Beeping signals flashed as they got closer to Maradoit. They had run out of gas. Adam told everyone to calm down, and he went to the front to meet Matteo and his co-pilot, Zacchaeus When he asked how long they had before the engines shut off, Raphael was the one who answered. “Five minutes” Matteo nodded. “Then what next?” “We will have to switch to glide,” Zachaeus responded. “Can you land it while it is in glide?” Adam asked Matteo. “Yes, I can. It will be a rough landing but I can.” “How many minutes to Maradoit?” “Twenty minutes” “Can the airplane stay in the air for that long after it runs out of fuel?” “Yes, it can,” Matteo responded. “Then I had better tell everyone to brace themselves,” Adam said. And that was what he did. He explained everything in detail to everyone and answered their questions too. Soon enough, they were in Maradoit. The jarring way the plane hit the runway had them all holding on to something for safety. The same sound alerted the zombies
Adam told some of the men to clean up the dead bodies.Since they were smelling already and their skin was already peeling off when someone tried to lift them.Adam suggested they add them to the pile of zombies outside. That way, they could burn the pile at once."We have tempted fate enough" he added.Referring to the fact that they had been lucky not to have seen any beast yet.It wouldn't do to deliberately invite them by leaving bodies everywhere in the open.Especially since they do not know if the beasts were only around Alagan or if the effect that produced them had spread as far as Maradoit.Nothing could be taken for granted. So, as the men got started with the gruesome task of carting the bodies away, Adam collected the key from John. After confirming with Ryan that it was the same key and that he was sure that he kept the key on the hook and nowhere else; Adam went to the stable building to see if it had been tampered with.He wanted to go alone but the worried look on Mar
Adam ended the zombie’s misery as fast as possible. He shot it point blank in the brain with the silencer-fitted gun he had with him. Then they searched the whole building, but there was nothing else. Not even in the basement. The only footpaths and signs of struggle had been between the house and the hay store. After that, nothing else. There was nothing that could give them an answer. Not even the personal belongings of any of the dead men or the zombies. It was as if they were deposited there out of nowhere. After they got rid of the stinking bodies, they had to open up all the windows in order to let fresh air in.They placed the solar lamps in strategic places so that the light from them would not attract any unwanted visitors.Since the mansion was on a rise, it would be easy for any straggling zombies to see any glaring light from those angles.Adam could see that everyone was tired, so he told them all that they would start putting things in place the next day.As for that nig
They were both breathing heavily when they separated.Adam wanted to say something, but she looked away from him.She lay her head against the door and closed her eyes again. It was the look in her eyes before she turned away that stopped him.A clear look of back off.Though Adam had a lot to say, he simply decided to respect her wishes. What would he have said anyway? He thought to himself as the assurances and promises that had almost tumbled off his tongue infuriated him.He wasn’t even sure that he could keep her and the others safe yet, and he wanted to make promises to her?He scoffed at himself in anger.“What is that about?” she asked suddenly.“Nothing that concerns you,” Adam said a bit more harshly than he had intended. Her eyes flew open, but she still didn’t look at him as she said, “Didn’t seem like none of my business when you had your tongue down my throat seconds ago.”Adam couldn’t believe her.“Oh, I am sorry. I must have missed how much you resisted,” he said sarc
Everyone awoke to their duties the next day.Adam had been unable to sleep, so even after others had taken over the shift, and Layla had gone to sleep, he was up and planning.By the next morning, he was waiting for everyone to gather up.Everyone had to move in groups of twos or threes as they went about the task of checking out the generator, cleaning up the mansion and converting the stables to rooms that could contain people. Some were to go to the town with Adam to check out how bad the situation was at the moment. He wanted to know the extent of what they would have to deal with.He explained his vision to them that morning. And the most important aspect of that was that they had to have a well-manned border at the entrances of Maradoit. That way they could turn people who might want to enter away. The less people, the less zombies they would have to deal with. Adam would have liked that they should erect a wall around the town but at the moment, they would have to make do with
It was getting dark when they got accosted by another set of zombies. After dealing with them, Adam let go of the idea of going to the river that day. They had found more than they bargained for, after all. With the phones, food, and the bag of money with them, they all left for the mansion. They explained everything that happened to those at the mansion. Then Adam brought out the bag of money. Everyone gaped in shock as they saw the bundles of $100,000. They were on $1,000 bills each. And the bundles were 23 in number. Altogether, it was $2,300,000. “I still can’t believe that anybody would be selfish enough to kill others because of money in this kind of situation,” Marriane said sadly. “What would he have used it for? To buy his way from the zombies?” Adam was less concerned about the thoughts of a dead man. He was more concerned about how the same situation would not happen among them. What the man did was an example of the length that men would go to when it came to
"He wants to speak to you."Everybody turned around to see Matteo extend his phone towards Layla. They had been in training before Matteo's phone rang, and he went out of the ballroom they had been using to train."Who wants to speak with me?" Layla asked breathlessly. She had been sparring with John, and the Irish man was not cutting her any slack at all.Matteo looked bashful as he said, "The general.""Why would I want to speak to that weirdo? He needs someone to save his ass again," she asked with a snort."I think the main question is, why the fuck are you still talking to him?" Adam said as he came closer. His brown tank top was streaked with sweat that glistened on the muscles he was beginning to develop from all the extra training and the painstakingly slow farming procedures they had been trying out over the week.Matteo said, "He called.""And he suddenly wants to speak with me?" Layla asked in surprise. "Well, tell him I am not a fan."There was an inaudible sound from the p
"Your dad killed my dad?" Lisa asked Layla as her eyes narrowed dangerously in a way that rivalled Adam's.It was easy to see the resemblance between the two as they stood at the ready, like they were just seconds away from tearing Layla apart."Don't be ridiculous. The two of you should just calm down, okay? My dad did not kill anyone. At least none that I know of," she said with a shrug."But Adam said...""Adam jumped to a conclusion," Layla answered in exasperation as she rolled her eyes at Adam, but Adam's expression didn't change."You are a Walton," he said simply as if that explained everything."Yes, I am a Walton," Layla answered with a sigh. "But not the Walton.""That makes no sense," Adam said."I mean, I am not "the" Walton that you are thinking of. I am not related to that bitch in any way.""You knew each other. You won't explain why, but you two had a relationship.""Not with me. She had a relationship with my stepsister. They were friends, and let's just say we don't
