Chapter Seven: The Horde of Zombies.
last update2024-09-19 23:28:57

“Guys, we're f'cked!” Marcus exclaimed, his eyes wide with alarm.

Eggsy rushed to the door, peering through the narrow opening. “What's out there?”

A horde of zombies could be seen walking around the corridor, occupying most of the place. Eggsy shut the door back and turned to look at the others. The look on his face affirmed Marcus’s statement.

“There’s an army of zombies everywhere. We would have to fight hundreds of them to get out.” Marcus replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “That is if anyone doesn’t get infected.”

“And besides, we don’t have any of our weapon with us.” Ryder said, since he basically didn’t have any at all.

The group exchanged glances. They were all worried and concerned. How were they meant to save Lena if they had no way of leaving the room.

“Your weapons are kept in a room located close to the stairs leading to the second floor. There are other weapons as well that you could use.” The first female worker said.

“The problem is how to get there. With no way out of this room, we’re probably trapped in here.” The second lady said.

“There’s actually a way.” Ava said, recalling that she and Eggsy had came here through the shaft roof.

“We could pass through here to the room.” She said, pointing at the opening on the roof, and everyone had nodded in agreement. Those in the group had even forgotten how both Ava and Eggsy had appeared in the room to save them.

“The room is on the other side of the hall, and the shaft doesn’t reach there.” The First female worker said again. “You’ll have to land in an initial room before passing through the horde of zombies to the next room. Which means you’ll be encountering the zombies on the way. So, we’re still facing them either way.”

Everyone kept mute as they listened to what she said, and that was when Eggsy had spoken up. “You guys should go through the roof, I’ll try and cause a distraction to ensure your escape. Then once you’ve finally obtained your weapons, I’ll pass through the roof to meet up with you.“

The idea sounded nice to them, but they felt like they couldn’t let Eggsy do all the task alone. They needed someone to help him. And that was when someone had volunteered to help, even though no one had asked.

“I’m staying with you.” Jane said as she checked her gun's magazine, ensuring it was filled with bullets.

“I… don’t …” before Eggsy could even finish his statement, he was interrupted by Marcus.

“That’ll be nice, you guys are the best in the group. You both are good at attacking, you’ll help in causing a distraction till we get to the other room.” Marcus said and everyone had nodded in agreement.

More explanations were being made by Ava, and once everything was set, the group had decided to move.

Although Eggsy wanted to complain about Jane joining him, he couldn’t when Marcus and the others supported that they stay with each other.

Jane was handed one more gun to the one she had with her, as well as some bullets. While Marcus had returned Eggsy’s other sword to him. Seemingly observing the blade before handing it over.

“This sword is awesome, how did you manage to come across it?” Marcus asked. “Hey, and I thought they took your sword, how did you get it back?”

This had raised a lot of brows from the others as they glanced towards Eggsy for an answer, including Ava. Eggsy himself could notice the bunch of eyes staring his way, but he decided not to reveal anything. At least not until he finds Maya.

“It’s a long story.” Eggsy said, not saying anything else. Seeing this, Marcus had decided not to ask any further questions.

So far, it felt like Eggsy was hiding a lot of secrets from them, but as long as it didn’t affect anyone in the group, Marcus didn’t care. Everyone else has their own secrets which they’re keeping to themselves, so he decided to respect his privacy.

In line with this, chairs had been stacked up, and everyone started climbing up through the opening on the roof, and that included the three captured workers.

Ryder as usual, was the last to climb up, but before he did, he had something to say.

“I have my eyes on the two of you. Don’t do anything crazy before we meet.” He said before leaping up the roof. “And also, stay in one piece. Don’t let those things get to you.”

“Sure thing.” Was all Eggsy said, and Jane had just waved him goodbye.

Sighing, Eggsy had turned to Jane. “You’re ready?”

Nodding her head slightly, she adjusted her grip on the guns she had with her, though it was done nervously. This hadn’t gone unnoticed by Eggsy, who placed his hands on her shoulder.

‘I don’t know if I’m ready. I don’t know why I said I’d stay with him. What the heck is wrong with me.’ Jane said within herself.

But as if Eggsy could read her thoughts, he had spoken up.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” He claimed. “Just stay behind me at all times. You can support with your guns, but just make sure you stay at my back.”

As he said this, Jane felt a little relief, but there was this feeling in her that something bad was going to happen.

“Alright, in two. 1…2.” Eggsy opened the door, and the two charged out, ready to face the horde.

The horde of Zombies, upon spotting Eggsy and Jane, had charged ferociously towards them. Right then, the system had popped up above Eggsy’s face.

[2nd Quest]

[Defeat all 100 Zombies]

[Reward: Instant level up]

‘Another quest, this is nice.’ Eggsy smiled as he drew out his two blades.

One of the Zombies had lunged at him, but a swift swing of his sword had sliced its body into two. Another had came rushing from the other side, but a bang sound was heard as its head blew into pieces.

Eggsy had turned to look at Jane, flashing a smile at her. “Well, we’ve gotten their attention. Now let’s go full force.”

“Okay.” Jane nodded, her grip tightening against the two guns as she regained a bit of her confidence.

Diving in, Eggsy shoved his sword into the mouth of one of the zombies, while he cut off both hands of the other zombie trying to reach at him. He kicked one of the zombies in the stomach, causing those behind him to stumble backwards and fall.

As he slew and cut off many of the zombies’ head, he got to a corner where a certain camera had been fixed to monitor the movement and actions of those at the corridor.

Jumping up, he had swung his sword sideways, destroying and cutting the camera into two. He got to another corner and did the same thing, till all the cameras in the main hall of the restaurant had been destroyed.

So far, Jane had been keeping up with Eggsy’s speed as he slew zombies on the left and right, in fact, the huge number of zombies were starting to dwindle down into a number of thirty within the few minutes they got here.

Just as Eggsy turned to face the group of three zombies coming their way, Jane had decided to stray away a bit to kill the zombies that are further away from them.

She realised that Eggsy had been the one killing most of the zombies, even the ones that she shot would still be given a final kill by Eggsy’s sword, so she had decided to stray away from his side and do some killing herself.

She pointed her gun towards an armless Zombie whose arms had been slain by Eggsy. She was hoping to finish it up with a shot to the head. To her disappointment, the shot hadn’t gone off, as it appeared she had ran out of bullets.

“Shit, I’m out of bullets!” She said, as she called for Eggsy’s help, but it was too late as the zombie had lunged at her, then with its sharp teeth, it bit on her arm.

“Arghhh!!” She shouted in pain as she saw her arm being bitten by the zombie, but at that moment, a swing had gone past its head, killing it on the spot.

“Are you okay?” Eggsy asked as he helped her up and away from the zombie corpse. The flesh on her left arm was intact but the bite mark had caused a wound on her arm.

“I’m sorry, I should have listened to you.” Jane said, feeling sorry and stupid about her unthoughtful act. A great amount of pain was coursing through her vein, but she was trying her best to endure it.

“What will Ryder say if he sees me now.” Jane chuckled dryly.

There were still about twenty or so Zombies left, and Eggsy had to deal with them before they come to attack them.

“Take care of your wounds, I’ve got to kill the rest of those things. Don’t worry, I’ll avenge your arm.” Eggsy said to which Jane had laughed to.

Then he continued as he slaughtered all twenty zombies till there was no one left. The time he spent hadn’t been up to fifteen minutes and all hundred zombies had been killed.

[1000 Exp Received!]

[100 Energy points received]

[Quest Completed!]

[Reward: Instant level up!]

[You are now in level two]

[Exp: 1000/2999]

Eggsy couldn’t be more excited as he received these messages from the system. The completion of the quest had given him an instant level up to level two, and he was more glad when his 1000 Exp from killing hundred zombies got carried over to the next level.

However, his excitement was short lived as he realised that he still had Hank to face. He went towards Jane who now had her arms tied up with a piece of cloth. Then she rolled down the long sleeve shirt she wore so as to prevent the others from noticing. He helped her up as they walked away from the dead corpse of the zombies.

Talking about the others, Eggsy glanced towards the room where he expected the others to be coming out of, but so far, he hadn’t seen anyone, so he started approaching the door with Jane.

“Did something happened to them?” This was the question on the mind of the two of them.

His eyes blazed with a fierce determination, and his jaw was set in a resolute line, as if daring Hank to make a move.
