Chapter 156

Mr. Brown walked into the United Bank building again, but this time he was stopped at the door by the Secretary.

"I'm sorry Sir, you can't go in today." She said to him rudely.

"Why not?" Mr. Brown asked back. He held his briefcase close to his side as he spoke.

"The General Manager of the bank received a call this morning and before he stepped out, he instructed us that you are not to be let into the bank to speak with anyone except he is around. I'm sorry, Mr. Brown, but you will have to leave."

Mr. Brown looked around him cautiosly, unsure whether this was some sort of coded plot by Mr. Curtly to keep the black mailers at bay.

"That's fine. I'll come back tomorrow." He said and walked out of the building. As soon as he stepped out the door, a black venza stopped in front of him and the windows rolled down.

Williams Smith stared up at him and unlocked the car door for him to come in. Mr. Brown looked down at him warily, tempted to run from him. But his feet remained stuck.
