Chp 87 - Keeping Hope Alive

“They would be fine,” Sophia tried to reassure Marriane.

Marriane looked at her vaguely and nodded.

She muttered her thanks and told Sophia to get some rest too.

Sophia could tell that the woman was just humouring her; she had stopped believing her words hours after a whole day had passed and there was no sign of her son.

Lisa nodded slightly at her in greeting as they passed each other while Sophia was on her way out of the tent.

Sophia continued on her way but then she turned back as Lisa whistled at her.

Lisa took her aside and said nothing.

The young lady wrung her hands.

Turned away.

Then turned back to Sophia.

“They are going to be fine,” Sophia said automatically.

She had a good idea of what Lisa might be agitated about, after all.

“How can you even say that? How can you be so... sure? So…calm? After what happened to Nina?”

“I am not sure of anything,” Sophia admitted. “I just know that we have to keep hope alive. Have a little faith.”
