Chapter 4: New Mission

Bruce is a student at the Officer Military School in Carthage. He only stayed in school because of his mother wanted him to have a decent degree. Bruce decided to fulfill his mother's only hope. Hence, after leaving the Waylen family, Bruce decided to go to another city named Carthage and start his life as an ordinary person.

Bruce had hoped to start his day peacefully, but he was greeted by an unpleasant sight as he reached the school gate. There stood a couple who had betrayed him and broken his heart. The same couple he had seen at the party.

The boy sneered at him and said, “Oh, look who’s late again. Do you think you can get into university with this attitude?”

“Bruce, leave me alone. We’re over. Don’t you get it?” The girl said with a cold voice. She thought Bruce was still clinging to her.

Bruce ignored them; he felt nothing but disgust for them. They were Mateo Kovacic and Valerie Brown.

Valerie was Bruce’s former girlfriend. They used to be happy together, or so Bruce thought. But then she cheated on him with Mateo, who was from a rich family.

Bruce was angry at first, but he soon realized that they were not worth his time. He had nothing to do with them anymore. He just wanted to focus on his studies and his future.

“Valerie, I have no interest in you or your relationship. I’m here to learn, not to talk to you. Please stay out of my way because I'm moving on,” Bruce said calmly and walked past them to enter the school building.

Valerie felt a pang of anger in her chest. She expected Bruce to beg her to come back to him. She had prepared a speech to reject him harshly. She did not anticipate Bruce’s cold response.

Suddenly, Mateo stepped in front of Bruce and blocked his way. He smiled wickedly and whispered, “You know, I have to thank you, Bruce. Your girlfriend is so hot, but you never laid a finger on her.”

Mateo hoped that Bruce would lose his temper and start a fight with him. He was surprised that Bruce only gave him a look full of contempt.

“Mateo, you are pathetic. Valerie is your girlfriend now, right? Why are you going to tell me about your sex life? Well, if that’s what the shit you in, I won’t stop you. But you know that means both of you are such a cunt and a whore. Let me know the price of your tape when is out!”

Bruce looked at Mateo with a smile full of contempt. Mateo felt like an idiot when Bruce looked at him like that. He yelled furiously, “What the fuck is wrong with you? Didn’t your mum teach you anything when you were a little lad?”

System: "Mission one: Teach your opponent a lesson. Reward: Two Expertise Points. Time limit: 10 minutes. There is no penalty if you fail this mission."

Seeing Bruce's grim face, Mateo felt satisfied. "Looks like he's about to lose control," he thought as he gloated inwardly.

"I told you, I don't give a fuck what happens between you and your girlfriend. I have seen enough last night. Your bullshit is not going to phase me. But, how dare you insult my mum."

Bruce looked at Mateo with a cold aura. This time, Mateo had gone too far. Everyone had their sensitive topics. For Bruce, that topic was his mother.

Whether there was a mission or not, Bruce wanted to teach Mateo a lesson. For Valerie's problem, he didn't care. There was no reason for him to think about a stranger he already had no relationship.

Hearing those words, Mateo involuntarily gulped. He didn't know where that frightening aura came from. However, he thought he was hallucinating, so he took it for granted. Mateo looked at Bruce mockingly and said, "You're just a fucking poor man. Huh!"

Bruce didn't answer; he clenched his fists and walked to Mateo.

Mateo was surprised by the response, but he leaned towards Bruce and taunted again, "What's up? Do you want to say it with your hand? The go for it. If you dare, come hit me. Come on. Show it with your hand. I said, punch me. I bet you don't have the guts even if I give you..."

"Well, I'll grant your request now."

Mateo was stunned to hear that. A moment later, a red mark from a fist stained his face.

"Ouch!" Mateo staggered backwards after receiving the blow.

"We're at school. You're fucking dead now! I'll fucking report your ass. How dare you hit your mate. Just wait; you'll be punished."

Mateo held his face in annoyance. He did not expect Bruce actually to hit him.

Bruce flexed his wrist and said, "Why are some people ungrateful in the world? You asked me to say it with my hand. As an officer-to-be, I fulfilled your request after seeing how much you wanted me to."

"How dare you. Does the school teach an officer to behave like this?"

Valerie looked at Bruce with a gaze full of disbelief. During their relationship, Valerie felt that Bruce was just a boy with average grades and an honest personality. Those two things attracted her to Bruce in the beginning. But now, she felt as if she no longer dared to look directly at Bruce.

"Valerie, you don't need to play with your cheap mouths. I don't hate you for breaking up with me or setting me up as the bad guy. Anyway because I know you will regret it someday. Besides, we're at school. A place where we are all honourable students. So, don't think you can do whatever you want because you have a rich lad to back you up. Also, you can tell his mate to stop playing with the graveyard if they don't want to taste the death by themself"

Bruce glanced at the girl who no longer meant anything to him before turning to enter the school building.

Valerie opened her mouth, but she could not utter a single word. Her throat constricted as she remembered the boy who treated her like a jewel, who cooked for her, who took care of her when she was sick, and always found a way to make her smile when she was sad.

At that moment, Valerie felt as if she had lost something important.

"Did I fuck up the good thing?" the girl pondered.

As Bruce entered the school gates, security guards surrounded him. They saw him punching Mateo outside the school gates.

They couldn't believe an 18-year-old student could be knocked out so quickly in a single punch. That incident only showed how cruel Bruce was.

"A-as a student at Officer Military School, how can you punch another officer candidate? That's too much. You are so uncivilised!"

The security guards reprimanded Bruce, but it was clear that no one dared to step forward and deal with a student who was strong enough to knock another student out in one blow. If they got to hit that hard, they might be lucky to return without broken bones.

"He asked me to do it. So as a good future officer, then I just fulfilled his request. There's no need to thank me. After all, I didn't do anything wrong," Bruce said firmly.

"Anyway, I'm a student in the Defence Administration class. If you want to find me, I'll be in class. Stay in the right building. My name is Bruce, and I'm willing to accept responsibility from the school."
