Somewhere at another part of that street, inside a dojo, the stench of blood was heavy in the air, very heavy.
All around the main room of the dojo, corpses of different types lay with dire and devious wounds on their vital points.Thud!Another corpse dropped, without so much as a scream or a sound, as blood quickly pooled underneath it.The killer walked to the corner of the room, not minding all the bodies around, and took a napkin and wiped the blood from the katana used.In the dim room, the outline of the killer's face showed. Fair in complexion, golden long hair tied to a ponytail, neon amber eyes, a sharp nose, plump lips, a sharp chin and a very cold expression. She exhaled and brandished her katana and looked towards the last living thing in the room, walking slowly towards it with a cold and calculating gaze.“Blradl jshehisn krjdb!” The goblin at the corner of the room, who was on its arse and its back touching the wall, uttered. It sounded like gibberish but this goblin was pleading with grey tears streaming from its eyes, its long nose dripping snot. It stretched out its hand, shaking it frantically in utter horror as it shook its head as well, eyes filled with regret. They had trooped en masse to the dojo because they smelt the fear of the civilians taking refuge inside. The goblin horde wiped out the students of the dojo and the civilians but we're also wiped out by this female and her master. Her master who had died in a fight with an Ogre Brute, both of them killing each other.“You came to kill, laughing maniacally. You took everything from me and now you're begging for mercy?” The lady said softly as she brandished her weapon once more before raising it.“Tell your friends I said hi.” She added as she slashed downwards, cleaving the goblin diagonally. She had expected blood to squirt and stain the walls but an explosion of light happened instead, like a flashbang without the ‘bang’.The goblin was surprised that it was still alive. It scrutinised itself as though its body was alien to it.While it was about to be joyful, another cleave came again, this one reaping its life.‘What was that?’She asked herself and was about to inspect the corpse of the goblin when a screen popped up in front of her.[You've received 95 coins for slaying an Awakened Grade 9 Goblin.][Your soul is getting stronger.][Congratulations, you are now an Awakened Grade 7 entity.][+5 points to all stats.]“I ascended again.” She sighed and continued to inspect the corpse of the goblin till she found a dark stone inside its chest.“Huh…” She uttered curiously and yanked it out of the gash in its chest.[[Skill Stone Information]][Item Name: Fragment of Eternity (Fake)]Her eyes widened at the name.‘Fragment of Eternity? That sounds too powerful. It's fake though.’She continued reading the information on the screen.[Item Class: Epic][Item Description: An illegally acquired aspect of the Goddess of Life and Fertility.]“...” She was speechless at the description. She read the description multiple times to take in what she was seeing.“Illegally acquired aspect? How does this runt possess something that belongs to a goddess?” She soliloquized, unable to understand how such an item was doing in the hands of a baseless monster. She looked at the last line on the screen and turned her gaze to the skill stone in her hand.[Crush the stone to claim the skill]She crushed the stone and an ethereal golden light enveloped her being, infusing her with the skill inside.[Skill ‘Fragment of Eternity’ has been absorbed]She exhaled, her already glowing eyes more glaring. She summoned the skill tab and read about the skill.Essentially, it was a healing skill and it had three aspects; The first aspect granted her the ability to heal herself and others from various life threatening wounds as long as they were not dead. The second aspect allowed her health to be restored back to 100% if it ever hit zero but it had a cooldown time of three weeks. That was what happened with the goblin. The third aspect allowed her to cleanse or purify anyone of negative statuses such as poison, slowness and other things while also granting her the ability to buff whatever was purified. The first and third aspects were active while the second one was passive. She smiled, content with what she saw. She was jolted back to reality by sounds of an explosion and roars of a beast. She frowned and sheathed her katana, letting it glitch into her inventory and left the dojo.…A 9-foot tall pale blue humanoid appeared around the corner just as the cohort had slain the Asphalt Golem.[An Awakened Grade 8, Ogre Brute, has set its sights on you. Survive!]Everyone was drained in a way and they could not afford to fight another monster.Yes, the monster was on par with just one of them in terms of class and grade but it had its energy intact and more health than each of them. The monster raised its leg and kicked the nearest target, Nelson. He couldn't dodge in time and was sent flying by the blow, his ribs shattering and blood escaping his mouth as he hit the house at the end of the street at a T-junction.[-60 HP][You have been stunned for 10 seconds]“Arrgh!” Nelson groaned as he tried to get up but his body didn't respond to him.He cursed and looked ahead to see the monster barrelling down on the rest of the cohort.Eric snapped out of his daze and sent an arc of heat towards the ogre, thanks to the dagger. The slash hit the ogre, cutting it and drawing blood. It roared and turned its attention towards Eric, rage evident in its eyes.It raised its arms and brought them down fast, faster than Eric could react but his mind's speed was faster than his body.‘All skill points to the durability stat now!’He mentally ordered the system and promptly, it answered.[+12 Durability points][Durability: 22]The arms landed on Eric and Eric was supposedly flattened.“Eric!” The rest of the cohort shouted in unison and horror.Chuck pointed at the ogre and the two undead imps flew towards the ogre. The Ogre noticed them however and threw a quick punch at one of them, reducing the corpse to pieces of decaying flesh. The other got close and swiped at the ogre's face, mutilating its eye with its claws. Even dead, it retained its attribute of ‘Claws of The Sun’ so it wasn't a pleasant experience for the ogre. The ogre removed its second hand from on top of Eric and tried to pry off the imp from its face. As it fought off the imp another one joined in the attack and attacked the second eye, biting and clawing with its hand and leg.Eric shuddered inside the crater, his eyes bloodshot and nose bleeding.“Goddamn! That hurt like a… hrgg!” Eric cursed amidst gritted teeth. He pushed himself up from the ground and wobbled before stumbling again. That blow had taken away a whopping 35 HP from his health bar. If not for his quick thinking, he would have sustained a more dire injury. He laughed in pain as he regained balance before retreating towards Erica, staggering.Erica met him and embraced him.She wanted to ask him something when a screen popped up in all of their faces.[Stage 3, World Saturation, of the World Awakening has commenced. A moment of silence for the humans who rejected the system.]“Just how many damn stages does this main event have?!” Chuck shouted in frustration as he watched the last of his mana extinguish. He could no longer rouse dead imps in the area....[Stage 3, World Saturation, of the World Awakening had commenced. A moment of silence for the humans who rejected the system.]This message was seen by every human who had accepted the system. For the cohort, there was no time to acknowledge the message because the ogre was free from the persistent undead imps. Its face was mangled and only one of its eyes was destroyed by the attacks but it was still very much okay… and vengeful. It looked towards the crater it had made when it smashed Eric and found out that Eric was still pretty much alive.‘Dammit!’ Eric cursed inwardly as he equipped his dagger, readying himself.Meanwhile, Nelson was already on his feet. Although bleeding and covered in dust and blood, he appeared fine as he stretched himself.Merely breathing was a chore but his awakened body could bear with it.He looked at his profile tab meticulously to see what he could do.[[Profile Tab]][Name: Nelson Makker][Race: Human][Level: 5][Title: None][i][Class: Awakened][i]
“I wonder what this third stage of world saturation means for humans without the system.” Eric randomly stated, as they ate dinner. They had gathered the foodstuffs from the house where they were.“Give it a rest OG fodder! You've said this thing more than twelve times! I'll smack you skull if you mention it again! Fawk!” Nelson cursed, clearly tired of hearing Eric talk about it.“It's simple really. A moment of silence isn't for the living. Whatever changes the third stage brings is probably killing the people without the system.” Amy made a wild guess as she put a piece of cucumber and bacon in her mouth. They were eating a cucumber tomato salad with bacon.“Hey Amy, what's your intelligence stat?” Chuck changed the topic and gazed at the pretty lady.Everyone on the table, except Amy and Chuck, chuckled whilst expecting her answer.“29 intelligence points.” Amy replied casually, putting another piece of the food in her mouth.Eric, who was drinking water from a glass, nearly choke
The Demon Imp Monarch towered over the six humans, its grotesque silhouette stretching ominously across the destroyed street. Its six eyes, glowing with a malevolent crimson light, bore into them with a chilling intensity, stripping away any semblance of hope or courage. With every breath, it exudes an aura of pure malice, filling the air with a palpable sense of dread. As its gaze swept over them, the humans felt a cold shiver run down their spines, realising they were nothing more than insignificant prey in the presence of this ancient evil.'So evil… To think those Grade 9 Imps would have a form as peak as this.’ Eric gritted his teeth as he had this thought. The Lesser Demon Imps looked nothing like this, if anything they were like nymphs or day old spawn of this abomination. The area around the Imp Monarch was scorching hot, but it was bearable to an extent. A normal human would have gotten heat stroke in just one minute of staying in its presence.Nelson swallowed hard, real
Potato chips, chocolate, marshmallows, cookies and a lot of soda were everywhere in the stores either on the ground, on counters or in their inventories.“Apart from snacks and various edibles, we'd need medical items and toiletries. Pack up quick!” Eric said before clapping.“Who the hell are you ordering around shrimp? Do what you like, just don't order me.” Amy said as she packed several edibles into her inventory.Eric glanced at her and smirked softly before walking to the counter and getting a brown carton.“What do you need that for? Just put the stuff into your inventory straight up. Why do you need a carton?” Chuck said a pair of raw hotdog packs glitching away from his hands. “It's wiser that way, yuuno?”“As expected of someone with a system IQ of ten.” Amy quipped causing the others to chuckle.Chuck, clearly displeased, interjected.“It's common sense guys. Why do you need a carton? Why would you even need it?” Eric sighed, and explained before the poor guy embarrasses h
“A truly dangerous skill.” Erica said, remembering how she hadn't even sensed the assailant.“Ah. Guess who you killed.” Chuck said to Matt with a smirk plastered on his face.“Who?” Matt asked, his curiosity piqued.“The store cashier.” Chuck replied, pulling up the tag on the dead man's shirt.“...” Everyone was speechless after hearing that.Nelson and Eric folded their lips into their mouth, suppressing a potential laugh.“Damn.” Amy said, feigning regret and sorrow.…They had packed up whatever they needed in carts and segregated each of the categories to each people; Nelson's and Erica's inventory held the carts for food, Amy held the carts for medical items and Eric's inventory for ‘toilet stuffs’.Matt and Chuck got nothing, except what they had packed beforehand into their inventory.…“Yo Rich worm. Get over here, let's go dump your murder victim somewhere.” Nelson called unto Matt as he walked towards the cashier's corpse.“...” Matt frowned, ready to protest and reject th
“Guys, what the hell is a Kalekalip?” Matt asked as he continued to stare intently at the screen.“Doesn't ring a bell.” Chuck said, looking at others for clues.Amy shrugged indicating her obliviousness to the name. Erica and Nelson also shook their heads.“A screen says Armament Kalekalip 12.7mm AMR. I don't even know what it is. And there's two of them up there. Probably outside in the skyscraper.” Matt said in frustration and looked at everyone. He suddenly scowled when he noticed Eric with a sly smile.“Eric? What is a Kalekalip?” Matt asked with a subtle frown on his face.“Heh.” Eric's smile grew wider as he nudged invisible glasses as though adjusting them.Nelson frowned and walked up to him grabbed by the collar.“Hello there, you little scoundrel. I don't know if you understand the situation at hand but for some reason we're surrounded by people with weapons called a Kalekalip. What is it?” Nelson growled, staring intently at Eric, who for some reason even has a wider smile
The blonde bearded man and Drake, the goth, trained their snipers at the entrance of the store.Several smoke grenades were thrown by the men downstairs and some by the snipers. The men, all of them dressed like robbers in black, trooped for the entrance with guns in hand.“Halt!” The illusory voice came again, domineering as ever. The men found themselves unable to move despite how much they tried to move.Amy exhaled and tore open her eyes that shone a dangerous bright amber light. Her form turned ghostly and she disappeared from her position with a gust of wind in her position. An ethereal silver glint was seen by the seven figures that aimed to storm the store and with a metallic ring, Amy was behind all of them, facing away from them.Their attention was drawn to her automatically and as they hoped to move, Amy sheathed her katana. As soon as she did, the silver glint permeated the air again and a red fog covered the area. All seven men fell down to the ground, lifeless and decap
“I hope you burn in hell!” Eric spat on the corpse, stepped over them and returned to the main room of the store. He had now accepted that humans, whether in a perfect world or not, will continue to be humans. The world awakening that happened on earth has solidified the survival of this world as a dog-eat-dog survival strategy.Throwing literal predators into the world has made it so that one would have to kill or be killed.‘It doesn't have to be this way. If need be I'll grow stronger and hunt the system.’As soon as he had this thought, he could have sworn he heard a distant snickering sound. He wheeled to check on the corpse but analysis showed that they were dead.‘Huh, that's weird.’He continued on ignoring the sound that lasted for a second, ruminating over the fact that he had just killed a human.‘That was a necessary evil. I would have been the one to die instead.’He consoled himself internally and walked even faster, pushing the thought to the deepest parts of his mind.
Matt, after dumping frag grenades into the forest haphazardly, proceeded to conjure several clones of himself and clad them all in a protective and flexible armour. Each clone wielded a futuristic rifle and they all numbered up to seven excluding the main body. One of the rewards he received from the system after the rift expedition was a Trait evolution from Armament Creation to Digital Constructs. This not only allowed him to conjure up otherworldly futuristic weapons but also digital clones, armours, shields and basically anything else. He's limited by his own imagination and mana reserves. The best thing about it was that mana wasn't expended to maintain his constructs. He only consumed mana when creating or fixing his constructs as the very existence of those constructs were free of charge. If he happened to dismiss any of his construct or if they happen to be destroyed, he will receive half or a quarter of the mana used to conjure that construct respectively. “I'm going to ne
The following day came very fast and they were all gathered at the mouth of the cave, all around Eric. “Let's not forget that there will be opportunities for duels and gangbangs in this event so it'll test your prowess and how well you know how to use your abilities. Afterall, everyone here is a pinnacle entity of the Awakened class.” Eric started addressing his people. “I'm counting on that duel of a thing. ‘Tis one of the reasons I'm doing this in the first place.” Nelson said with a smirk. “Of course it is.” Chuck mumbled under his breath with a somewhat exasperated expression. “Oh don't worry, Chuck. You're not my prime prey, you're just the subsidiary prey.” Nelson said, comforting him. “Doesn't matter, Eric warned us not to underestimate anyone though. I pray you underestimate me, Nelson.” Chuck said as his face adopted a soft yet grim smile. “You'd be in for a surprise too.” After he said this, he chuckled darkly for a few moments, garnering several looks from the te
“Is that supposed to even be possible? It hasn't even been a week.” Matt said with utter surprise. “Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you, sincerely.” He quickly added and smiled. “So which one did you get?” “How about we let it be a surprise for you all. We haven't really consolidated our abilities ever since we were chased into the rift by that monster.” Eric stated with a soft smile and a raised finger. Everyone looked at Eric with suspicion and Nelson shook his head and sighed. “What do you have in mind, fodder?” He asked his friend. “I thought you said you wouldn't call him fodder again.” Chuck glanced at Nelson with a raised eyebrow. Nelson shot him a mean look causing Chuck to withdraw his gaze with a wry smile. “I propose that we have a free for all match, an all out duel with each other or some kind of capture the flag game with our powers being used.” Eric answered him with a smile. “What do you think? It's a way to let loose before something serious occurs again.” “I
“How's the hunt?” Erica asked the remaining members of the cohort that just arrived into the cave. “Futile. There are almost no animals or game in these woods.” Matt responded with frustration as he dismissed his shotgun construct, causing it to dissipate in a digital glitch-like manner. “Yeah, the forest was quite peaceful asides the occasional chirping of crickets and you know, normal forest ambiance.” Chuck added succinctly as he sat on a small rock and heaved a breath of relief. Chuck and Matt had gone out to search for food for the rest of the cohort while Maric and Mr. Baker went out to confirm where they were. “Nothing like I've seen before Eric.” Mr. Baker shook his head and sat down as he began recounting his scouting experience alongside Maric. Apparently they had gotten to land after the glacier and ocean current brought them here. And they got to this place on a misty night at the edge of a rocky cliff. “The forest on this part is quite normal, if I do say so myself.
About two weeks had passed since the whole chaos of bounties ensued and the people now knew the consequences of their actions. The rewards of the bounties were automatically deducted from the one issuing the bounty, regardless of whether they had money or not. This has left many to be destitute in system currency and even many casually hunted. If one didn't know how to change appearance or hide from skills like Analysis and the likes, the hunted would not live a safe life. Following this development, as well, was the creation of several factions dedicated to bounty hunting and they have more or less ‘culled’ the useless bounties and claimed rewards for themselves, leaving the truly dangerous ones. Eric and co had finally reached land and it was a forest of some sorts, not too dense and not too sparse. They were currently residing in a cave, unsure of the next move they'll make. Amy and Nelson, especially Amy, were despondent about the fact that they lost something valuable that day
Everyone was adrift above a massive glacier, despondent and drained of all emotions and strength. There was an active ocean current propelling the glacier towards an unknown direction. Amy was still asleep and Nelson’s condition had stabilised due to his self-regeneration but it was still far from optimal. “What do we do now?” Chuck asked with a serious tone, seeing that Eric was just staring at the horizon where Jasmine and the man left for about six hours. “Cut it out, Necromancer. Let him process his thoughts and talk at his own leisure.” Matt refuted Chuck and shook his head. ‘He’s probably regretting keeping that girl alive back then.’ Matt mused internally before shaking his head. Countless moments of silence passed and Eric finally stirred, clenching his fists. The first light of day was just appearing from the horizon, painting it with a tint of surreal orange hues. Erica stood up from her spot on the glacier and walked towards her brother in hopes to get through to him.
Both of them withdrew, leaving a distance of at least 25 metres between them, while panting and sweating profusely. ‘Two for the price of one. That's Karma for you, you bastard!’ Eric cursed internally before cracking a smile. “Abyssal Aura huh?” The man gauged the stone in his hands briefly before stowing it away in his inventory. After a moment's deliberation, he smiled and said; “Given the fact that it's from you, King Noel, it is utterly valuable. And Theft never lies, this is the heaviest skill you have and by the looks of it, you haven't even used it yet.” He then chuckled and rambled on, “I presume it's what makes you you and it is greater than the Samsara inheritance you possess. My mission here is complete, I even had some bonuses as well.” ‘Yeah, keep d*ck-riding yourself. Theft just got scammed by a higher skill, I'm the MC, you bastard. I'm Him! The Exclusive One!’ Eric chanted internally, his glee and happiness was immeasurable. Contrary to his feelings, his face w
Mr. Baker stretched his hands forward and encompassed the unconscious Amy in a forcefield bubble, quickly taking her away from the man’s presence. The man didn't bother stopping him because he had gotten what he wanted from her. Even if he wanted to stop them from taking her away, he might fail in doing so and it might prove fatal for him due to Eric's unstable state. “Is she alright?” Chuck came over and inspected her. Everyone also gathered around her in concern. Matt frowned his face and shook his head. “Although it's not Analysis, my Vital Vision is detecting an anomaly in her body. It's like a void or a vacuum in her essence-body.” Matt explained and deactivated his skill before adding succinctly. “Asides this, she's alive.” Erica pursed her lips, placing the back of her hand on her forehead. “She's… feverish. Dammit, what did that bastard do to her?” Erica cursed, an out-of-character behaviour because she was upset. “Two people should stay with Nelson and Amy while the
Eric watched with trepidation as the blackened hand of the man pulled a brightly glowing golden gemstone from Amy’s chest. It wasn't that he plunged his hands physically into her chest, rather, his skill allowed him to directly come in contact with all the essence of his target as well as all the various constituents within that target. It was putting your hands through a lake and pulling out whatever was inside. Basically, the heavier it was, the more valuable it seemed within the target.Amy was currently unconscious, held up by the man's grip on her neck and oblivious to whatever was going on.“Erica!” Eric called out to her twin, who swiftly responded. She came over and took Nelson from him while Eric ran forward insanely fast to take Amy from the hands of the man.The two other clones have been dispatched with one crumbling totally into decaying flesh and putrid blood and darkened pus-like substance while the other was totally obliterated and mauled by Maric's weapons and Matt's
