen. Any thought could occur. One thing is certain, Imago did not expect to be waved back by a stuffed toy dog that involuntarily followed gravity down the railing. Out of instinct, and panic, Imago rushed to catch the doll in time for the girl to run over the side staircase, making the loudest “thunk” sounds on the copper steps.

The echoing of her running footsteps filled the walls of the first floor anyone within hearing reach would hear it without fail.
