CHAPTER 7

The emergence of another fellow from the vehicle was not in Maxwell’s expectations. Thinking back to the fact that the fellow

was also a teenager but was even more arrogant than the others, answering his questions directly, he almost puked in anger.

Turning to face the other ones however, he noticed that they were looking at the newly arrived fellow in surprise and confusion.

“Marvellous are you okay?”.

“How come you are fine?”.

“Weren’t you supposed to have turned?”.

“The bite has actually healed? . . .”.

“That’s impossible! . . . How come?”.

Seemly forgetting him and his raiders, the teenagers suddenly lost themselves in an entirely different discussion. Trading

confused and awkward glances with his deputy, he cleared his throat and shouted to the teenagers.

“Hey!, we’re not done yet”.

Totally ignoring him, they continued chatting as if they weren’t currently blocked by a group of people or as if they hadn’t been talking to someone. Despite their seemly carelessness, Maxwell noticed that they were on high alert and were capable of defending and even counter - attacking at the slightest instant.              ‘What skill!’, he thought.

**

Completely forgetting the trouble makers, the teenagers decided to head back to the RV to continue their chats and catching on exercises. Having a friend condemned to damnation return alright and even seemly better was just too amazing, they certainly wanted to have a nice time with him at least to show all the care they had wished to shower on him in his absence. Remembering the group of people blocking the way, Roosevelt turned.

“Clear the road please, we have to pass through”, she calmly warned. She had also been so surprised by the turn of events that she had also forgotten about their friends blocking the road, she was not willing however to miss out on the catching on and chatting exercise that was about to ensue.

‘Is this how confident they are in their skills?, or is it plain carelessness?’ she thought as she hurried after them to catch

up. “I guess I still have a lot to find out and learn about them” she mumbled.

*******

As Anthonia watched the teenagers entering their vehicle and ignoring them like shit, she gritted her teeth in anger, causing a screeching sound to fill the air. With an humph, she turned to Maxwell to see him equally furious.

“What should we do now?”, she asked suppressing her anger, “Should we let them go?”.

Maxwell had been thinking of the best course of action to take since the total disrespect of the teens, but he was still undecided. He wanted to attack so badly, but every time he was about to give the command, his sixth sense would warn him of a terrific danger. Those teens were able to stay calm and even act arrogantly and disrespectfully in front of his raiders - all

muscular and trained - despite being outnumbered. Even ignoring them and chatting as if nothing, he was totally confused. He had no doubt that he would face disastrous casualties if he faced them in battle, so he could only sigh and shake his head.

“No . . . let’s go” he replied letting out a deep sigh.

“But . . .”.

“No buts!, let’s go!” he ordered.

“Yes sir!”.

Jumping onto the back of his truck, Maxwell stood watching the RV in amusement, ‘It’s not so often you meet such unusual People’ he thought.

*******

Standing in the RV, Marvellous looked at his friends with a slightly visible smile. Seeing their expressions that screamed disbelieve as well as happiness, he almost burst into laughter but thanks to his evolution since the apocalypse, he was able to compose himself quickly. As if remembering something, he turned his attention to the newest member who was sitting amongst them casually, as if she had always been part of them. Seeing her so comfortable, he furrowed his eyebrows slightly while glancing at some of his friends.

“We decided to take her in”, Rose said understanding his action.

“Yes”, the group showed their agreement.

“ . . . ” Roosevelt.

While they were catching up, not far away a zombie swift suddenly rose to its feet as it smelt meat. With astonishing speed, it began to run in the direction of the meat.

Chatting with his friends, Marvellous suddenly heard the sound of a zombie groan and actually smelt a strange scent in

the air. Picking up his axe, he went out and climbed to the top of the RV as was his usual habit while thinking of his sensitivity

to smell and sound. ‘That odd scent must be the scent of the zombie’, he thought.

Turning to the direction in which the scent and sound were coming, he saw a zombie making its way to them.

‘A swift’, he thought as he tried estimating the actual distance of the zombie. Since he was not yet able to fully utilise his new skills, he could only try to understand a little at the moment.

“How far is swift making its way towards us?”, he asked his friends who had joined him on the RV.

“About 120 meters, why?”, Joy asked.

“Nothing much”, he replied as he thought, ‘So that’s how it is?, well I guess I need to master how to use my enhanced sight’.

Getting his weapons really, Marvellous was just getting into his fighting stance when his sight suddenly blurred. Opening his eyes, the world seemed to have changed from his point of view and his instincts were sharper than ever. Setting his sight on the approaching zombie, he took a step forward and with amazing speed suddenly bolted towards the zombie appearing within seconds before the zombie and pounced on it. His axe cleaved the skull of the zombie directly into two causing all of the contents to spill. With the threat out of the way, his instinct seemed to finally calm, returning him back to his ordinary state, the irises of his pupils having a faint whitish colour to it. Having regained himself completely, he looked around at the surroundings, everything seemed to be okay and even his sight seemed to be a little controllable.

“What the heck was that?”, Rose asked mouth twitching.

“What?”

“What happened to you?”, Roosevelt also asked.

“I don’t understand what you guys mean”, Marvellous replied.

“You just turned into a freaking zombie!”, Larry said.

“ . . . ”, Marvellous.

“Why do I feel like you don’t even understand what we are talking about?”, Timothy asked.

“Well I really don’t understand”, Marvellous replied.

Roosevelt walked into the school premises gloomy as always, today was a beginning of a new session and though she would have loved to stay at home and watch tv, her mom would not hear of that. Being a low profile high school student, it was practically hard to maintain a smiling face because of constant bullying activities. Roosevelt was not poor, in fact she was from a rich home – ‘a stinkingly rich home’ but she just hated the idea of associating with the rich spoilt kids and even the poor ones too. The bell rang to signal the beginning of class, the teacher came in and the class started off boring as usual. ‘Well it is time to zone out again’ she thought as she relaxed in her seat and let the fresh air breeze her into her world of fantasy. Not only was Roosevelt a social weirdo, she was also classified as a shy provocative idiot so everybody practically underestimated her, even her teachers. “Miss Roosevelt can you solve the problem on the board?” The teacher asked. It had been a week since his sanctuary - the only place he had called home since the apocalypse era - had fallen into chaos, he and the remaining survivors were heading north for the closest town. As he thought of things that had happened in the past few days, he could only shake his head and let out a deep sigh. Returning to his tent, he picked a remote and pressed the button on it to wake the other survivors while he settled down for breakfast. Looking at the quantity of food he was preparing for the remaining members of his sanctuary, he almost broke into tears because it reminded him of the tragic incident on that day. CHAPTER 4 Encountering a few zombies a day was normal in the apocalypse, encountering a hundred a month was also normal and tolerable. But encountering over ah hundred a day and all in one place was terrifyingly rare - after all even the population of zombies had dropped in the years of the apocalypse. However at this moment, over a hundred zombies, swifts included were chasing a young girl. With a backpack strapped to her back, she could only run as fast as she could when she saw the numbers of the zombies. Luckily, she had a variety of supplies in her truck when her fuel ran out so she was able to take supplies to her liking that could fit in her backpack, so she had no worries for supplies and she still had weapons albeit a little lesser than she always carried. Naturally, the young girl or lady was Roosevelt and at the moment she could only blame her luck for her situation. The only reasons why she had survived for so long after abandoning her truck was because of the pistol and
