Chapter 2: The System’s Gift
last update2024-09-16 14:24:34

As Eggsy's eyes fluttered open, his mind had momentarily went foggy, like a veil of confusion that shrouded his mind. But as his gaze cleared, he saw a hollow interface hovering above his face - it was a blue translucent screen called a system. As it displayed certain information, a voice could also be heard narrating the information into Eggsy’s mind.

[Congratulations Eggsy! You have been given the Apocalypto system]

The message appeared and a female robotic voice had announced in his mind.

“An apocalypto system? That’s new.” Yes, Eggsy knew what a System was due to the countless Vr games he would play during his spare time - the game when played; takes the player into the game world, making them feel like they were in the real world.

But what he didn’t actually knew was why the system was labelled as an apocalypto system, something that has never happened before. The system only exists as a plain system in the games he played, which was why he was surprised when it claimed to be an apocalypto System. Yet, he continued reading.

[In addition to this, several power-ups have been given for the user to survive the apocalypse. Below are your stats and skills]

The display continued, showing more information as they appeared in tabs.

“Zombies? Am I in a virtual reality capsule playing a zombie game? But the system looks different from what it would usually show, it’s now using my real name and it is showing me skills that I have no idea what they are or what they do. Did they upgrade these or sha?” Eggsy wondered as he continue reading.

“What the…?” Eggsy blurted out. Soon the darkness that enveloped his eyes started clearing out, and now he could see his surroundings.

He was currently in the place where he had previously found a girl stuck under rubble. He was attempting to help her back then when he suddenly blacked out.

A surge of adrenaline coursed through Eggsy's veins as he struggled to his feet, his mind racing with concern.

He looked to his side but he couldn’t find the girl, which means the system was right. The girl, known as Maya has been taken by Victor. A frustrated frown had appeared on his face as he realised this.

However, he soon noticed that all the wounds and injury he sustained from Victor’s beating had disappeared, and he looked to be in a more perfect condition than before.

“Did the system did all this?” He said. “Then I have to find that girl, I don’t know what Victor might do to her.”

Right then and there, a map had appeared above his eyes. It was a map he recognised to be the map of their city, then there was a red location icon signifying the location of Maya in another city nearest to it.

“Ravenfield City? How did they get there so fast? I couldn’t have passed out for so long.”

Checking his watch, he saw that the time was 10am in the morning, and the date was Friday. While the day the apocalypse started was Tuesday in the afternoon.

Realisation hit him as he saw that he’s been out for three days. Now he understood how Victor and his gangs had managed to get to the other city within the time frame.

“Now I must find a way to get to Ravenfield city.”

At that moment, he noticed a person standing in front of him. They had their back turned towards Eggsy. And with the way the person was dressed, he could safely say that they were a lady.

He cautiously approached the lady as he noticed that she has been standing on the same spot without engaging in any activity or movement.

“Hello Ma’am, are you okay?” he asked, his voice tinged with concern.

As he said this, the lady had turned around, but the sight of the person wasn’t what he was expecting - half her face had been bitten off, exposing jagged bone and torn flesh. Eggsy recoiled in horror.

“Shit! Shit! Shit!” Eggsy shouted as he stumbled backwards, but the zombie had immediately lunged at him as it attempt to bite Eggsy.

[Kick the zombie in the stomach with your right foot. Grab her hands and spin her around. Twist her head to kill her!]

“Like shit that is easy!” Eggsy yelled, hesitating for a fraction of a second, but he had no choice. He had to do what was said if he wanted to survive.

With his right foot, he kicked the zombie lady on the stomach causing her to jerk backwards. Then as he grabbed her hands, he pulled her whole body backwards till she had her back facing him, then grabbing her head, he twisted it to the side, killing her on the spot.

As the Zombie slumped to the ground, lifeless, Eggsy felt a rush of relief.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations, you have killed a zombie!]

[Energy: 9/10]

“Phew! I almost got killed there.” Eggsy said as he glanced at the dead body of the zombie lady. “So the system wasn’t joking, there really are zombies. But what the heck happened to this world. I thought zombies only exists in games.”

Right at that moment, several zombies started making their way towards him; about a dozen of them, collapsing and pushing against each other as they struggled to move forward.

“Well, at least I have weapons,” Eggsy muttered to himself, a grim smile spreading across his face. “This will be no different than playing Vr games, except for the part where I might actually become a zombie.”

Glancing through the weaponry from the system, Eggsy had selected two different swords. Due to the attacking rate of the ghost blade, he had decided to choose it. But he has always been fond of using dual blades, so he chose to use that in battle, while the ghost blade would only be used when he fights against difficult opponents.

Apart from these two weapons, he hadn’t chosen anything else. For now, he would be attacking using only swords, then maybe later he might change them into guns.

“Alright let’s do this!” He shouted, charging forward at the approaching zombies with a fierce determination.

With swift and deadly precision, Eggsy targeted the zombies' heads, knowing that cutting it off was the surest way to kill them. He swung his twin blades in wide arcs, striking through their necks, decapitating their heads.

Within minutes, the dozen zombies lay motionless, their severed heads rolling across the ground. Eggsy stood panting, his blades smeared with gore, but he was glad he killed all of them.

At that moment, the system popped up.

[Ding!]

While Eggsy was busy checking out the system notification, he had failed to noticed a Zombie creeping up behind him.

However, the sudden sound of gunshot had sent him diving to the ground, his heart racing with fear. As he looked back, he saw the zombie’s head splattered into a mess of blood and brains.

Then coming out of the shadows were a group of six survivors, one of them holding onto a smoked gun while the others were with different kinds of weapons; swords, cutlasses and iron poles.

“You miss one.” They said, their eyes fixed on Eggsy as they approached him.

He hadn't expected to encounter other survivors, especially not ones who seemed so well-armed and organized. The gunman, a tall, imposing figure with a rugged jawline, stepped forward. “You're lucky we showed up when we did,” he said, eyeing Eggsy's blades. “You're pretty good with those, but you can't take on every zombie alone.”Eggsy hesitated, unsure if he should trust these strangers. But something about their confident demeanor put him at ease. “Thanks,” he said, sheathing his blades. “I owe you one.”The group's leader, a woman with piercing green eyes and a sword at her side, smiled. “No need to thank us. We're just glad to have found someone else who's still human.” She extended a hand. “I’m Ava. This is Marcus, Jax, Lena, Ryder, and Jane.”Eggsy shook Ava's hand, feeling a sense of camaraderie wash over him. “I’m Eggsy.”Ava nodded. “We've been scouting this area for

As they turned onto Bengals street, the restaurant came into view. The peace Haven Restaurant was a large, fortified building with sealed off windows. But what caught Eggsy's attention was the horde of zombies banging against the walls and door, trying to get in. “Looks like we're not the only ones interested in this place,” Marcus said, eyeing the zombies. Ava nodded. “We need to clear them out before we can even think of getting inside.” The group charged into battle, Eggsy's twin blades slicing through the zombies with ease. Jax's cutlass and Ryder's iron poles crushed skulls, while Marcus’ precision shots took out zombies from a distance. Jane's agility allowed her to dodge zombie attacks with ease, her long wavy hair swinging to the side as she did this. Lena had also killed some, but most of the zombies were killed by Ava, Marcus and Eggsy. After what felt like an eternity, they finally cleared the horde of zombies. We would have to fight hundreds of them to get out.” Marcus replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “That is if anyone doesn’t get infected.”“And besides, we don’t have any of our weapon with us.” Ryder said, since he basically didn’t have any at all.The group exchanged glances. They were all worried and concerned. How were they meant to save Lena if they had no way of leaving the room. “Your weapons are kept in a room located close to the stairs leading to the second floor.
