CHAPTER 26: DEREK's WORK

With the number of glares Clara was getting the next morning, she figured that she had probably pissed a whole village. That was an overstatement, but that was how she felt.

“Good morning.” She hummed when she reached the table.

“ Morning, Clara.” Grandpa Quentin replied as she drew her chair in an attempt to sit.

Derek placed a hand over hers and drew it out instead. The glares intensified, and she felt like entering into the ground to save her. “ Thank you.” She murmured but was waved off.

“A gentleman shouldn't allow a woman to sit so casually.” Derek replied and looked at Henry briefly.

The meaning hung in the air.

“ Let's begin our meal.” Pops said.

As soon as she finished eating, she flew upstairs into the safety of her room. She had been uncomfortable throughout breakfast. She reached for her phone and dialed her brother's number again. They had not had the time to speak properly yesterday before the mishaps began.

They needed the file today.
