Millicent couldn’t sleep that night. She tossed and turned in bed as the thoughts on her mind gave her no respite. She finally left the bed and went to sit in the adjoining living room so that she wouldn’t wake Jason. The thought of her pregnancy was the last thing on her mind and was not the reason why sleep had eluded her. It was about the scandal and the fact that things were getting more and more ugly. There were already rumours on the internet that Jason might have something to do with the multimillionaire farmer suddenly committing suicide after he had a lawsuit with Jason. Though there weren’t many talks about that yet, Millicent knew that it was just a matter of time before more fuel will be added to that fire. The major bone of contention at the moment was the issue of the affair. People were already reposting the pictures of Jason and Victoria’s kiss at the hospital. The picture of Jason and Victoria’s compromising posture in front of the bar was also going about again.
Jason's day was brightened by the news that his lawyers gave to him. The state investigation into Paragon Height's operation proved that there was no issue with their waste disposing system. Sebastian's fishes, who died were as a result of the water in the ponds being poisoned. No culprit had been found for that. And the man who was in the best position to give answers to that was now dead with a suicide note stating that he was sorry for his wrongdoings."That means that the lawsuit has been officially dropped against us, yeah?" Jason asked James Reed, just to be certain."Yes, sir," James said with a beaming smile. "The state would have demanded that he paid a compensation fee to you for defamation if he is still alive. Though you can still choose to sue his business, sir" "And cause his widow more grief?" Jason asked with distaste in his mouth "No way am I doing that. What matters is that we are in the clear now. I am not going to add to anybody's pain" he said.James Reed smiled
"What trip?!" Jason thundered. "I…I have no idea, sir. I thought she told you, sir. She only informed me that she would be back soon, sir. I am sure that she must have left a message for you or something, sir" Isabella said as she wrung her hands and looked away from the anger on her boss's face. "Or something" Jason muttered as the call went straight to voicemail this time. He looked back at Isabella's contrite look and said "I am sorry for yelling at you, Isabel. You are right. It must have been so urgent. She would have left me a message. Let me just check" he said as he headed upstairs. Jason was not really himself by the time he got to their room. He had no idea why she would take a trip without informing him. Had she deceived him when she said that she was still feeling weak? That was the only explanation he could come up with. After all, Isabella had said that she left almost as soon as he left for the office. "Why, Mil?" Why did you lie to me?" he wondered as he scanned th
“How can you not tell me?!” Groggy and still half-asleep, Jason blinked up at the overhead light he had left on as if that would help him make a better sense of what he was hearing. “Uhn?” he said incoherently. “Are you sleep-picking my call, Jason Monroe?” the voice rang clearly in his ears. Jason’s eyes flew open. This time around, he was sure of who it was. Only one person would call him like that. And that tone? She was pissed “Hello, mom""Hello, Mom.Thank God you remember me at least. You sure do not treat me like family!” Celia Kovarick said over the phone. “What do you…?” “Why else would I be the last to hear about this? At the Green Thumbs Club for that matter! Can you imagine how foolish I looked when Paloma Rickson bared her teeth in that uncomfortable way she called a smile and said “Hmm, what a relief that your son is not one of those rich CEOs who had lost their conscience after all. We are trying to save the planet, you know. It wouldn’t do to have someone like you
Jason had no idea why he was extra emotional as he watched his kids leave with Celia. Maybe because they had no idea that their “vacation” with their grandma was unlike any other that had been made without thinking of what being in the middle of a scandal would do to them. Whoever was behind this had better wish that Jason didn’t lay his hands on them, because their punishment was going to be slow and painful. Jason’s thoughts went to Don again as they had been for days now but he still couldn’t ascertain that he was really behind all this. His men still had no news about Don and Bastion had not got back to him yet. Which means there was no news yet. “No news means good news, right?” Jason thought as he went back into the house. Yet, in this case, he couldn’t really say it with all confidence that this lack of news was a good one. He felt uneasy about not knowing for sure where the next missile might be launched from. At him. His family. Or his company. He updated his people at Celi
Heinrich’s discharge from the hospital was a thing of joy for Jason but he couldn’t postpone his trip to Japan anymore. He was getting worried that Millicent was still not picking up her call yet. It was already over twenty-four hours that she had left. Jason didn’t want to have to bother Heinrich’s delicate health with what was going on in his own life. He had ordered the caretakers with Heinrich to ensure that he did not set his eyes on any newspaper or broadcast that had to do with the scandals. Though Heinrich was fit enough to be discharged, he was still on shaky grounds and Jason was sceptical about just having the caregivers with him at his manor. Especially since the housekeeper had been sent packing after it was discovered that she knew about the fact that the gardener helped to conceal Aria's presence in the manor without saying anything. He would have preferred to have someone else there with th caregivers to handle things and take care of Heinrich as a family would. He wa
Jason arrived in Japan late that afternoon. The worry he had tried to keep in check had eventually metamorphosed into anger. He was boiling with it when he landed in Tokyo, Japan. The first thing he did after he told the pilot to be on standby was to try Millicent’s number again. Still going straight to voicemail. Why would she keep on ignoring his call? He wondered. Jason was starting to believe that he had made a very big mistake by giving her the twenty-four hours she had asked for. If he had immediately come to Tokyo when he found that note, or at least sent the Deadly Duo after her, then he would already have her home by now. “Not telling me that you are pregnant and now this?! Taking off without any protection in the midst of everything? Oh, you went too far, Mils” Jason thought. And he intended to tell her just that. He just needed to find her first. When his car came around, he dismissed the driver assigned to him and took over the wheels of the electric blue Toyota GR Supr
Millicent was far from fine. She gingerly opened her eyes and shut it tightly as that singular act seemed to set off an army of little people doing acrobatic in her head. Her head was pounding with excruciating pain. "What happened to me?" her groggy mind tried to compute as she slowly opened her eyes again. She blinked up painfully at the patterned pop ceiling in confusion. Something was not right. She instantly remember why. The meeting! She was supposed to be meeting up with Victoria, not sleeping in her hotel room.Hoping she was not late yet, she intended to get off the bed immediately. She yelped as biting pain and restraint held her back. But her yelp only came out as a muffled sound.Millicent's eyes widened as her brain finally seemed to catch up with the sensation in her body. She turned her head to see what had held her back. And she screamed again. Yeah, still only a muffled sound.Millicent was tied spread-eagled on her bed and her mouth was duck-taped too. Since her at
