Alastair watched as Cara took a deep breath and relaxed herself. Her hands were placed at her side and clenched into a fist. Alastair noticed the uneasiness in her form, but he could not say anything to her. It was a training session, and the purpose of it was for her to gain independence from his instructions.
He watched as a mage stepped forward and gave him a bow. He returned the bow and then, the mage walked towards Cara. The mage, a young man, gave Cara a bow as well which she also returned.Alastair exhaled as he looked at them"Remember why you are here today. You are both here to horn those particular skills which have been giving you a hard time. Cara, you will spar with Reynold today. This sparring session will be violent. The only rule is not to kill each other.Begin!"Alastair said and stomped the staff he was holding on the ground. It created a wave of energy that thrummed around the training ground and settled on the pillars which surrounded the space. It was an open ground without a roof over it, and the warm morning sun made it a perfect time for training.Cara focused her eyes on her opponent, and Alastair watched as Reynold clasped his hands together and suddenly created three more clones of himself. The clones surrounded Cara, and she slowly watched them from the corner of her eyes.Suddenly, the clones and Reynold attacked her. Cara quickly dodged the first strike and punched the next clone in the face. She quickly twisted, using Reynold's own move against him, and kicked him in the guts.Another punch and she sent a clone to the ground. Alastair watched closely as Reynold created three more clones of himself. He was getting uneasy. It was time for Cara to use the magic he had been teaching her.Cara slowly became overwhelmed as she was surrounded by five clones. Reynold was pleased. He was certain he had won the sparring session. The clones attacked Cara who managed to fend them off with her fighting skills but it was not enough.A punch to her face and she was on the ground, bleeding from the side of her mouth. Cara felt the Phoenix surge within her and the fire it carried started to rise. But she silenced it. That was not why she was there. She had to learn new spells. As she tried to stand, another clone kicked her again, and more joined in. Alastair watched as the clones continued to beat her up. She shielded herself and grabbed one of the clones which she quickly snapped its neck. The clone turned to Sparks and Reynold groaned.Cara smiled. She stood up and eliminated two more and Reynold was soon groaning as he managed to stand. His eyes were red with anger. He suddenly Joined the clones and pounced on Cara, pulling her down with their weight. Cara closed her eyes and focused her powers. She tried to call to it but the magic of water was not responding. The weight began to hurt her. She tried again but still nothing. Then, she closed her eyes and screamed, emitting a wave of energy from her body that knocked Reynold and all of his clones to the ground, eliminating the clones in the process."Enough!"Alastair commanded as he walked towards them. Reynold managed to stand and gave Alastair a finishing bow. Alastair looked at Cara who had a frustrated look on her face. She couldn't even face him."You may leave, Reynold," Alastair commanded and the young mage walked away from the training ground."I can't do it. It's just impossible. The magic of water can never come to me. I can't understand how it works." Cara said frustrated."You just need to focus...""Do you think I do not do that? I did it back there and I got nothing. Maybe I'm not cut out for this." Cara said and stood up."Nonsense. You are the most powerful mage the world has ever seen. Of course, you are cut out for this. Look, the secret behind it is to realize that there is water everywhere. It's all around you. You just need..." Alastair waved his hands in the air and formed a ribbon of water which circled his hand, "...to focus and channel it. You can make it grow..." The ribbon became larger, "...or you can simply let it go." The water returned to the air."It all depends on what you want to do." Alastair Concluded but Cara was not convinced."I need some time to think about it.", She said."What you need is more practice. You will stay here till evening until you are able to get the basics." Alastair said and Cara's eyes widened."But Alastair...""Master Alastair..." Alastair corrected."Master Alastair. Do I really have to?" Cara asked and Alastair nodded. She gave a frustrated sigh when she realized she could not win.Just then, a figure appeared in the sky. Alastair smiled as Jaghryx, his dragon roared and flew towards him. The sight of the majestic beast always fills him with such Joy, reminding him of the wonderful times that had passed, and the Hope of the future.Jaghryx landed and greeted Alastair with a snuggle. He looked at Cara and growled softly."It's good to see you too," Cara said and to jaghryx and rolled her eyes. She watched as Alastair mounted the beast."I have to be in the palace now. Keep practicing. I have set up wards to make sure you do not leave the training ground." Alastair said and smiled when he heard Cara groan. Then, jaghryx flapped his large wings and flew into the sky. Alastair's eyes roamed around the Elderien's keep and he was pleased by what he was seeing. It has been three years since they returned from the isle of mists. The exorcism of Asmodeus had brought about a better day for Cara and the world at Large. Cara's destiny was safer. Her powers were also more stable, and she was learning and getting better with the passing day.Alastair touched the top of his right shoulder and a menu suddenly popped up.Name:Head Mage AlastairStatus: Dragon Lord Affiliations: Elderien's keepPower level: 2000Pending mission: NilHe smiled. It has been three years of peace. He began to rebuild the Elderien's keep as soon as he returned. Even his darling, Miranda had almost completed all renovations and monuments destroyed by the former war with the Mintovals. It was an era of peace. So, why did he still feel uncertainty? As Alastair rode his dragon, he could not help but feel like this peace was an illusion. He felt like it was not going to last.Just as he was still lost in thought, he felt a chill on his skin. The chill slowly spread all around his entire body and as he took a deep breath, Alastair heard his dragon growl softly. He could not put his finger on it, but he knew something terrible was coming. But what was it exactly?Jaghryx roared in the sky as the dragon approached the palace. The morning sun was filling him with extra energy and Alastair couldn't have been more proud. As the beast slowly settled on the large, concrete space outside of the main palace building, the soldiers around all watched in awe and horror.Alastair stepped down from the Dragon and have Jaghryx a gentle rub on the face. The dragon growled softly and settled itself as Alastair walked away. The guards around stood at attention as Alastair approached and they quickly placed their right hand across their chest as he walked past them. That was their formal way of greeting the head mage.Alastair could not believe how easily time had passed. Once upon a time, Master Orion was in this position that he was occupying at that time. He had always wanted to become Head Mage and he was getting there, not until that time when he tampered with dark magic. Then he thought Blaize would get it because he was the most suitable candidate. But
Cloudy sky.Snow, lots of them. Mountains covered with snow, and rivers frozen on their surfaces. That was the most basic description of the northern continent, the home of the species which were ostracised from the rest of the world. As the soft night wind blew past the frozen trees, making them shed the snow that resided on them, Corvius emerged from the blue river in which he had been submerged. The river was not frozen when he came out but as soon as his entire body was lifted off the body of water, the river froze up. Corvius slowly flew towards the river bank where six young women were kneeling on the ground, heads bowed as he approached. One of them held a large black cloak and quickly proceeded to put it around him as soon as his feet touched the ground.Corvius let out a growl as the coat wrapped around his body. His pale skin had dried up almost immediately, and he gave off constant cold steams. His short black hair revealed two horns on the side of his head and his blue e
The residents of the capital chatted in awe as a thick mist suddenly appeared out of nowhere and began to spread. They watched as the clouds slowly turned dark, the ray of sunshine that had filled the morning with warmth disappearing in an instant. And then, came the snowfalls. Some children even began to get excited as they watched the snowflakes fall from the sky, but their parents knew it was not supposed to be. As more snowflakes fell, people began to shuffle into their homes. The palace was already placed in a commotion as guards jumped from one side to the other, getting themselves arms as they quickly formed a defensive formation around the entire palace. The mist continued to spread and so did the snowfall. The soothing winter cold that soon followed saturated the air, but then, it began to get a bit colder. Weapons began to freeze, the ground was slowly freezing as well. Guards moved back as the frozen spots started to spread, and as they did, Alastair dashed out of the pala
Kevin sat at the end of the pub with a large cup of alcohol placed on the table before him. There were about six extra cups, all empty, and the last one he was drinking from was halfway done. He took a heavy gulp from the cup and muttered something inaudible, making the people inside the pub gaze at him for a moment. But he did not care.Kevin continued to drink from the cup and when he was done, he tried to stand, but he was too wasted to do so. He tried again, but then, he fell right back into the seat."Hey... Little girl, I need two extra..." He called out to the girl serving him. She was about sixteen, and the look of worry on her face made Kevin uncomfortable."What?" He asked her when she stared for too long."Perhaps you should take it easy, sir? You have had seven cups already and the day just begun. Why don't you take a little break?" She suggested.Kevin scoffed when she spoke. How dare she?"Do you know who I am?" Kevin asked her but she did not answer at first."Speak, ch
Alastair stirred intently at the cube as he tried to figure out what it was exactly. He had been there in that same position for over Seven hours, and he was not getting anything. Alastair was gradually getting frustrated by the lack of knowledge, and for a day that seemed to begin so well, he was not having it easy."For god's sake!"He cursed as he felt a sharp headache. He had even forgotten to eat due to the stress. He knew he needed to figure out the answers to the questions. If he had any hope of thwarting Corvius and his plans, it had to begin from the cube. But, how could the cube serve as a gateway, and how was Corvius absorbing them? It was his first time hearing of such a skill. He felt so weak at that moment.Alastair took a deep breath. Perhaps he was overthinking again. He slowly stretched out his hand towards the cube and as the white light from his hand shone on the cube, he tried to feel for any other forms of energy which he could capitalize on. But nothing came."Co
The rapid freezing of the floor and the walls, even the trees and pieces of furniture told Elderien that something terrible had come back barely hours after it left. People watched as the ice spread, and darkness covered the sky. They still did not think it was so dangerous until a man standing close to a piece of creeping ice crunched to touch it. Immediately he did, the man froze on the spot and the people around gasped."Run!"A woman screamed as another man froze in the spot and that was when they saw the large icy dragon flying and roaring in the sky.The dragon roared again and flew down, and as it did, it opened its mouth and shot a stream of ice at the residents who tried to escape from the beast. They froze on the spot and immediately, the beast roared again, shooting another stream at more people.Cries and screams filled the air as the residents of the capital tried to escape the dragon, but it was hopeless. They hid as best as they could but the dragon didn't relent. As a
Silence. That was the only thing Elderien could hear at that point. There was total silence in all of the capital's minds, and the faintest creaking of the doors and the shuffling of weapons convinced everyone that they were in for something terrible. The energy from the sun's sphere had spread across the capital, forming a yellow dome of energy that gave off little Sparks. The dome was deep yellow in colour, and the heat it provided was enough to warm the capital. But that was not the only problem the capital faced. From where they stood, the Elderien people could see that the outside world had been enveloped in a thick, terrible winter. The clouds had turned dark as well, and lightning could be seen flashing in the sky. The wind outside was terrible, causing a snowstorm to blow. How could the world be under the influence of such a powerful spell? How could they survive? For Alastair, the sight of his dead dragon's outline from the Sparks was one of the things that filled him with
There was darkness spreading over the capital. The snowstorm was blowing harder than it had been before and the dome flickered while the storm blew. Alastair and Miranda dashed outside to behold what was happening. There were several other guards standing in awe by that time. They looked as the darkness kept spreading and each of them grabbed their Weapons tighter.Kevin showed up behind Drax and stood far away from the others. He watched the whole thing and said nothing in the process. He was not even interested in what was happening, and so, he turned around and walked out of the scene."What is happening?" Miranda asked as she kept looking. The energy from the dome flickered like it was rebounding something."He is trying to break the dome. He wants to freeze it." Alastair responded to Miranda. She gasped softly as he said the words and confirmed her fears. Miranda quickly took Alastair's hand and squeezed it."But he cannot do it, right? The sun sphere is pure sun energy. Freezin
They could see the energy which the ghosts had left behind tripping into the cube. As soon as the energy started flowing into the cube, the cube began to thrum. It thrummed so much that the energy it was gaining made it seem like it was going to explode at any moment.Alastair walked closer to the cube and stretched her hand forth. It was finally time for him to cast the spell and he knew that he could not delay any further. He started whispering the words and when he did, the cube thrummed even more. It slowly elevated and gave off Sparks of energy as it hung in the air.Miranda tried to shield her eyes as the sparks became more pronounced. Alastair did not stop chanting. The more he chanted, the more the sparks grew, and the more that happened, the more the energy in the room got sucked.Suddenly, a blast of energy escaped the cube and Blasted Alastair away from the cube, and knocked him on the ground. The same energy had swept Miranda off her feet and crashed her as well. Alastair
"Queen Sophia, remember who we are. We are here to help..." Miranda began as soon as the ghost started approaching them. The ghost did not have a cheer on her face, and all that Miranda could see was the anger and hated that she had carried to her grave. As Sophia began to come too close, Alastair quickly cast a spell and bridged himself between Miranda and the ghost, who at that time was already getting worked up. The ghost opened it's mouth to say something, but like painful transition of death, she could no longer speak. Her mouth suddenly stretched far beyond it's normal limits and it became a hollow mass of darkness.Alastair watched carefully as all the ghost could do was wail. She wailed so much and when she did, the energy in the room changed. It suddenly became dark and Alastair could sense it. So, that was what happened? As the ghost continued wailing, something started happening.Alastair could feel something coming in masses. He exchanged glances with Miranda who seemed to
Alastair and Miranda watched as the King paced up and about in the throne room, baffled, his face creased with worries, he will stop every minute and ponder for a second then goes about pacing again.Miranda wonders what goes on in his mind, watching his every moves with intent.“Pray tell, the heavens that one day, I will not be overthrown by this woman I call my wife.” Marius said, his face looking toward the ceiling in reverence to him looking at the sky as he prays.Marius looked threatened not only at the fact that the people regards his wife more than him and that what if it happens that they start seeing his wife as both king and queen.“No!” Maris thundered, “it can’t happen and it won’t!” He shook his head, “I am the king and I shall act the role of the king, and no one regards the queen than I.” Miranda shuddered and Alastair quickly holds her, it was obvious that the king was overly jealous of his queen Sophia, and his mind has been clouded with hatred for her and at this
“To Queen Sophia!” The audience boomed with roars of laughter emanating from everyone present in the hall.“To You, Our Queen.” One of the noble whisper to the Sophia who gave a hearty smile and raised her glass to everyone. She looked over to the King who wore a face of disdain and disgust but quickly comported his face and smiled at her.“You’re a wonder, my darling. Thank you for winning for us.” Sophia stared at him, unsure of what to say, her mouth quirked and a second later, a smile creeped up her face. “I am filled with happiness to fight for our country and win.”She turned her attention to the crowd, the nobles were the ones who had threw the party for us saying that she was a man in woman form, she had the strength and courage to go war and bring the victory home.“Great Elderiens, admiration to the gods who gave Queen Sophia the strength to go to war and bring victory to us.” One of the nobles said. From the crowd, a woman whispered to another woman beside her. “You see
The third general slowly approached the queen with a smile on his face but the Queen was not smiling. He was quite disappointed when he could not make her reciprocate the emotion that he was showing off."My queen, you should not be here, in this lowly place. You must allow me to escort you into a tent while you make yourself comfortable." The third general said to her and she scoffed. She could not believe her ears."Are you enchanted? Are you under some form of spell?" The queen asked the general who was confused by the nature of her question."I'm afraid I do not understand what you mean...""Are you aware that the capital is burning at this very moment?.are you aware that your king is out there fighting for his people? And what are you doing? You are here eating and resting with your army while the kingdom burns. You have disobeyed a direct order from your king to assist in the battle and you do not feel any remorse. Explain yourself before I have your head."Sophia spat with an a
Queen Sophia dashed into the room closest to her and slammed the door shut. Alastair and Miranda were able to phase through the door and follow her inside. The queen quickly sat down on a chair and took a deep breath, shuddering in the process as she heard another bang on the wall. Queen Sophia began to look at the maps and the books that were scattered across the table. She glanced from one to the other, trying her possible best to make sure that she was not missing anything. But when she heard another bang, she jumped up and took a deep breath to calm herself down. The war was getting more perilous. Sophia knew that Elderien may not survive for long for the reinforcements they were waiting for had not arrived. The enemy they faced had better armoury, better soldiers and a greater chance of. Winning the battle. Queen Sophia knew that it would all soon be over, and when the enemy won, she may have to be killed. And so would her children. No, she could not fanthom the thought of her c
As soon as Alastair and Miranda stepped into the Hall, the doors shut behind them. They could see the cube at the centre of the room, thrumming with energy as they looked around. The ghost stood on a side of the hall, watching them closely and carefully as they observed her as well.Miranda was especially fascinated. She had never thought that she would find the ghost of a queen in the catacombs. The royals were always burried according to the rites of the kingdom but there was something fishy about the Queen's history after all.According to the books, the queen had helped her husband defeat a great for by serving as his Mastermind. However, she wanted to take the throne for herself for she believed that she was more suited to rule than he was. That led to her husband banishing her from the palace and Elderien forever. It was never stated what Became of her after her banishment, but the king remarried and had children with the new wife which continued his lineage. What if there was a
Alastair slowly looked at the direction to which Miranda was pointing to. He was not sure what he would see there but he knew that whatever it was, it was enough to send shivers down her spine. Alastair slowly turned his neck and gazed at the darkness that stood before him. In the midst of the pitch black aura which he could see, he started to make out something like the outline of a person. But it was a shadow. Alastair looked closer. He was certain that it was a ghost, or at least he suspected it was. But he had Never seen a ghost like that one before, and the uncertainty made him uncomfortable."What is that?" Miranda asked him, shaking with fear. What terrified her the most was the fact that the shadow stood still, not moving, not speaking, but menacing enough to show off a Stern warning with it's presence. "I think it is a ghost." Alastair said to her and the realization that the creature had a name made Miranda to become at ease, at least she now knew what she was facing. Alas
Alastair could tell that his efforts to find a suitable reason for the problem he was encountering were not forthcoming. He could not even focus on anything all through the day. As the mages attended to Drax, he walked out of the room to get some fresh air.Alastair saw the dome and remembered what had led him there in the first place. The dome kept giving off Sparks on energy, but Alastair could notice that the Sparks had started reducing. He was not surprised. It was bound to happen sooner than later. But the only issue he had was the fact that he did not know when the dome would finally call it a quit. There has to be a plan for when that happened. That Was what he was trying to do but he was not even successful in that.Alastair was so deep in thought that he did not even notice when Miranda walked up to him. She sighed as she gazed at the sphere as well, and then turning to gaze at Alastair when he did not acknowledge her presence."What are you thinking about?" She asked him. Al
