Chapter 9

Adam quite enjoyed the long journey to the gray valley. The beautiful landscape makes him often chuckle in awe. Not to mention the gallantry of the horse that went as fast as lightning; for the first time, he felt a little happy to be in Greash.

Adam's ears picked up the sound of a stream as it passed near a forest with trees with violet leaves.

"Hey, I think it's good if we stop for a moment," Adam pulled the wheel around the horse's neck, and the black horse immediately stopped. "We've been traveling for almost three hours, sitting by the river and enjoying the fruit there must be very pleasant."

As if understanding, the horse neighed and immediately sped off into the forest. The forest they entered illustrated how the wizarding world forest differed from the forests Adam had seen before. This beautiful forest has many colorful flowers, and the trees look unique.

The plants were colorful and beautiful, and some fairies seemed to get close to Adam. Their bodies are small with beautiful wings, but their faces are so strange, with big green eyes and small mouths with horns on their foreheads.

"I didn't expect that your faces looked like aliens; I thought you were beautiful. The films I have seen when I was child so far have lied to me,” said Adam.

The sound of the river flowing could be heard getting closer, and the image of having to drink fresh water immediately settled in Adam's mind. However, what happened next he did not expect, the horse suddenly fell.

“AKH!”

Adam's body was thrown forward and rolled over; several masked men with swords were seen standing near the horse and him.

Adam immediately got up and said, “Who are you? What do you want?”

The horse neighed slowly, and when Adam turned his head, the person near the horse was seen tying the horse's legs with the help of the fairies who had accompanied Adam.

Adam didn't say much; he took out his magic wand and pointed it at the people. Instantly, they were all blown away. From behind, those holding swords began to swing them at Adam.

Reflexively, Adam swung his hand to the side so his body flew up. Adam spun his hands around, taking in the air around him and thrusting swiftly toward the men gathered below him.

The men with long swords joined the others, flying in all directions.

Adam calmly dismounted again and untied the black horse's legs.

"Are you okay, buddy?" Adam stroked the horse's head which seemed to give a cynical look at the people wincing in pain near them.

"What do you want?" Adam asked; he stared at those still in pain on the ground. Adam flicked his hand, and instantly, everyone stood up and approached him.

Adam forcibly removed the mask covering the face of one of the 15 people. You can see a young man his age glaring viciously at Adam with the tip of his temple injured.

“What's your problem with me? Why did you attack me?"

"Don't play dumb! You are Alatar's errand! I knew you were after us!”

One of those at the back looked down to pick up a lying sword; Adam, who saw it as fast as lightning, stomped his foot forward and made the man push by a rising mound of earth.

Suddenly, everyone before Adam stepped back, including the man who was talking to her, the face that was ruthlessly turned quite frightened.

“You should know, I just want to go to the river. I have no business with any of you. What's the benefits for me targeting y’all?”

"Of course, you have business with us. What sinister plan are you developing? The bastard magic council! Haven't you kidnapped enough of our wives and children?! Do you think we're afraid of you? Look, you are alone, and we are many! We'll skin you easily, loser!”

"Go ahead if you want to lose a member of your body like Raymond, who lost an eye. You must know Raymond, right?"

The green-eyed man lowered his gaze while clenching his fists. Adam's answer made her shrink and angrier at the same time.

“Listen to me; I have my own business. I don't get involved in anything all of you fuss over, so stop bothering me. Your swords and magic will not affect me; I don't want to kill anyone. Okay? Go; I will not report this incident to Alatar.”

Adam passed before the man towards the black horse that had bent its body for Adam. Adam discouraged his intention to go to the existing river; he immediately continued his journey and left the fifteen people who were still silent when he rode his horse.

**

Four hours passed, and Adam finally arrived at the last point leading to the gray valley. The sky was already turning orange when he arrived at the forest, fenced off by tall black logs and a gate of bones.

This place was so lonely; there wasn't even a sign of living creatures like fairies. Also, it looks like the tip of one side of Greash.

"Okay, what's next?"

Adam dismounted from his horse and walked towards the gate; when he was about to touch it, suddenly, a terrible groan was heard that was so strong.

The ground trembled, and Adam began to be wary of looking around; he had already prepared his magic wand in case of an attack.

The sound of horses hooves getting closer and closer; from inside the gate, three pairs of lights could be seen approaching, breaking through the thick fog that covered the inside of the forest. Three big centaurs with long horns and fangs appeared to stare viciously at Adam.

"What do you want here?" asked one of the Centaurs.

The three centaurs carried a long stick with a very sharp tip. Adam tried to stay calm; he always applied his poker face skills.

"I came to meet the lords of each element; Alatar asked me to meet them."

The three giant centaurs slowly backed away; Adam was quite relieved because, from what was happening, it could be seen that the three centaurs might soon open the gate.

However, all was different from what Adam had in mind. The centaur, who had been talking all this time, suddenly drew his long spear towards Adam quickly. Just before the spear hit Adam's chest, he managed to stop it by blocking it with air.

A strong wind hit the faces of the three centaurs; the staff was pulled back. A moment later, the centaurs again approached the fence and said, "Welcome to the gray valley."

A dark aura enveloped Adam's steps as soon as the gate opened. The atmosphere inside the forest was completely different. Behind the thick fog, you can see dead trees.

Three centaurs raised their three staffs and then joined the ends of the sticks together. Their horns released a red glow; they slowly lowered their teams, and a large portal-like light appeared.

"Please come in; the four magic elemental retainers are inside."

Adam tugged at his horse and said, "Thank you."

As soon as Adam stepped, the portal was immediately closed. Heavy rain with flashes of lightning greeted Adam's arrival. With no shelter, Adam immediately got on his horse and rode off to find a large tree.

“Ah, my eyes sting! This rainwater feels different,” he complained; Adam's vision was getting blurry, and he could barely see due to the heavy rain.

Amid his efforts to continue looking for shelter, Adam instead received an attack from a woman with long black hair who appeared suddenly in front of Adam.

Without saying a word, the woman took lightning and fire from her hands, immediately making Adam fall and pass out.

The woman smiled cynically, then raised her hand towards the sky, and the rain stopped.

"You're weak," she said; she pulled Adam's body with her strength and put him on a black horse whose eyes were now turning white.

The woman in the dark blue dress changed her form into that of a phoenix and flew freely in the sky. The flapping of its wings took out grains of fire that fell to the ground, which then became a guide for the horse, which began to move forward carrying Adam's body.
