Chapter 11

"I will not let you subject Sarah to such an act of mockery before the eyes of the public and much less that lecherous fool." James sneered angrily.

"Did you not see the news as you claimed to have? That man almost raped and defiled your daughter? Do you not care anything about that??"

He was on edge at this point, trying hard to understand what sort of irrational people he was currently speaking with.

"You have suddenly become the man of the hour, haven't you? You seem to have it all figured out. What happened to Sarah last night would not have been incandescent to the public, if you in your ardent desire to be useful had not jumped in at the time you did." Sarah's mother, Mrs Brown shot at him.

Her eyes lit with anger and hate as she ran her eyes over his frame.

"Ha," she scoffed at him. "I honestly wondered what my husband was thinking when he asked Sarah to settle for a low-rent husband when he could have gotten a classed one" She shook her head at him.

James' jaw hardened, his fist folded tightly over the can of Soda he held in his hand. He watched her quietly as she continued to speak.

Over time, he had learned to count from one to a hundred each time he was faced with extreme rage or a need to burst out before it was even necessary.

The counting helped him relax. He took a deep breath, and decided to try again, just to understand what was going on.

"What is the need for all these? Why does Sarah have to apologize to Peter Causey? The least you can do is make your string reasons clear" James said to her.

"What we choose to do with our own is none of your business, " Theodore said, but Mrs Brown raised a hand to stop him.

"Since you are so interested in knowing, because it seems we won't get anything done this way." She said to Theodore.

James raised his head at her, indicating that she had his full attention.

"The Brown family is facing extreme difficulties financially. In essence, we are broke,..."

"Mother..." Theodore tried to stop her, but she raised her hand again to silence him.

"If he can only understand that we can no longer afford his low rent services, then perhaps, he would be kind enough to sign the divorce documents, which will free your sister from this cursed marriage and set himself free from this slavery," she added with a smirk.

James' face contorted into a frown, his anger begining to border over his control again.

Mrs Brown did not fail to take notice of his facial expression, and it exhausted her greatly that he was being defiant and stubborn.

"This is not that hard, James! If you leave our daughter alone, then perhaps she can finally be of help to this family!" she said emphatically.

"By sending her off to the hands of rapists and sex traffickers like Peter Causey? How is that supposed to help?!" He yelled at her, as his temper rose uncontrollably.

"What is wrong with you people?! You have associates! People who can be of help to you in times like this, why dont you go to them?!" He asked becoming furious with her.

"Oh my goodness! Are you daft or just plain stupid, this boy?! You already sabotaged our form of help! Peter Causey WAS that associate, whom you decked and sent to the hospital. Fifty million dollars! And you threw that all away for a shot at being Mr. Superman!" Mrs Brown retorted fiercely.

"If you want to help Sarah and this family, then you would sign these damn papers and let her go! Set her free!" She yelled.

"So what? You can send her out to the wolves again? No! I won't do that!" James replied vehemently.

"I told you this fool would be a huge problem, we should have just gotten rid of him when we had the chance!" Theodore bellowed.

Thomas threw him a look, and Mrs Brown raised her hands again to silence him.

"You think you have a say in this family? You are nothing James Johnson but a flea under our skin. We do not need your service anymore, sign the papers and leave while I am still on my best self" she said to him with an unwavering gaze that was meant to be threatening.

Thomas watched her for a second, thinking of the perfect response amidst his fury, his eyes darted angrily from Mrs Brown to Theodore and back to her.

"You are a woman, Mrs. Brown, how do you look at yourself in the morning everytime you think of the evil you are willing to put your daughter through just to save your Family's reputation?" He asked through gritted teeth.

"How dare you speak to my mother like that?!" Theodore sparked with a start, moving forward towards him.

"What? I'm just telling the truth" James said, unmoved by his display of anger.

"The truth? The truth?! I'll show you the truth!" Theodore said. He placed both hands on James' chest, and applying a lot of force, he pushed at James' chest, shoving him backward.

Although he had not expected the action, James' feet had already been fastened to the ground, as was one of his strengths. Thus, his stamina withstood the force and broke his movements backward.

This infuriated Theodore, and he ventured in for another punch but Mrs Brown stopped him.

"Enough Theodore!" Mrs Brown bellowed.

"No! I will teach this nobody a lesson and place him in his rightful position!" Theodore yelled out.

James clenched and unclenched his jaw, he chewed at the cord in his gum to withhold himself from retaliating as he should have.

"I would advise that you do not repeat that act, for the sake of your ability to still walk out of here," he said tightening his grip around the can in his hand.

"Bastard, that is what you are! Why should I expect a motherless animal like you to know how to respect women?!"Theodore said.

"What?!" James pressed his fingers into the can, as his bloodshot veins filled his eyes. The force of his fingers digging into the soda can increased, and that made it burst and pop with a loud noise, spilling its contents everywhere.
