Sweats rolled down from the corner of his head as he rode to his workplace as fast as he could.
He could feel his heart beating against his chest as though it were going to burst through because he knew that he was already late.He was late because he had gone to his girlfriend’s house to help her do their dishes. Likewise, he had to wash her clothes and prepare a meal because it was a weekend. But he did not care about all this, he loved her so much, and he could give in anything just to make her comfortable in his life. Besides, she is the only one who has ever accepted him into her life.Right from the day that he was born, he has been ridiculed and despised by everyone around him, and they often saw him as someone who was running crazy because of the torn clothes that he always wore.Lucas Randell drew a really deep breath. He continued riding on his bicycle as fast as he could. An air of relief escaped from his mouth when he saw the company that he worked for as a daily delivery guy just before him.Immediately he got there, he threw his bicycle at the parking lot and began to run into his boss's office, but his boss was already waiting for him at the door. He shot a deadly glare at him, taking every detail of him with disgust written all over his face.“What took you so long, your piglet? Do you expect us to keep on waiting for you?” He spat from his mouth while Lucas bowed his head, refusing to make eye contact with his boss.“I am sorry about that, sir. I had to do a few things at home before coming here.” He apologized, but that apology didn't put off the anger of his boss… but seemed to get him even angrier as his face squeezed into a sneer.“Had to do stuff at home? That's what you always say. Do you think that I care about that? I would have loved to sack your poor butt already, but you know what is still keeping me from doing so? Because whenever I take a look at you, it looks like you are going to starve to death if you don't get this job.” He growled.“But if you don't change from this stupid act of yours. I will have to leave you at the mercy of that starvation.” He returned.“I will do better, sir,” Lucas promised. He got his first order for the day. He had to deliver a box of jewelries to some rich old couples. He got the order wrapped and walked over to his bicycle, but before he got there, he saw two of his colleagues approaching him.He inched closer. “Hey, Julius.” He greeted, but he was practically ignored. A few minutes later, a burst of dark laughter escaped from their lips.“Did he even take his bath this morning because he stinks?” He heard them laughing.“And those shorts of his. He needs to get it washed or changed. Gosh. Never seen a fellow so wretched all my life.” He heard the others saying, but he practically ignored them.He was already used to all that, and it didn't pull a string on him anymore.Lucas got on his bicycle and started the delivery for the day. He got a few tips from the people who looked at him to be wretched.Streams of sweats were already dripping down from his face when he was done for the day. With excitement, he walked over to the office of his boss since it was payday. He split the door open, and he walked into it, staring at his boss for a while.“And what are you doing here again? What do you want?” His boss growled.“Hmm, it's payday.” He informed his boss, with his head bowed in respect.A cracking sound escaped from his drawer as he drew it open and threw some dollar notes to him, which he caught it in the air.Lucas counted the money, but it was just a hundred and fifty dollars instead of two hundred.“But…” he wanted to say it, but his boss would not allow him to spit out a single word from his mouth.“But what? Do you still have the guts to spit out a single word from your mouth? How dare you fool. You should be grateful that I am even paying you. I could have just thrown the money at the poor. Besides, you are all the same” He spat.Lucas knew that there was nothing that he could do now. He could not talk back at his boss because he needed the job, or he would face the sad reality of his Life.He got into his bicycle, but he wasn't heading home. He was heading to a jewelry store to get a gift for his girlfriend Ella. It was her birthday.A smile hovered on his face as he thought about her. She was his renewed hope. The only one that had ever loved him.Memories of the first time that they met flickered through his memories. She was the daughter of lord Lugard, one of the most influential people in the City. And somehow, they got to know each other. It still seemed more like a miracle to him. A poor peasant like himself. And to crown it all, when he thought that her extremely wealthy family was never going to accept him, what did he get? She bought a dizzying suit worth over a thousand dollars, an amount of money that he has never touched all his life and then, she took him to them and introduced him as her boyfriend. He finally got to the store and walked into it. He stared at the range of pieces of jewelry and the price tag for them, most of which were expensive. One caught his eyes, a silver jewelry, glittering like the ray of the moonlight.“Imagine that on Ella's neck.” He whispered to himself as a smile hovered on his lips, but then, he remembered that he did not have enough money to get that.He could not help but caress the show glass.“And what do you think that you are trying to do?” He heard someone calling from behind and when he turned around, he noticed that it was a worker in the store …he saw the badge that was hanging around her neck. She stared at him with disgust from head to toe, and her face vanished into a frown.“Get your hands off that, you moron. Do you realize that even if you are sold off, you will never be able to purchase even the covering of that jewelry that you are caressing?” She fired at him, and he got his hands off from the glass covering as fast as he could.“I'm sorry about that.” He apologized.“And what are you even doing here? Trying to rob us? I think I need to call security.”“No, I am trying to get a gift for my girlfriend.” He tried to say, but even before he could get to finish his statement, a burst of laughter escaped from her mouth.“Are you freaking kidding me right now? And what do you think? That I am some sort of fool that is going to believe that? Do you think that you look like someone that can even call a girl?” She rocked hard with laughter.Lucas could feel his anger pricking, but he pushed it down immediately. There was no need for that and besides, he was already used to this kind of humiliation. The only thing that he had to do now was get the gift that he required and leave that place as soon as he could. He searched around for something that he could afford, and he saw a bracelet with the price tag one hundred and fifty dollars. It was the only thing that he could afford there and even if it meant that he was going to spend all of his money, Ella was it.He took the bracelet and paid for it. He got outside and stared at the bracelet for a while.“I wish that I can get you more, but this is what I can afford. I hope that you are going to like it.” He whispered to himself, with a wide smile. He got on his bicycle and headed over to Ella's Suite. They did not live in the same place. He was a student, and could not afford enough money to get a house for himself, so he had to beg one of his course mates to let him squat in his dormitory for a while. And fortunately for him, he accepted, but he had to do some odd jobs for them. He didn't care though …as long as he was going to have a place to hide his head for a while.Halfway through his journey, he stopped. He had to call Ella first before he stepped into her suite, and from the last time that he checked, she was not a fan of the announced visit. He brought out his little Nokia phone from his pocket and quickly pushed her number into it.For some reason that he could not tell, his heart was beating fast as though it were going to burst through. He waited for a while, but she wasn't picking up the calls. He tried again, and she still wasn't picking up.“What could be wrong?” He thought in his head, perplexed. He did not kno
He stared at the bracelet in his hands as he rode over to the giant hotel as fast as he could. His heart was beating fast, and he was trying as hard as he could to believe that whatever it was that he just heard about Ella, was certainly not true. But when he got to the hotel, he saw her car there and his heart skipped countless beats that he was already gasping for breath. He froze on the spot for a while, and he could not even limp as his brain was still trying hard to process what was going on.“It can't be true that she is cheating with someone else. It has to be that this is a mistake and nothing more.” He thought silently. He was confused now as he did not want to go in there and meet with the sad truth that was going to be more like a shocker to him… draining all the life that he had left in him.But he decided otherwise. If she was cheating on him, it would be better for him to catch her red-handed rather than just assume that she is cheating on him in his head.He proceeded i
Ella walked away from him and walked towards Thompson, who hugged her tightly.Lucas stared at the vacuum that she had created right before him. He could feel his heart beating so hard that the sound of it was rising to his hearing. But he could not let it end just like that. He was tired of being such a coward, constantly trying to back out of a fight because he was poor. He thought that going into a fight was only going to get him into trouble.Likewise, he could feel the Adrenaline gushing into his blood streams so hard and bad that he could hardly breathe. He clutched his hands and his feet made a rumbling sound as he stamped them on the floor while walking towards Ella and Thompson. They stared at him for a while, perplexed about what it was that he was about to do.“Get your hands off, my lady.” He growled at Thompson, pushing him away from Ella just as she shot him a really weird stare.“And what is it that you think you are trying to do?” She asked, with so much hate and disgu
Lucas opened his eyes slowly, and it was more like a sun blister all over his body. A slight groan escaped from his mouth as he clutched his hands to the covering of the soft tissue that seemed to be beneath him.He looked up and noticed a beautiful ceiling above him, and he was confused for a while. He didn't know where he was or even how he got there for a start, but he was here.Likewise, he had to find out where he was as soon as he could, and that might even give him a clue on how he was going to leave that hell of a place. Lucas stared around for a while, with his eyes darting to across the room and focusing on the glittering tiles. Then it struck him, he was in a massive hospital. It had been a long time since he visited a hospital because he didn't have the money to visit one. Talk less of a really large hospital. But there was a considerable question that was lagging at the back of his mind; who brought him to such a large hole of a hospital? He tried hard as he could to rem
Lucas stared at them for a while, still lost in shock. He attempted to come down from the bed and this time, his only option was to run away because this was beginning to turn into a nightmare gradually."Sir, I am sorry but I think that there is a mistake somewhere because this can not be true. Just look at me. I am a nobody and how can I possibly be your grandson? I wish it was true but there is no essence of deceiving myself." Lucas shot the words swiftly out from his mouth, but Lord Randolph's lips only broke into a smile."I know that this would be hard for you to take in all at once so I am going to be patient with you." He mumbled."Just calm down and you are going to realize what I am trying to put across to you." He assured Lucas and he sat back waiting for the explanation that was going to justify this calm."So your father, my son, was the heir of the company. The only heir but that was before his death." He began and his voice broke. It seemed as though this son or Lucas'
"Aren't you going to go into your new Mansion?" His grandfather inquired, with a smile hanging on his face and Lucas smiled back. But in between his smile, there were tears in his eyes. But this time, it was not those sorrowful tears, they were tears of joy. His days of penury was over and he was more like a god heir now. And to crown it all, all these things happened in a blink.Lucas nodded his head as he started walking into that mansion while he continued to stare around for a while. For the first time, he noticed that he was so lost staring at the building that he did not even notice the beautiful environment. The flowers complimented the building, tiled floors, and statues carved from a tree. Fountains littered all around. At some point, it felt as though his heart was going to skip a lot of beats.Lucas spent the night in his Mansion but the next morning, he had to return to school. But now, he noticed that he would have a really tough decision to make. Either to return to hi
Lucas looked up at the list of things that he had to do for the day. First, he had to visit his grandfather's legendary company so that he would be shown around. And get to know it.He could not wait for the thrilling experience. He had always heard about the Belcraft company from people who had gotten the opportunity to go in.And opportunity, it was a whole more like a thousand chains of connection before you could get yourself in there. And as a poor guy that he was or used to be, the only thing that he had gotten to see was just the glimpse of the exteriorBut today, he was not just going to walk in it but as a heirHe got his bath and got into his torn clothes. It was the only thing that his hands could get to since he was yet to buy anything for himself with the money that his grandfather gave to him.And to make things even better for him, his bicycle was returned to him the previous day at his request. He got ready and he walked over to his bicycle, got into it and he began to
Lucas had a small smirk on his face as he folded his hands to his chest and watched the little drama that was currently unfolding. Never in his life did he think that he would be in a position where someone would have his back, and even, fire someone because of him.“Young master, are you okay?” Blake asked, but Lucas held him on his wrist and pulled him to a corner. “Mr. Blake! You can’t let anyone know of my identity! If you keep on calling me young master, people will start to suspect”, Lucas declared defiantly, with Blake lowering his head in respect.“I’m sorry, young master”, Blake said in a voice that sounded like a whisper, while Lucas took in a deep breath and looked up. He had to get used to the fact that he was now the heir to the Belcraft group. It was hard to do that, but he couldn’t wait to witness other things that are yet to unfold.“So, this is the company?” He asked as he looked at the big buildings that were scattered at different corners. At the top of the buil
Before Lucas could make a movement out of the location, a gang of boys had gathered already, surrounding him. The old man couldn't just stop calling him a thief even after he had explained to him that the money belonged to him. However, at some point in time, Lucas couldn't blame them. He had not taken his time to think through his actions. He should have known that it was definitely going to be outrageous for an odd looking man like him to display such huge amount of money, even if he was in disguise. No one but him knew he was in disguise as a poor man after all.Soon enough, it looked to him like the old man had filled the gang in with the wrong details. That explained the disapproving and angry stares they gave to him. It was unfortunate that even as he tried to plead with them so he could tell them the truth from the misconception the old man had, they had began to throw blows at him, kicking and slapping him at the same time.Lucas considered their action to be inconsiderate, i
He was more shocked to see the group of people staring at him, confusion spread out on their faces. There were just three of them. Three women, staring at him. And neither of them was ready to move away from the spot they were standing at. Although he wasn't surprised at how they stared at him. As of that time, he was no longer the rich looking, handsome billionaire. He was now an ugly haggard poor man who was sniffing around the cliff, probably searching for what to eat. After staring at them in silence for quite some time, he decided to make a move as he suddenly remembered what he had thought of doing if things didn't work out fine. As usual, there was always a plan B.Surprisingly, the first step he took made them take another step back. Despite given the distance, he could still see the distrust that equally led to fear on their faces. Of course, he should have expected that. “I won't hurt you please. I just need to ask you a few questions.” He said, taking another step towards
The last action he did was button up the torn trousers he was putting on. Unfortunately for him, he didn't have a mirror where he could look up himself to see how he looked in his disguised form. He had made a mental note to himself before leaving the house that he had to look the poorest ever. After his several attempts to make the people around him believe that Emily was not dead had failed, Lucas took it upon himself to go search for her himself. He knew how hard he had paid people to go in search of her. However, it was heart breaking to say that there was no one who took it in their deep interest to find her because if they did, he was pretty sure that some positive results would have come out. He was presently at one of the abandoned and deserted warehouses he knew about. That was another perfect spot for a billionaire like him to suddenly transform himself into a disgusted poor man which people would want to stay away from. He had chosen the warehouse, far from the mansion so
“He used to be a student at the school.” The words of Mr. Shaw couldn't stop playing in her head. “I was able to go into the city. That was the only place I could think of finding him since no one here knew who he was. And I had to start from where we had found you. When there was nothing positive there, I moved further. Along the line, I was able to find a group of people, young boys especially who had an idea of him. According to the people I found, he used to be a student at one Belmont Academy.” The old man explained to Emily. At first, when he had come into the house with the good news of having found the man in the picture and knowing his location, Emily felt her heart gladden. Even if they were on a maybe part of finding him, she believed a clue was worth something. But as it stood, she had just one question… how would she find him in a big school just as the old man described? From the look of the young man in the picture, he didn't look like one to still be in school. So, wh
It was two days gone in her new place, and Emily still couldn't remember who she was or where she came from. All she had with her was her name which sometimes she questions if it might truly be her name. And also the picture which she had given to Mr. Shaw to help her find the truth behind it. Ever since the date she found the picture, she took it upon herself to search every nook and cranny of the bag said to belong to her, with the intention of finding anything else that could tell her who she truly was. Unfortunately, there was nothing. It was just a bunch of make up kit, the name tag, and the picture. However, what Emily was truly focused on at the moment was finding out who the man in the picture was. She believed that if she found out who he truly was, it could be a lead to her real identity. Now, she was home alone like the previous days. Mrs. Shaw had gone to her place of business, insisting that she had to fully recover before she would start working for her as they had agre
Blake stood to stare at his friend in confusion. He didn't want to believe what he had just heard from him. But then, he was forced to believe him, owning to the seriousness on his face. “I have a lot of questions concerning this if you're actually serious about it.” Blake finally opened up to say. There was a reign of silence as Lucas didn't respond to him. “How did you leave to find Emily? Where did you also go to find her, Lucas?” Blake asked, hoping he would still get a response from him because definitely, he was curious.“When you all were asleep, foolishly believing that she is actually gone for good.” Lucas answered, a sting of betrayal playing in his voice. “Lucas, you're endangering your life.” Blake said, concern glaring in his voice.“I don't care if I had to do that. All I want is to find my woman.” Lucas said forcefully, turning to look back at Blake.“Let me remind you that this supposed woman is dead.” Blake said. “Her body was not found. That doesn't mean that she
“Is he still locked up in his room?” Mr. Belcraft asked Blake the moment he walked in. Blake let out a deep sigh firstly before he could respond.“I'm just coming in. But I bet he would still be locked up in his room.” Blake finally answered. The old man was the next on line to let out a deep sigh. When Blake watched him closely, he could see the wrinkles which had appeared on his face. It was clear to him that the old man was more stressed up than anyone else could be.And truth be told, he just had to be, owning to the fact that he deeply cared about his grandson.“Will you help me go check up on him?” Mr. Belcraft opened up again, pleadingly.“Of course Mr. Belcraft. I would do that.” Blake said, and he nodded his head in approval. Blake then turned in the attempt of doing what he had come to do as well as what he had been pleaded to do. However, just when he was about to take further steps upstairs, leading to Lucas room, he suddenly stopped. He quickly turned back to him. “Mr. B
All through the ride last night, Emily couldn't get her head off the fact that she was about to go start a new life in a village she knew no one or nothing about. Although underneath the scary feeling, she felt thrilled to go start a new life. When she thought deeper about the bold step she had taken towards an unknown destination, she pushed aside the fear that clunged onto her. After all, she couldn't remember who she was. There was a possibility her new journey could make it all happen. The clattering sound she had heard caused her to open her eyes, and sit on the bed. "Oh, God." She yawned deeply. For a minute, she had forgotten that she was now in the home of her saviors, the old woman and her husband. After she had pleaded with her to let her leave with them, the old woman had thought of it wise to inform her husband. Clearly, Emily didn't object to it. All she did was pray inwardly that the old man was going to accept it. And he did. While they took it upon themselves t
She had thought that the smell of drugs, syringe, and possible vomit had only conjured in her dream. However, she was all wrong when she opened up her eyes. Her first sight was the bulb producing light which was on, and the rolling fan. She stayed put for a while as she tried hard to realize where she was. Sadly, the harder she tried, the more pain she felt. The young lady closed her eyes shut again. This was in a bid to calm her hurting head, and also see if she could get anything. When she did it for the longest time she could remember, and nothing happened, she opened back her eyes. It was at that time she used the opportunity to look around where she was. Definitely, she had not been wrong when the smell told her she could be in a hospital. Even if her memory had a bit of lagging behind, she could as well recognize what an hospital looked like. But, she still couldn't think past the question she had. Why was she in a hospital? She thought. Despite the struggles, she finally
