Swordsman Chronicles: Art of the Sword

CHAPTER 3

Upon seeing his family laying lifeless on the floor, Kendrick lost all hope in his life and is just going to offer himself to the demon in front of him. As he kneeled on the floor, his grief and despair has engulfed him so much that he is crying without tears falling from his face. He is thinking that he’ll die anyway, so why bother showing emotions when the people you love are now on the floor covered in their blood that is getting mixed with the blood of others. The scene was just brutal. Organs and flesh are scattered everywhere, and blood is just flooding the creaky wooden floor. Nothing can be done anymore; they are all dead and is being devoured by the evil demon. As Kendrick knelt there, the demon suddenly took notice of him as it turned around. The face cannot be seen because of the darkness that is eating its entire appearance; however, Kendrick can tell that this demon is hideous. The demon stood p as Vincent can here the blood of his family dripping from the mouth and hands of the demon as it also hits the floor. The demon then slowly approached Kendrick because it just saw its dessert. And when Kendrick is now prepared to be eaten and die alongside his family, he then suddenly looked at where his family was laying lifeless and that’s when he saw that the priest, Father Edgar was still breathing and is putting pressure on his neck because it has been slit by the demon. The demon who was walking towards Kendrick noticed that Edgar was still alive, so it shifted its attention back at him and approached him instead. A light shined at Kendrick and his instincts are telling him to defend the person who he considers as his father. Kendrick then regained his composure as he then stood up and picked the knives back up again as the demon then realized what is happening. Kendrick pointed the knives at the demon as tears flowed down his cheeks as he was somehow relieved to see that the priest was alive.

“Get the fuck here, you dirty demon! I’ll send you back to hell where you belong!” Kendrick bellowed.

The demon went back to Kendrick as a fight then suddenly erupted. It attacked Kendrick, and because of Kendrick’s so-so experience in battles, he was able to match this monster. But kitchen knives won’t be enough to beat this one. Kendrick took it outside to prevent the demon from using his father as a human shield, so, the two took it outside and they continued their battle there along with the other swordsmen and women who are also fighting the demons around the station. As the light hits the demon that attacked Kendrick’s family, it revealed an absolute hideous and ugly face. A demon that has this humanoid form, has teeth coming out of its mouth and throat and it was black. It was drenched in blood as it licked off the blood off its lips. Kendrick was enraged to see the monster who killed off his family as he then began to attack. There are fights everywhere, but one of the swordsmen saw what is happening beneath the station,

“Hey! Look below us!” called a Black swordsman as the comrades near him then looked down while they defend themselves from the demons.

“Didn’t we evacuate everyone in these parts? How come there’s a student fighting off a humanoid demon down there?” asked the black man as he then slashed a demon which turned into dust immediately.

“Yes! I’m sure we evacuated them all, I am sure of it because I am one of the people who evacuated the citizens!” replied a blonde girl who is fending off a large demon that was throwing debris at her as she slices it with her sword.

“In any case, the kid is in danger! Hurry up and save him already! Based on the demon he is fighting; it will not be long before the kid collapses!” ordered the Black man as they all then went to try to finish things quickly as something is happening.

They clearly missed something while evacuating the citizens, and if they have confirmed that it is true, then they will get an earful from their superior and it will not be good as it will lead to them being suspended because of this mistake. Kendrick and the demon are now fighting under the station as the demon is clearly stronger than Kendrick. Demons are at their peak when they eat humas before battle, and unfortunately, this bastard has eaten an entire family, so its strength can be compared to the demons outside the walls even though Kendrick has no experience in fighting one. The demons he fought was the mutt demon which tackled him earlier, but that demon was weak and is usually being used as a training tool for up-and-coming swordsmen trying out for the big leagues. When the demon growled and swung its hand with sharp claws down at Kendrick to attack him, Kendrick used one of the knives he is using and blocked the attack. But the attack was too strong that it snapped the knife in two. That means that in a situation of life and death, Kendrick only has a single kitchen knife that he needs to use to defend himself and attack the foul demon. This is not enough clearly since these demons are not going to get killed by this kind of weapon, especially when this demon he is fighting is obviously a higher rank one that is supposed to be outside. As he starts to panic, Kendrick didn’t notice that the demon was aiming for another attack on his chest. The result of his lack of concentration, he was hit on the chest and was sent flying. He bursts through one of the pillars that was supporting the station and that was enough to make the entire station collapse to the ground. The swordsmen and women fighting above jumped as the floor they are stepping on is now collapsing. But the demons followed them, and a fight broke out midair with no footing at all. It wasn’t long when the entire station was reduced to rubble. The demon Kendrick was fighting avoided getting crushed by the debris, but Kendrick did not make it as he was the cause of the collapse. He was buried in debris as the demon then considered him dead and there is no way that it will dig that kid up as it is already over before the fight had even started. There was no actual chance that Kendrick can put up a fight against a being like that demon with that kind of abilities of an idiot. The demon just smirked as it then began to walk away and resume its dinner inside the church before the battle between his kind and the swordsmen could end. It left without knowing that Kendrick was saved from being buried alive by a freaking vending machine who covered him up and withstood the falling debris. But that doesn’t mean he was unscathed. He has injuries all right, and he can feel that his ribs are broken, and he is now feeling that he is about to pass out any second now because of the number of injuries he received and the fact that there is no air to breathe in in this situation. As he loses hope once more, the booming man’s voice inside his head began to say something again,

“Look at your left!” boomed the voice as Kendrick then followed the voice.

 He looked at his left to see a dead swordsman buried under this big rock. His sword was in his hand and Kendrick got the idea know. So, he crawled towards the sword and once he reached it, he quickly paid respect to the one who died and gave him this short prayer and he apologized for using his sword, but Kendrick really needs it. He took the sword and the scabbard as he then bursts his way out of the rubble with all his strength. The demon sensed his presence as it then turned around to be surprised by the fact that Kendrick was not buried alive and is here, alive and kicking and is also willing to fight him again. The demon grinned as it then charged at Kendrick again. Kendrick prepared for battle as the demon launched an attack on him. The nasty demon swung its claws down at Kendrick, but he blocked it with the scabbard he was holding. He then slashed the demon’s chest with the sword he was holding as it snarled in pain. The demon swings his other claws as Kendrick blocked it with the scabbard too by shifting it to his left hand and he then slashed the monster again as blood came out of the wounds. The demon stepped away as it cannot afford to be hit by that sword again as it will be mean the end for him. But Kendrick will not give the demon some space as he then pounced at the demon and attacked it randomly. The attacks were so fast and random that the demon could not see it anymore. And the fact that every swing is filled with anger just makes every attack stronger.         It wasn’t long before the demon sustained enough injuries that it then knelt to the road as it was just overwhelmed by Kendrick’s sheer strength. Kendrick then pointed the tip of the sword in the throat of this monster as the demon smirked at him,

“Die, you motherfucker!”  Kendrick raged as he then decapitated the monster as blood splattered on his face and the demon just turned to dust.

Kendrick let go of the sword as he then rushed towards their church. He went back to their bedroom and quickly approached the only person who is alive.

“Hey, F-Father,” Kendrick stuttered as tears finally trickled down his face along with the blood of the demon who just killed his entire family.

The priest looked at Kendrick, and even though he is now losing his vision, he is just so glad to see the kid whom he took in when he was left on the doorstep of his church. The kid who stayed when everyone left him because of an issue that has not been confirmed. Edgard took off the pressure on his throat as he then touched Kendrick’s face with his bloody hands.

“K-Ken?” the priest called as he coughs out blood and his heart was dropping.

Kendrick held his hand as he cries,

“Yes, Father. I am here.” Kendrick sobbed as he kissed the hand of the person who he considers as his father.

“R-Remember your p-promise. Be s-safe m- my son, be strong. I and your siblings will always love you, my son.” Edgar hushed as he then slipped into an eternal slumber.

Kendrick who was devasted just cried aloud as he cannot accept the fact that the only people he can only consider as his family is now gone, just because of some demon who killed them. The grief and hatred he are feeling right now is overwhelming him. As he let out his grief, the swordsmen and women outside have just finished fighting the demons and is now on the streets and is looking for Kendrick. And then they saw this sword lying on the curb with blood on it. They then produced a conclusion that Kendrick fought the demon himself and is now somewhere near this place. But where exactly is he? But then, one of the swordsmen heard some crying inside this rundown church and they all went in there, swords drawn, to investigate. That is when they saw Kendrick, holding a dead and soaked in blood priest in his arms as a few more children lay on the floor, dead. This is the part when the swordsmen knew they screwed up. Six people died on their watch, and it is not a good thing. Their mistake led to a kid battling a demon to avenge his family. They then took off their blue hats as they paid respect to the innocent people that has been killed because of their mistake. Kendrick who was crying then zoned out. And this is when he vowed something. He vowed to avenge his family by killing every demon in the world. And he will start by joining the swordsman crops. This is when Kendrick Griffin have found a reason to live. He will study and train the art of the sword for vengeance.
