Khan Maal’s call jolted Jason out of his thoughts, where he sat at his wife’s bedside, watching the rise and fall of her chest as she breathed in and out. On her own. If a gaze intensity could wake someone, Millicent would be up and about at that moment.

He had been assured by the doctor that she would be fine. The cut on her chest was not a stab as Jason had feared. It was more like a nick that happened when whoever perpetrated the acts cut through her top down to the navel with a sharp object. The doctor assured him that the baby was fine as well.

The doctor’s major concern was just that there was trauma to her head because she had been hit too many times on the head and that could lead to neurological problems. “Let’s just hope that the complications are mild, sir” the doctor had said sympathetically. Then he added “According to her vitals, she should be awake soon” he had said before he left Jason with her in the room.

That had been three hours ago ad Jason had not been able to

The Deadly Duo got to the hospital around 4 am in the night. Jason was seated, wide-eyed beside Millicent when they arrived. He explained the stats to them. They were also amazed that Khan Maal had called him.“Do you really think he might be so stupid that he would call you even after doing this?” Simon asked.“Well, psychos have been known to do a lot of things and this is something that a psycho would do. So, yeah, he could make the call despite knowing the consequence. It could be to gloat or just to show that he has the upper hand. The question is, why would he even do this? Your wife doesn’t strike me like someone who goes about making vindictive enemies” Andrea said, with her eyes on Millicent. “Are you sure she didn’t remember what got her here?” “Positive. She vaguely remembers every other thing. But I don’t think she remembers even getting back to the hotel not to talk of what happened in there. That part is blank for her. I can’t force her to remember, you know. She keeps

Anastasia was in a panic as she stared at her shredding machine. The folder, of the oil company bid exclusively meant for a few high-profile companies in California, was lying open on her table while the documents she had been working on; which she was supposed to submit that morning; had turned into nothing but tiny pieces of paper shredded by the shredding machine.Anastasia couldn't believe her eyes as she looked at the disaster around her. "How had this happened?" she wondered aloud in her office. There was no one around to give her a response since the other staff had not resumed yet. A call from Jason had woken her up from where she had slept on the cold floor in her sitting room. It took her a while to get her bearing before she realised that her phone was ringing from behind the couch. Jason seemed to be in a hurry as he quickly explained to her that he wouldn't be back in time to attend the bidding meeting and neither would Millicent. He had informed her to make sure she ma

"You've got this, Ana. I mean you are so efficient that you put me to shame at times. Who else could pull that off despite the time limit? And look, we still have almost forty-five minutes to go" Phils said as he checked his Rolex watch while practically running out of the company to catch up with Anastasia, as she hurried towards her car. He was dressed in his typical Ken style. Lime colour, pants and suit jacket, flowery-patterned shirt and jade-coloured shoes."Well, tell me that after I have finally bagged this for the company," Anastasia said as she unlocked her car. Her cream-coloured suit and skirt with simple yet expensive, black, shoes exuded confidence and understated class. She tossed the key at Phil's "Please, drive. I need to still go through my keynotes" Anastasia said as she got into the passenger seat.Phils smiled and said "You are the best, Ana. If I was wired that way, I could kiss you right now. Then I will ask you to marry me. That way, I get to sit on the couch fo

“It was not me” “What?!” Jason was amazed by what Bastion was telling him. After telling Bastion about the post, Jason turned back and went to the hospital. He had barely entered with Simon when Bastion called him. He informed Bastion that he was at the hospital already and Bastion told him that he would meet him there. He was already coming to terms with the fact that Bastion did what he did to Khan Maal because of the message he sent to him, but Bastion’s statement put things on a different level. After dismissing Simon, Jason didn’t want to have to go far from Millicent in case he was needed, so he told Bastion to come into the private family waiting room he was assigned. She was sleeping at the moment but he didn’t want to take any chances. Bastion looked at the astonishment on his face and smiled “Oh, I see that you have already concluded that I did it. Well, thanks for the vote of confidence but it was not me. I wouldn’t have bothered to post such silliness. I am not into ex

Bastion Alverro, Capomandamento of the Alverro mafia family walked in a clipped pace towards his awaiting car. His consigliere and right-hand man, Alejandro Santos, threw the cigarette he was puffing aside and he opened the door for him. Then he saw the look on Bastion’s face. “What is wrong, boss?” he asked instantly as he came to meet Bastion halfway. “What?” Bastion said, then he looked towards the hospital, then back at Alejandro. “We are done here,” he said. “Let’s bring the good news to Padre,” he said as he entered the car. “Oookay” Alejandro said, unconvinced but he dared not question the most powerful man in Italy, even if he was also his friend, so he quickly entered the car and he reached for the start button. “I saw her” Bastion’s distant tone stopped him. Alejandro quickly turned back and looked at his boss. “Who is…?” A quelling look from Bastion stopped his question and his eyes widened as he realised the only person that could get his boss in such a mood. Anastasia rushed into the building as Phils found a place to park. She checked her watch and smiled as she saw that she still had five more minutes before the bid session started. She was trying to pull out her folder from her bag and was not really looking at where she was going. She collided hard with someone and her bag went flying. The folder with the monogrammed initials of Paragon Height fell out of her bag. Embarrassed about her uncharacteristic clumsiness, Anastasia quickly bent down as she uttered hurried apologies to the man, she had collided with. He beat her to the folder though. He picked it up and handed it to her. “You need to be more careful, lady,” the middle-aged man said as he handed her the folder. Anastasia hastily thanked him as she caught a glance of the time, she was cutting it close now. She apologised for bumping into him, once again before she rushed off. What she didn’t really register at that moment because of her anxiety was that the man looked a bit f

Millicent was still good confused with most things and she still couldn’t remember what had happened in the suite that day. But the doctor had signed her off on a clean bill of health so Jason flew her back to Montreau. He was happy that the kids were not at home to witness it when she looked at the surrounding in confusion before she finally realised where she was. She nodded at him, with a small smile as she said with slight uncertainty.“We are at home” Jason hated the fact that she was filled with doubt whenever she wanted to make a statement. It was as if she couldn’t trust herself to be sure about anything. Jason wished he could lay his hands on Don at that moment. The bastard had turned his vibrant, self-assured wife into a shadow of herself. She was resting in the bedroom when he gathered the staff together and he informed them that Madam was a little “tired” from an incident that happened during her trip. “All I need from you all is for you not to do anything that could af

Jason had to call his personal doctor to check on Millicent even after she calmed down. Liam and the staff didn’t find any intruders on the property. Nobody had seen anyone enter or leave the room long after Jason had left it. Not even Liam had seen anybody since he just got out of the shower when he heard the scream. “Mrs Monroe is doing fine physically. Just as the other doctor had said, she is fit enough to be discharged. The only thing she needs right now is enough rest and a serene environment. She doesn’t need anything that could stimulate her negatively or affect her mental health. If that could be taken care of; I am sure her momentary confusion will be taken care of in no time and she will be back to her normal self” the doctor said before he left. Jason immediately called Heinrich to ask about his health. He informed the older man that he would be over at his place to see him soon, and then he informed him that he would like for Isabella and Bo to come back now since they

Nationally and internationally, people were talking about the man who smartly outwon his evil relatives and helped the FBI and two national police to solve cases that had been open for ages. Paragon Heights became the Holy Grail of business in California and all over the world. They became the first conglomerate on permanent contract slots for the UN and many international organisations. But eventually, I realise that in a silly way of mine, I was probably hoping that some of her goodness will rub off on me. Stupid, isn’t it?” she asked him with a smile, then look away again when his expression didn’t change. “Sorry,” she muttered. “You said she is happy?” he asked suddenly. She looked back at him with a questioning look on her face “With Jason. You are sure that her happiness was not just a show? She wasn’t just acting?” Sonia scoffed “Acting? She would be an idiot not to jump excitedly anytime she remembers that he belongs to her” She saw the look on his face and quickly said “Oh, I am sorry. I mean. She is very happy. She loves him. Just as Millicent was settling down in her newly decorated office befitting a chairwoman; a woman who looked just like Millicent, until closely scrutinised, laughed out loud in a penthouse in Montreau. Bastion Alverro, current Capomandamento of the Alverro family gave her an askance look before asking “What is so funny in what I just said?” The woman continued laughing while trying so hard to curb her mirth “I…I am so sorry. I just couldn’t help it. Who would have thought that a powerful man like you would be a child at heart? I mean, who else would chase after someone this hard and for this long because of a silly dream?” she laughed again. Bastion looked at her again and said slowly “Something is different. Your face, that laugh. It is different” he said thoughtfully. “Oh, thank God. Finally, somebody with half a brain. I mean, I am sorry I am not trying to tell you that you have only half a brain. The drama of the morning only seemed to increase as Jasmine burst into their room, just as Millicent finished dressing. He wants to see Daddy and Isabel was acting weird” Jasmine said thoughtfully. “Oh yes, weird is the least of it,” Millicent thought anxiously. Then to Jasmine, she said “Go and tell Heinrich that we will be there soon” Jasmine skipped out of the room, her school tie swinging like a pendulum on her neck. Millicent turned to face Jason as he came out of the bathroom. He looked toward the door and asked “Was that Jas?” “Oh, it certainly was. And…well, you have a visitor” Millicent sai

“You were tossing and turning all night” Jason said to Millicent as she opened her eyes the following morning. He had been watching her for a while. “Uh? Oh, is that so?” Millicent said as she raised her head to accept Jason’s kiss “Hmm, this is surely the best way to wake up” she said as she held him tightly to herself and deepened the kiss. They were both breathing hard when they separated. Jason flopped back on his back, with his hand gently playing with Millicent’s hardened nipples. “Now, that is the best way to wake up,” he said with a chuckle. “No complaints from here,” Millicent said with a smile, then she stood up. Jason turned towards her direction and asked “Now, will you tell me what is wrong? You only toss and turn like that when you have something weighing on your mind. Is this about what I told you? About Silas?” Millicent’s eyes widened as she said “What? No, no. That is not... I mean, yes, what happened to your brother is… well, totally surprising. But I know you

“What?! Since when?” Mia’s shock-laced question resounded throughout her office floor. She looked aside to see some of the employees passing and they paused to look at her. She quickly waved at them with a smile that all was fine and hurriedly went to her door to close it. She turned back, put her phone on speaker and dropped it on her table before she said “Silas Benjamin Rouarke, what the hell are you talking about?” “Wow, that judgy tone of yours is really helpful right now, sister” Silas’s voice resounded in her spacious, elegantly furnished office. Mia raked her hand through her hair, then turned back to say “Oh, helpful? You want help? You had better hope that the host of heavens come down to help you when mom hears about this…this madness of yours!” she snapped at him. “You know what? I really do not have time for this. I must have been mistaken when I thought that I will get a little support at least from you before I talk to Jason and Mom. Guess not. Thanks for nothing” “

“That was not how I expected that brunch to go” Jason said as they got back home that day. “Yeah, you and I both” Millicent said as she went straight to the fridge to take bottled water. “You want some?” she asked Jason but he merely shook his head before he flopped onto the bed. “Poor Simon. He was beside himself with worry and guilt that he should have noticed that she was not herself” Millicent shook her head as she went to sit by him. “I am not sure he could have known when a strong-willed woman like Andrea was determined to hide something like that from him. You should have seen the look on her face before she left that restroom though. She was terrified yet showed a brave face” Jason laid his hand on Millicent’s belly as he said “I am sure they will figure out the best way to go about this and we will be there to help them with whatever they need as well” Then he sighed before saying “Does it make me a terrible person that I am glad that we do not have to worry about such a
