Jason was more excited about the surprise he was about to give his new bride than he had expected. Though the little scene that just occurred at his wedding was simmering at the back of his mind, he was hellbent on not allowing anything to ruin his time with his bride. His recently acquired Boeing 767 took them straight to the harbour where he had the surprise docked. He couldn’t get over her excitement when he had the staff uncover what he had hoped that she would love. The most fitting wedding gift he could think of. “Oh, my God! Oh my…” She stared in stupefied excitement at the magnificent beast in front of her. A white, royally-fitted, Superyacht. He saw tears form in her eyes as she fixed her eyes on the rear of the yacht. He knew what she must be thinking. Jason moved closer to her and hugged her sideways to himself as they both looked at the gold-lettered, embossed writing on the hull - Gail Sail. He had had the yacht built with that customised lettering because of how much
He came in through the door like any visitor with his head turned away from the highly efficient video cam of Paragon Heights. He collected the visitor tag and pinned it on his grey suit. He walked briskly towards the elevator and pressed the button. He paused when he saw that a young intern with a backpack was in there. His nostril flared in irritation but he still entered, all while making sure his back was to the camera. The humming sound of the intern annoyed him as he pressed a random number on the elevator. He endured the silly smell and sound of youth till the youngster got to the floor she was going to. “Bitch” he muttered under his breath after the young lady left the elevator. He pressed another button on the elevator pad in the course of the elevator change. Smiling to himself, he brought out a very small remote-like device and pressed a button on it towards the camera, jamming it. Then he opened his suitcase and brought out a coveralls. He changed quickly and put his s
“A fire?!” Jason couldn’t believe his ears as he listened to Simon over the phone. The night he had was the best he could remember having in a long time and he had no idea that anything could bring him down from the euphoria he was feeling that morning when he woke up with his arms wrapped around his warm, beautiful wife. They had had breakfast in bed where he fed her little piece of the sumptuous scrambled eggs and tofu. Then he had fed off her body before they tumbled back into bed again. It was hours later before he roused out of bed, leaving Millicent cocooned in the sheets that smelled of their passion. He kissed her bare back and drew up the covers before he left the bedroom to check if he had any messages on his phone. He had thought of his phone during the night and remembered that he left it on the dining table so he decided to check it in the morning. What he did not expect though, was the number of missed calls he had from Simon and Anastasia. Then he saw Simon’s message.
Jason had to compromise. Millicent talked about going back home about two times out of every ten discussions they have in a day. It had started after she watched a clip about a reporter interrogating Khan Maal at an event that he attended. The reporter had asked the question that Jason had in mind as well. WAS KHAN MAAL’S ARRIVAL AND THE ARSON JUST A COINCIDENCE? The man had chosen not to answer the question, which to Jason had been a stupid move or a tactical one. Because the press had jumped on that and different captions started flying. Khan Maal might be a big shot in Japan but Jason was the darling of Montreau press and the whole of California. They had not pulled any punches at all in philosophizing about the reason why Khan Maal had said nothing. Features, articles, talk shows and many others had followed since then. Then Khan Maal had granted an interview where he sort of talked about how Jason might have been threatened by his presence in Montreau and he was thereby sicci
Jason had thought that meeting Khan Maal physically would be as difficult as it had been for him to speak with the man but he had a surprise awaiting him.Khan Maal called him the moment he got to Montreau, he had not even gotten to his home yet."CEO Monroe!" Maal said over the phone as if he was talking to a long-term friend "I am so sorry that I have been unable to call you back. You see, I have been dealing with dodging paparazzi and nosy reporters who seemed to believe that I have something to do with a certain fire, you know. Please accept my apology" he said with a sincere tone that Jason did not believe for one second."Apology accepted, of course," Jason replied with the same syrupy tone. "Although I am curious as to the reason why you are calling back at this particular moment," Jason said."Oh, I thought you wanted to talk to me. Didn't you?" Maal asked.Jason swallowed the retort in his throat and said "Yes, I wanted to. How convenient that you called just when I was getti
“I see that honeymoon agrees with you, Mrs Monroe.” Victoria started after Milicent had rejected the offer of refreshments. They were seated on a patio that opened up to the beautiful, artistically designed greenery that surrounded King’s Inn. “Yes, I would say that,” Millicent said with a hesitant smile. “Hmm,” Victoria said as she sipped the dry martini that the waiter had brought for her. “That is definitely what a woman who had been properly fucked would say,” she said simply with a wink. “What the heck?” Millicent thought, then she bared her teeth in the resemblance of a smile before she pointed at Victoria’s glass “Isn’t there something they say about drinking while on the clock?” “Oh, this little thing? It hardly matters and Mr. Maal doesn’t mind at all in as much as it didn’t affect my work and I can assure you that it does not” she said with a smile as she wagged her finger playfully at Millicent and took a long sip of her drink. “I can only imagine” Millicent muttered,
“I will resume tomorrow, sir,” Victoria said to Jason, with a beaming smile before she entered the car to sit beside Khan Maal. Jason nodded. The car window was rolled down and Khan Maal looked out at Jason “I look forward to executing this project successfully with you, Chairman Monroe. Please, notify Victoria if you need my attention about anything” he said. “I understand” Jason responded. The window rolled up again and the Jaguar I-Pace rolled out and glided away from the company. Anastasia looked at Jason and asked, “Is Miss Victoria’s presence needed here, sir?” Jason was surprised by her question. “Well, Khan chose her to do the transitioning, didn’t he? You agreed that we need a core member of their team here just as we will be sending Richard to their company as well. Why? Do you have any issues with it? You discover some discrepancy in the legalese?” “No, no sir” Anastasia quickly answered as she walked with Jason to his car “It is just that I had no idea that he would b
Millicent had convinced herself that secret affects the foundation of a successful marriage. Since she wouldn’t want to have anything disrupt the kind of life she realised she could have with Jason, she decided to ask him what she had had on her mind for the past week. She had sort of asked if Miss Harrison was an acquaintance and he had said no. To be honest, they had been interrupted just as he was about to say something else but she had not asked him again since then. Though she had convinced herself that it did not bother her, she still couldn’t get over the look that Victoria had on her face when she was talking about Jason’s muscles. It was almost as if she had personal experience with them.Millicent shook her head to dispel the horrible feeling that was creeping on her because of her thoughts. She reminded herself that she had intended to ask him about it that night.“He will explain that their meeting was nothing significant and we will get this behind us,” she said out loud

The latest of the scandals related to the Monroes was the handover event that turned out to be more than everybody expected. But instead of the event turning out to be the most humiliating for Jason as his enemies expected, it turned out to be the greatest positive publicity that he had ever gotten. Nationally and internationally, people were talking about the man who smartly outwon his evil relatives and helped the FBI and two national police to solve cases that had been open for ages. Sales in Paragon Heights and all their subsidiaries skyrocketed and their shares grew so fast that Paragon Heights' worth went from five trillion dollars to forty-eight trillion dollars in no time, with more potential. Paragon Heights became the Holy Grail of business in California and all over the world. They became the first conglomerate on permanent contract slots for the UN and many international organisations. Jason’s fame as a capable, family-minded, CEO grew with his sophisticated wife, Millice
Sonia opened her eyes and looked at him “A silly whim that I regret a lot now. I was to select a new face. Then I suddenly showed the doctor Millicent face on the phone that I wanted that. At that moment, it was to get back at her for having what I would never have - Jason, I mean. But eventually, I realise that in a silly way of mine, I was probably hoping that some of her goodness will rub off on me. Stupid, isn’t it?” she asked him with a smile, then look away again when his expression didn’t change. “Sorry,” she muttered. “You said she is happy?” he asked suddenly. She looked back at him with a questioning look on her face “With Jason. You are sure that her happiness was not just a show? She wasn’t just acting?” Sonia scoffed “Acting? She would be an idiot not to jump excitedly anytime she remembers that he belongs to her” She saw the look on his face and quickly said “Oh, I am sorry. I mean. She is very happy. She loves him. Any idiot could see that. Even when I was trying to c
Just as Millicent was settling down in her newly decorated office befitting a chairwoman; a woman who looked just like Millicent, until closely scrutinised, laughed out loud in a penthouse in Montreau. Bastion Alverro, current Capomandamento of the Alverro family gave her an askance look before asking “What is so funny in what I just said?” The woman continued laughing while trying so hard to curb her mirth “I…I am so sorry. I just couldn’t help it. Who would have thought that a powerful man like you would be a child at heart? I mean, who else would chase after someone this hard and for this long because of a silly dream?” she laughed again. Bastion looked at her again and said slowly “Something is different. Your face, that laugh. It is different” he said thoughtfully. “Oh, thank God. Finally, somebody with half a brain. I mean, I am sorry I am not trying to tell you that you have only half a brain. I am just…I was trying to tell those morons, who grabbed me that I am not that st
The drama of the morning only seemed to increase as Jasmine burst into their room, just as Millicent finished dressing. She had been distracted by Jason and dressing up had eventually taken more than an hour. Sending up a prayer to the heavens that she was fully clad, she turned towards the girl and smiled “Hey, beautiful. What’s up? What is with the rush?” “Grandpa is here,” Jasmine said excitedly. “He brought a woman with him” “Brought a…Heinrich is here?” Millicent asked in surprise. “Yes, he is. He wants to see Daddy and Isabel was acting weird” Jasmine said thoughtfully. “Oh yes, weird is the least of it,” Millicent thought anxiously. Then to Jasmine, she said “Go and tell Heinrich that we will be there soon” Jasmine skipped out of the room, her school tie swinging like a pendulum on her neck. Millicent turned to face Jason as he came out of the bathroom. He looked toward the door and asked “Was that Jas?” “Oh, it certainly was. And…well, you have a visitor” Millicent sai
“You were tossing and turning all night” Jason said to Millicent as she opened her eyes the following morning. He had been watching her for a while. “Uh? Oh, is that so?” Millicent said as she raised her head to accept Jason’s kiss “Hmm, this is surely the best way to wake up” she said as she held him tightly to herself and deepened the kiss. They were both breathing hard when they separated. Jason flopped back on his back, with his hand gently playing with Millicent’s hardened nipples. “Now, that is the best way to wake up,” he said with a chuckle. “No complaints from here,” Millicent said with a smile, then she stood up. Jason turned towards her direction and asked “Now, will you tell me what is wrong? You only toss and turn like that when you have something weighing on your mind. Is this about what I told you? About Silas?” Millicent’s eyes widened as she said “What? No, no. That is not... I mean, yes, what happened to your brother is… well, totally surprising. But I know you
“What?! Since when?” Mia’s shock-laced question resounded throughout her office floor. She looked aside to see some of the employees passing and they paused to look at her. She quickly waved at them with a smile that all was fine and hurriedly went to her door to close it. She turned back, put her phone on speaker and dropped it on her table before she said “Silas Benjamin Rouarke, what the hell are you talking about?” “Wow, that judgy tone of yours is really helpful right now, sister” Silas’s voice resounded in her spacious, elegantly furnished office. Mia raked her hand through her hair, then turned back to say “Oh, helpful? You want help? You had better hope that the host of heavens come down to help you when mom hears about this…this madness of yours!” she snapped at him. “You know what? I really do not have time for this. I must have been mistaken when I thought that I will get a little support at least from you before I talk to Jason and Mom. Guess not. Thanks for nothing” “
“That was not how I expected that brunch to go” Jason said as they got back home that day. “Yeah, you and I both” Millicent said as she went straight to the fridge to take bottled water. “You want some?” she asked Jason but he merely shook his head before he flopped onto the bed. “Poor Simon. He was beside himself with worry and guilt that he should have noticed that she was not herself” Millicent shook her head as she went to sit by him. “I am not sure he could have known when a strong-willed woman like Andrea was determined to hide something like that from him. You should have seen the look on her face before she left that restroom though. She was terrified yet showed a brave face” Jason laid his hand on Millicent’s belly as he said “I am sure they will figure out the best way to go about this and we will be there to help them with whatever they need as well” Then he sighed before saying “Does it make me a terrible person that I am glad that we do not have to worry about such a
The Monroes had a celebratory brunch with Heinrich, the deadly duo, and Anastasia the following day. Heinrich invited them to his home to celebrate his clean bill of health and the promotions. The doctor informed him the day before that the toxins in his system had been finally gotten rid of. Also, the neurotoxicity potency had been curbed to a minimal level. Though he still had to take medication for the rest of his life, new research funded by Jason was already underway on how to completely cure neurotoxicity. So they were all optimistic that he would be totally fine and free of medications soon. They all arrived for the brunch in high spirits. Everyone was still happy about the turn of events in the company. The deadly duo and Anastasia marvelled at the magnificence of Heinrich’s home. Then they all settled down to the magnificence spread provided by Heinrich’s cook and his assistants. Mouthwatering biscuits and gravy complimented the no yeast, French toast bagels so well, yet the
