CHAPTER FIVE

Kevin was in a dilemma. He sure as hell wanted to be as handsome and as dashing as a model which would attract girls but then he recalled Mickey, the guy from his ex-girlfriend's party. He was not that good looking but clearly he had ample amount of cash to throw around which was why he had Vanessa all over him. He did not want to be the broke yet handsome jock but even more, he was scared that he would change totally to a complete stranger.

"Money." he muttered under his breath.

The moment he said that, he was waiting patiently for the money to probably fall from above but nothing happened. He started counting the seconds and by the time he was reaching sixty seconds, he was already nearly giving hope as it felt like a really long time when at exactly one minute, his phone chimed his message tone. Kevin wondered who it was as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He was met with a total shocker as well as surprise which he found hard to believe.

There was an alert message from his bank that $2000 had been transferred to his account. Unbelievable!!!

Kevin stared at his screen over and over again as he could not believe what he was looking at. Sincerely, he had never made that much amount of money before in his entire life and then he read through the alert to see the sender. The name description from whence he had gotten it was tagged with three X's that made him even more confused. Kevin did not want to believe it as he thought that perhaps this was all fake.

There was only one way to find out and he started walking down the street. He saw shops around and then he came across one he always had his eyes on. Each time he passed this popular boutique, he usually stood watching the clothes worn on the mannequins in the display areas. He never actually had money for it but now, he sincerely wanted to try it out. Who knows, he just might have struck a fortune.

Kevin walked straight into the store and he met the eyes of the aggressive old lady that usually sees him wandering outside and staring at the clothes back in the days. He smiled at her and was about browsing through the male section when she walked up to him.

"What are you doing?" she demanded angrily.

"I'm shopping ma'am." he said with a smile.

She closed her eyes and when she opened it, she looked really furious as she started pointing to the door area.

"Get out!!!" she said to him really angry now.

"But why? I have done nothing wrong." Kevin objected.

"You really think so? Well I guess you missed your way boy, this place is not for the likes of you. I have been gracious enough to let you watch the clothes back then because you were not stealing." she said angrily now.

"I do not understand. What do you mean by the likes of me?" he asked.

"Oh yeah, want me to spell it out for you? Alright then, this is an exclusive store and we do not do thrifts here. We sell original stuff. You need clothes sold in cents, I heard there is a shop for your thrift wears just down the street." she said.

"I do not understand ma'am. I don't want no thrift wear, I want to shop here." he said.

"Come on, you cannot afford it. Listen young man, I'm being nice now. Enough with your silly games. You should leave before I call security on you." she said.

"No. I would pay for what I pick out. Just let me shop, madam." he said to her.

"I've had enough of your games. Security!!!" she raised her voice calling out loudly as the hefty looking man started approaching them.

"Do we have trouble here?" he asked, looking ready to beat Kevin to pulp.

"I came here to shop and I have my card here, she says I cannot shop." Kevin explained.

"That's not true, this kid came here to shoplift and I'm being nice enough to ask him to leave." she said.

"Shoplift? That's a lie!!! See I have my card here." he said, pulling it out from his back pocket quickly.

"Ignore him, I know this guy. He has nothing in that card. Take him away." she said.

"Sir, I would have to escort you out now before we call in the cops." the security was saying to him.

But Kevin was not having that. He knew well enough that if he walked away that easily, she would be taken seriously. He still wanted to give it a try. So, he resisted. He insisted that he would be going nowhere as he had come to shop as every other person. The ruckus between them had caught the attention of the other shoppers as they all turned now to look in their direction. The security man was trying to reach for him.

"Don't you dare lay your hands on me." Kevin warned angrily.

"You should cooperate with him." the old woman said.

"What's happening here?" a young woman suddenly walks in clearly one of the sales managers here from her badge.

She looked around and then the old woman gave her tale while Kevin gave his own still insisting he wanted to shop just as everyone else. He showed her his card which he handed to her as he said they were free to call the cops on him if it does not work.

Matter of fact, he was scared of the outcome. But recalling what had happened at the painter's showroom, he wanted to trust whatever this was that had been communicating with him. The young woman decided that she would oversee it and asked him to pick out what things he wanted and meet her at the counter where she was waiting with the old lady and the security man. Kevin went around and found just what he was looking for. He pointed at it and the attendant brought it down.

"That would be $367 but I would make it $499 and give you your change as we have a round figure policy." the lady said to him.

He nodded that he was aware and then she swiped his card in the machine. Kevin at this point held his breath because he was uncertain as to what the outcome would be. Sincerely, he did not want anymore embarrassment at this point which was why he breathed out in relief when the system beeped to certify his purchases.

"Told you so." he said to the older woman. Some customers that had been paying attention cheered and then returned to their business.

The young manager then turned to the both of them and scolded them for their discriminative behavior. They would be brought before the head managers.

"I'm really sorry." The old woman apologized followed by the security man.

Kevin stared at them both as he pocketed his card.

"Sometimes, do not judge the book by its cover." he said as he took his packages and made to leave.

"Sir, wait, your change." the young lady was saying.

Proudly now, Kevin looked over his shoulder.

"Keep the change." he said as he walked away smiling from ear to ear. He might yet be starting to enjoy this game.
