Bad luck had been Gabe’s best friend for as long as he knew this world, and so he was not all that surprised to hear that Rick and others advised against marrying him. Gabe could only force himself to smile because Rick was at least honest about it.

“Are you married now?” Rick asked.

“No, but I’m trying,” Gabe replied in a bit of a disappointed voice.

Rick put his hand on the side of Gabe’s shoulder. “Take this as an old man’s advice to a struggling young man. Before thirty, you think you can marry whenever you want, but once you go past that thirty mark, you’ll have to roam until your sandals wear out, and there’ll still be no guarantee that you’ll get married. It’s even worse for women who are past thirty and are still unmarried.” He slightly frowned. “My daughter is in her mid twenties, and she’s so obese she wouldn’t be able to walk down the passenger’s aisle because her butt is too big.
