THE GRIM REAPER SYSTEM

I opened my eyes as I saw my grandparents beside me. I looked at their faces and I noticed something was wrong. " what is it?" I said gently looking at their faces.

" Nothing Max," Xavier said gently holding my two hands. "Nothing? and why do I feel numb? I can't move my body." I said biting my lower lips.

" Am I paralyzed?" I asked with disbelief in my voice.

I looked at my grandmother who was sobbing already. She walked outside to get the doctor. " I can't be. I can't be paralyzed." I said trying to lift myself from the bed but I couldn't.

" Stay still, Max. everything will be okay." Xavier's voice trying to calm me down. " Everything will be okay? Those miscreants have me crippled and you are telling me, everything will be fine?" I said in annoyance. I began to make noise and the doctors rushed inside and had me injected. I felt drowsy and I slept off.

I woke up and I looked at the white ceiling right in front of me. The thought of me not being able to move my body flushed back into my system. I closed my eyes and water came out of them. " Will I ever be able to avenge my parent's death? what will become of my dreams?" I could barely even move a muscle. The door was pushed back and the doctor walked right in with my grandparents " Oh Max! You are awake. How are you feeling now? " he asked checking my vitals.

I said nothing and merely looked at my grandparents. I was going to be a burden to them again.

" Why is he not saying anything?" Xavier asked looking at the doctor. " I guess he is still in shock at what has happened." the doctor replied

I watched as they both talked and walked out of the hospital. My kind replayed the past event and I wished I had never entered the school or gained a scholarship. I remembered seeing a message right before I died. " Was that even real? Am I dead?" I WAS DEAD! " I opened my eyes in awareness.

Suddenly a system appeared before me.

I looked at the Encrypted message before and I was silent. " Is this even real?" I asked aloud making the other patients look at me. " Mum, who is he talking to?" one sick child pointed at me. I have heard the doctor telling his mother he was going to be dead soon. The mother had cried her eyes out and there was nothing she could do about it other than spend quality time with her son. " Don't mind him, he is going nut," she replied bringing his fingers down.

" Yes, I am going nut. " I said to myself and smiled at the boy making him hide behind his mother.

I looked at my front and another message displayed

[ BALANCE: $0. HOST: AS POOR AS A CHURCH RAT]

[ BODY ; PARALYSED ]

[ SYSTEM TASK: ESCORT A DEMON SOUL TO THE ABYSS AND UNLOCK $3,000,000,000 AS A REWARD PRIZE.]

[ SYSTEM; YOU HAVE ONLY 30 MINUTES TO DETERMINE YOUR FATE OR REMAIN CRIPPLED FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.]

I looked at the message and the countdown began. I laughed hysterically as I kept looking at the message. The task was numb and lame. Escort a soul? whose soul? my soul?" I said again laughing but then I remembered what the doctor had said about the dying child beside me. " Is the child having a demon soul? how do I even know?" I asked myself and scratched my head.

" Well, I have nothing to lose." I accepted the task and my system shut down. I slowly opened my eyes and I found myself in another world. A woman with silk hair woke up to me.

" You are now a grim reaper and your body will inhabit a host which would give you strength and power to fight and capture any demon. They are to be cast down to the abyss. There are rules guiding your daily work and also achievement as you have been told but make sure your powers are undetected by humans. and also you must never use your powers against them. The da you do."

I quickly looked at the woman " What happens the day I do? " I asked looking at her. " You become crippled," she replied and I woke up to the real world. I heard the woman shriek and I wondered what was happening. I looked at myself and noticed I had been lifted off the bed. My hair immediately changed its color and became just like the woman I had seen. I landed back on the bed and it broke. " What? Have I become a grim reaper? is this happening to me?" I laughed again thinking it was all a joke.

[ SYSTEM: Your time starts now. YOU HAVE JUST 2 DAYS TO FINISH YOUR TASK]

The system said and I wondered where the voices were coming from.

suddenly, I heard a sinister laugh and I saw a fire smoke entering the ward. " What is this?" I said gently getting up from my bed, waking towards the smoke but it disappeared. " Where did it go?" I asked looking around.

I looked at the woman and her child and I noticed she was strangling her son. " What are you doing?" I shouted out calling for help but no one was nearby. The door burst open and I saw some men in black Suits. They moved fast and they had their faces covered. I watched how they attacked the woman and I wondered how the woman gained her ability within just a few minutes. " Stop! She is his mother. I don't know what happened but I think she is possessed by something." I said and the men stopped and looked at me.

" What? Can he see us? " one of them asked

" I think he saw the fire demon too?" I heard a female voice and I looked at them " Who are you?"

" Hey kiddo, I think you have a lot of questions to answer but right now we have a job to do."

" I need to send that demon back to the abyss. I saw it first and it is mine." I said trying to get up from my bed. The men went after the demon and the fight was severe.

" This is a level 3 demon!" one of the men in the suit said as they joined forces to attack it but it was too strong for them. I quickly joined hands with them and I single-handedly had it subdued. They looked at me " Who are you?"

" I am Max," I replied

" You have a lot of explanation to do but right now you need to guide the demon to the abyss." One of the men said back at me. judging from the way he had spoken, I think he was the leader.

" Just take his hand and place them gently on the chest with yours." I was about to do that when the demon woke up and flew out through the window. The men went after it while and I wondered what was going on.

" Are they shooting a movie scene?" I laughed seeing what happened within just a few minutes. Then I remembered what the woman had told me. " You are going to become a cripple if you fail to deliver your first demon before the second day ends"

The door was pushed back and the doctor entered the room. " Oh my God! what happened here Mr Max?" but before he could finish his words I jumped up and flew out through the broken window in search of the spirit. The thought of being a cripple my whole life frightened the hell out of me. " where is it?" I asked myself as I raced through the street with my hospital clothes on.

" Take the left turn!" I heard a sharp voice and I turn the turning by my left.

I was standing face to face with the demon and it snarled at me. it rushed at me and I landed a heavy kick to its jaw sending it back to the floor. I looked at myself and wondered where the adrenaline came from. The demon got up like a Zombie and flew at me. We fought as the ground beneath cracked and the walls caved in. I managed to have it pinned and beaten. " Place your hand on its chest and send it over to us." a voice said in my ears

" To us?" I said gently and did as I was told. I found myself back in another realm and I saw the demon before me " I will find you, Max. This isn't over." it shouted as it was thrown into the bottomless pit.

I opened my eyes and I saw the same man in a black suit before me. " What? Did he just take on a level three demon all by himself?" One of the men opened his mask and I saw it was a she. She walked closer to me and looked me up to down. " This skinny kid! kid, what is your name?" She asked looking at me

" Max," I replied

" Max, we would get in touch with you. we will find you. let's go!" A voice said again and I watched them climb the walls like they were Spiderman and crawl away. " Am I going to be like them?" I looked at the floor and I saw it was cracked and I had wrecked most of the building while trying to catch my first demon.

I knew going back to her hospital was not something I should do. I was about to walk back home when I felt a sharp pain in my head.

[ARGH! ARGH!!]

j shouted falling back to the floor. I looked up and my eyeball changed black.

[SYSTEM ACCOMPLISHED ]

I brought my phone which had a broken screen from the fight I had with the demon and scratched my head. " Jeez, Jonas is going to have my head on a spike for breaking this," I said gently and looked at the message on my phone. It was the talk of the school that I had killed myself in frustration that I wasn't loved back by Flora. " This is bullshit. why would I kill myself?" I shouted in frustration but then something else caught my attention.

"Wow! I am a billionaire!." I shouted out loud trusting my hand into the air. I ran down to the ATM and slot in my card to check my balance and it came out with a balance of $3 Billion

I covered my mouth in awe as I walked back home without any slippers on. " The thought of making Zaco and Flora pay for what they did to me came back to my mind. I was no longer a loser, I wasn't that timid boy anymore. I am now a billionaire and a badass Grim Reaper. a level one at that. I was going to make Zaco and everyone who ever gets in my way pay.

I scratched my head and I knew I had to think of what to tell my grandparents. They were going to freak out if they found out that I was now walking. I thought of what to do or even say but nothing was coming into this tiny head of mine. suddenly, my phone rang. I looked at the broken screen of my phone and I saw my grandfather's call. I picked it up and his voice was loud enough to be heard by the nearest person beside me " Is it true? can you walk now?" He asked eager to hear my response

I looked at the front gate of my house and wondered what lie I was going to tell both of them
