Chapter 2

"Come here, Henry." A recognizable and raspy voice sounded out at that very moment.

It was his mother, Eleanor. She seemed exhausted and worn out. Despite only being in her forties, she had snow-white hair.

His mother's strength seemed to have been depleted after speaking those few words.

Henry rushed to her side when he heard her voice. He was moved by her plight and suggested to her, "It is time for you to go to sleep, Mom. The weather is awful, and it's best not to walk around."

Eleanor took a big breath and waved her hand in the air. "Henry, you've matured a lot. There's something I want to tell you. Your father is still alive. George Anderson is his name."

"George Anderson?" Henry was in disbelief and shock. "You said he was dead a long time ago. You didn't even tell me his name. Also, this is the name of the country's wealthiest man."

"This isn't a coincidence. Your father is George Anderson, the country's wealthiest man and president of the Anderson Group!" Eleanor was honest with Henry. It heaved a heavy weight from her shoulders.

Henry hadn't anticipated that George Anderson, a well-known man, was his father.

He should never have deserted his wife and son, no matter how wealthy he was!

Henry loathed his father. With an unflinching expression, he said, "So, after all this time, why hasn't he returned to visit us? We've been doomed to misery for all these years while he's been living a nice life someplace else!"

Christopher, the butler, said, "Your father is in the midst of a multi-billion-dollar deal with a foreign corporation. He's not able to return at this crucial point in time. He specifically requested that I be here for him."

Eleanor's eyes welled up with tears as she smiled bitterly. "This is all my fault. There's nothing wrong with what your father did. Henry, my sincere wish is that you won't have any ill feelings against him. He has had a lot more difficult life than we could have ever imagined."

Henry remained silent after hearing his mother's remarks, but conflicting emotions tore within him.

He had never met his father in the preceding twenty years, not even once.

His father had been dead in his eyes for a long time.

But suddenly, he was informed that not only was his father still alive, but that he was also the wealthiest person in the nation!

Henry was left reeling after hearing this shocking news.

Christopher was aware of Henry's resentment against his father. Pitifully, he said, "Because of the circumstances, your father was compelled to leave you. He left you and your mother in a hurry because he almost perished in the onslaught of his foes.

Now that he has all of Hernandez's resources under his control and has exterminated all of his opponents, he can return to you and your mother"

After a brief delay, he fetched a credit card from his bag and presented it to Henry.

The look on Christopher's face softened, and he murmured apologetically, "He gave you this credit card in order to make up for the years he'd been absent. It's a way for him to make up for not being a good and obliged parent."

"'A credit card?" Henry inquired with a wary brow.

He refused to accept it.

His gaze was drawn to the credit card in his hand. The black diamonds on the black card were stunning.

Henry had not seen such a credit card in the last two decades.

"The one hundred million dollars in your account is nothing more than pocket money. If the amount does not suffice, you have the option of taking out an unlimited overdraft!" Christopher remarked.

"Unlimited overdraft!?" Henry was amazed. He forced a strong swallow and licked his parched lip. He had never imagined that he would ever have so much money at his disposal.

He could obtain as much money as he wished with this card. If he so desired, he could even erect a skyscraper.

"There are numerous properties owned by your father in this city. He wants you to manage a small hotel for him."

"l'm still in school. No, I don't think it's a good idea to give up my education to work at a small hotel."

Christopher didn't anticipate that Patrick would refuse him. His sharpness of perception was something Christopher was delighted about.

There's no doubt about it; the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!'

"It's a five-star establishment. You won't have to spend a lot of time or effort on it. It's A.G.N Hotel, if my recollection is correct."

Christopher spoke casually as if this five-star hotel was no different from any other regular hotel!

"A.G.N Hotel? How could that be a small hotel?"

Surprised, Henry reacted. What an affluent man his father must have been!

He remembered the incident at the hotel where he had been insulted, and a cold light shone in his eyes.

He felt the sorrow of the humiliation he had endured in his heart. He had never been able to enter the hotel.

But now, he had the opportunity to avenge himself.

"Fine! I agree, but this is just short-term. I'll manage the hotel until I meet my father."

"Don't be worried. It is just a matter of time until you meet your father."

Christopher made a passing mention of George's travails in the corporate world during the past two decades.

Despite his wealth, George had gone through a lot in his life. A number of his competitors had rebuffed him and even bankrupted him a number of times. But he was able to go through it all on his own.

"You will have a difficult time running a business like your father's. If you want to take over your father's business, you'll need the support of those key stockholders. You'll have to keep working with companies from other countries who've been working with us for a while. All of these things need your involvement." Christopher spoke earnestly, looking at Henry with a hopeful look.

Christopher desired that George would be succeeded by a capable individual.

He had high hopes that the successor would restore honor to the Anderson family.

The elderly man's eyes were wide open, and Henry could see his delight.

Henry believed that he was being entrusted with an important task.

He hadn't felt this much pressure and expectation in the preceding twenty years.

"From this point on, I am no longer that average Henry!"
