Chapter 166: Trilogy

“If you ask me how my business is going, then you might ruin my day,” Gibson said to Cynthia , as they left the coffeehouse that he frequented for his regular lunch hour. “Because I am not going to tell you that. So don’t bother asking because it would just be a waste of your time.”

She smiled at him as they walked across the street to her office. He was handsome in his late twenties, with short dark hair and a stubbly beard. There were small scars on his face. She’d never asked what had happened. The fact that he wasn’t married or with anyone who lived close by made up for some of that mystery she didn’t want to pry into.

His eyes were light hazel, a pale blue color in spite of his dark complexion. They crinkled when he smiled at her, though, so it was hard to remember that there had been serious times in their lives.
