Chapter 145

Sarah held his hand.

"This child is ours, James. And if you doubt that, then I will be more than willing to run a paternity test."

It felt as though she had suddenly developed a way to break into his thoughts. He looked up at her in surprise, and the look in her eyes gave him all the intellect he needed.

She was afraid. Afraid he was rejecting her.

"I don't doubt it, Sarah. I just imagined... "

Sarah's eyes showed that she understood, and that was something they had never shared before. An understanding.

"Do you still need to go home?" She asked him.

His eyes laughed at how silly it sounded now that she said it to him.

"I think I'll head over to the base. Some officers are outside standing guard. The General's orders. He wants me to help him run some supervision errands before the inauguration ceremony on Monday."

"But it's Friday. Do you really have to do that? Can't someone else handle it?" Sarah pouted.

"It is not so much fun having someone else be trusted by the General." He winke
